Planet Earth is 4,600 Milion Years Old....
Found this on a poster...Kinda makes you think, doesn't it?
Planet Earth is 4,600 million years old. If we condense this inconceivable time span into an understandable concept, we can liken the Earth to a person of 46 years of age. Nothing is known about the first 7 years of this person's life, and whilst only scattered information exists about the middle 35 years, we know that only at the age of 42 did the earth begin to flower. Dinosaurs and the great reptiles did not appear until one year ago, when the planet was 45. Mammals arrived 8 month ago; in the middle of last week, human like apes evolved into ape like humans, and at the weekend the last ice age enveloped the Earth. Modern humans have been around for 4 hours. During the last hour we discovered agriculture. The industrial revolution began 1 minute ago. During those sixty seconds of biological time, humans have made a rubbish tip of Paradise. They have multiplied to plague proportions, caused the extinction of 500+ species of animals, ransacked the planet for fuels and now stands like a brutish infant , gloating over the meteroic rise to ascendency, on the brink of a war to end all wars and effectively destroying this oasis of life in the solar system.. From 'Against all odds' - Greenpeace[1989] Music is Life, Love and Happiness :|: Life is Music. Serren - 1985 - 2005 Religion? Religion is a Blasphemy against humanity - From the film What the Bleep do we know siggy link So stumbling? whats it all about |

Figures that only an organisation as arrogant as greenpeace would come up with a quote like that to tell us how we've managed to turn the planet into some kind of charnel pit, while at the same time not actually offering any solution the problem other than 'hey lets be kind to the planet'
Even more arrogant and hypocritical if the poster itself was printed up on behalf of greenpeace... |

this planet is a lot more resiliant than most people think. We haven't come close to ruining it. We will run out of ways to pollute before we destroy the environment at large.

yea, what's funnier is greenpeace uses the same resources we do so they aren't any better, maybe they should go back the forest. Tree huggers like to scare people into believing that what we do is not natural, but in fact this is all natural, if it wasn't we wouldn't be.

Yes, definately an interesting look on things, and to be fair to greenpeace, probably not their quote to start with (I'm sure I've seen this or something very similar credited elsewhere).
It's the hypocrisy of them using it that irks me, as it does you as well so it seems. I won't deny that the human race has genearally abused the planet, but hey, such is life.... That's enough politics for me today ![]() |

My thoughts on Greenpeace - as to there hypocracy is there 'Holier than thou' sprout-offs at folk yet they use all the things they say pollute the planet. ~ ![]() Music is Life, Love and Happiness :|: Life is Music. how can one claim that humans evolved and yet the things we do are bad for nature? if we came about naturally, then everything we do should also be considered as a part of the natural course of events.
our exploitation of the planet will only lead to better evolved species in the future. |

Greenpeace may be arrogant and not the best at carrying the message of environmental degradation over to the public, but the fact does remain that as a species we have really done an extraordinary amount of damage in very little time.

I really liked the way it was put until the very end. It would've been nice if they'd continued in the "achievements" vein.

Earth is infected with cancer. We aren't even decent enough to be benign.
Agent Smith was correct in likening human life to a virus. |

If Humanity is a Virus - then viruses and Bacteria are the Earth's Anti-bodies.
