bug in sc_serv: xserve mac os x server
Hi im having hard trouble when configuring shoutcast server in a mac xserve running mac os server x ver10.5.2
i downloaded the server sc_serv_1.9.8_macosx to run the shoutcast server (no aqua interface) but can only work in default mode, i mean the pwd should be kept "changeme" and the port is 8000 (as the file come from you in sc_serv.conf) if i change something there it has no effect on the sc_serv.conf file. i thought it was the text editor, but it is not as long as i can see. so, i cant change any parameters. im tied to that port (8000) and unsecure pwd ("changeme"). Could it be administrator privileges? i guess it is not cause im logged as administrator full access. i changed the pwd and save. i open the file sc_serv.conf and it is really modified, but the broadcaster cant connect. both bradcast and server have the same pwd: "abc" then i change the broadcaster pwd to "changeme" and it begins to broadcast in the act. Broadcaster running on a pc winxp Please give some advice. killabyte |

you must be starting the programs incorrectly.
Double clicking is bad. You need to use the terminal on a mac. Navigate to the directory that the binary is in and type: ./sc_serv config_file_name.conf Unless you specify a config file to use, sc_serv assumes the defaults. That is why changing the password from abc to changeme (the default) works even though you have modified the settings in the config. |

no, a different directory is not required.
I was giving you instructions as to how one would go about doing things on a *nix box. However, with a mac, maybe you need to specify the full path in the command line? |

./sc_serev name_of_config_file.conf
replace the Name_of_config_file.conf with the actual name of the config file you are using. And add the .conf. |

here is the log im running on "/" path for both files (executable and config) 04/14/08@11:28:43> [SHOUTcast] DNAS/MacOS_X v1.9.8 (Feb 28 2007) starting up... <04/14/08@11:28:43> [main] pid: 733 <04/14/08@11:28:43> [main] loaded config from sc_serv3.conf <04/14/08@11:28:43> [main] initializing (usermax:32 portbase:8000)... <04/14/08@11:28:43> [main] No ban file found (sc_serv.ban) <04/14/08@11:28:43> [main] No rip file found (sc_serv.rip) <04/14/08@11:28:43> [main] opening source socket <04/14/08@11:28:43> [main] source thread starting <04/14/08@11:28:43> [main] opening client socket <04/14/08@11:28:43> [source] listening for connection on port 8001 <04/14/08@11:28:43> [main] Client Stream thread [0] starting <04/14/08@11:28:43> [main] client main thread starting <04/14/08@11:28:43> [main] dns thread starting <04/14/08@11:28:43> [source] invalid password from 172.16.41.61 <04/14/08@11:28:43> [source] invalid password from 172.16.41.61 ....... look that it is loading config from sc_serv3.conf portbase 8000, but sc_serv3.conf was changed to port 8002. changes aint taking effect. what im i doing wrong? the executable file sc_serv is a unix executable file (powerpc) does it has to do with my trouble? please advice regards |

No, the fact that it is a linux binary should not make a difference. Mac OS X is only a BSD core running apple's unique gui. In essence, OS X is *nix.
If you open the config3 file are the changes still saved within it? Do you have read privileges to the file, binary, and directory? |

yap, when i open the file it is as i changed before, changes are correctly saved, i have full access to the dir, it is a new machine, so no troubling with it.
look at the log: <04/14/08@11:28:43> [main] loaded config from sc_serv3.conf what would you check in order to find the trouble? i mean it is a simple task, what could it be? |

I dunno. If the changes are getting saved in the sc_serv3.conf file and you are clearly telling sc_serv to load that file on startup ... I'm all out of ideas.
You could go for the overkill approach and chmod 777 the enitre directory, binary, and config file. |

conf] Warning: invalid item on line 2, in sc_serv3.conf [conf] Warning: invalid item on line 3, in sc_serv3.conf [conf] Warning: invalid item on line 4, in sc_serv3.conf [conf] Warning: invalid item on line 6, in sc_serv3.conf [conf] Warning: invalid item on line 9, in sc_serv3.conf ... ... ... line 2 is pwd line. any idea? best killa |

special characters are not allowed; only use a-z and 0-9; no spaces either.

Password Problem
I'm having a similar problem with the password issue. The two passwords in my conf file are identical to what's in my Nicecast external server config yet whenever I connect using anything other than changeme as the password, I get an invalid password error. Here's what the terminal session looks like:
vent log: <06/10/08@20:03:58> [SHOUTcast] DNAS/MacOS_X v1.9.8 (Feb 28 2007) starting up... <06/10/08@20:03:58> [main] pid: 265 <06/10/08@20:03:58> [main] loaded config from /Users/jasonlachapelle/Shoutcast/sc_serv_LOSH.conf <06/10/08@20:03:58> [main] initializing (usermax:32 portbase:8000)... <06/10/08@20:03:58> [main] No ban file found (sc_serv.ban) <06/10/08@20:03:58> [main] No rip file found (sc_serv.rip) <06/10/08@20:03:58> [main] opening source socket <06/10/08@20:03:58> [main] source thread starting <06/10/08@20:03:58> [main] opening client socket <06/10/08@20:03:58> [source] listening for connection on port 8001 <06/10/08@20:03:58> [main] Client Stream thread [0] starting <06/10/08@20:03:58> [main] client main thread starting <06/10/08@20:03:58> [main] dns thread starting <06/10/08@20:04:04> [source] invalid password from 192.168.1.100 <06/10/08@20:05:08> [source] invalid password from 192.168.1.100 <06/10/08@20:05:11> [source] invalid password from 192.168.1.100 <06/10/08@20:05:14> [source] invalid password from 192.168.1.100 <06/10/08@20:05:17> [source] invalid password from 192.168.1.100 <06/10/08@20:05:29> [source] invalid password from 192.168.1.100 <06/10/08@20:05:32> [sleeping] 0 listeners (0 unique) Any ideas? I'm going batty... I also get a message in the terminal that basically says there's an error with every one of my conf file lines but I've had at least one other person try it on their machine and it worked fine. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

I'm going to admit defeat here. Unfortunately, I do not know nicecast well enough to be able to help you.
Check out this thread: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....light=nicecast The link that nick@ss gave mnay be very very helpful to you. |

I do appreciate the help... I started with that other link but I think it's for a version of Mac OSX prior to what I'm running so it doesn't quite work for me all the way.
Again, thanks for the help! |
