winamp .msc association rendered system tools unusable

Right what it says on the tin; the .msc extension which is used for system tools such as defrag had its association changed by winamp.

This has rendered these tools unusable; removing the association via winamp has not restored the original functionality(or the original icons).

So, how do I fix it?

msc isn't a file extension supported by the default Winamp distribution.
What 3rd-party input plugin did you install which supports the .msc extension as a music type?

What's the Windows OS? WinXP?

Go to: Start -> Run
Type: regedit
Hit Enter

Locate this key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.msc

Make sure the (Default) string is set to: MSCFile

The third-party extension was chipamp;the plugin advertised that it would restore the original file associations upon uninstall, which it did not, keeping in mind that I had already terminated the file association. Oddly enough, I found an entry in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.msc that appeared to be the backup created by the chipamp installation.

That said, your advice worked like a charm, thanks!
