Q: How do I use the old WINAMP.Q1 file with 5.51?
Hi, everyone. I just got the newest version of winamp. I was using 5.5 previously and backuped my winamp.q1 file which contains custom eq settings I made. But when I copied the q1 file back to the 5.51 folder later, I found that this file isn't working. Furthermore, there wasn't anything like equalizer file anymore. I really want to use the q1 file, and how do I do that?

I don't understand. In Winamp 5.51 you can still use it. With Winamp closed rename the existing winamp.q1 file that is present in Winamp's root folder to winamp.q1.off, and place yours in the Winamp root folder instead. Then, afterwards, when you select Preset > Load > Preset in the EQ, your saved presets should be listed there. If not, then perhaps your saved file got corrupted somehow? So, if you still cannot access your saved presets, then ZIP it up, attach it to your next post, and I'll temp-disable my winamp.q1 file (which works fine in 5,51) and try yours, to test for corruption.

But I had no WINAMP.Q1 file at the very first time. Shouldn't it be there originally when you installed winamp? I made some test eq settings and saved them, and no such file named winamp.q1 came up. So there's nothing to replace.
Does it have something to do with winamp playback settings like "Winamp 4front eq"? |

Did you understand Egg's comments?
The default install now splits the settings so that anything specific to an individual user is kept seperate from the main Winamp install. This covers things like playlists, bookmarks and presets. If you are using XP they will be found here : C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Winamp UJ |
