Sad to see http://oddsock.org/ is no more. His tools were a pretty good alternative to Shoutcast tools

The Oddsock tools were some of the most inspiring going and really help drive adoption of streaming, such a shame.

I downloaded his source code about a year ago and started tinkering with it, fixing issues, tweaking the code, adding functionality ... I wonder what the "legal issues" are? Because I'm now making my tweaked versions available!!

And I agree this is a bad thing.There always should be a free alternative out there,
otherwise you have no say or control over the direction the software you use moves.

For encryption I can provide a compiled .dll or .so that does what you need.
Not too sure what the policy is on the code,I presume it is "top secret" for now.

however, no disrespect to Ed, I think I'll end up abandoning edcast and concentrate on my total rewrite ... which really has little in common with edcast now

Edcast was open source,that is what made it popular.
Without the source this is just another free sc source client.

Ed makes a remark that there was some sort of legal issues ...

to be honest, I don't use the winamp version at all ... but ... I will test it out and see if I can find the cause.

I haven't done much in the last month on it - I am working on a couple of bugs in the DSP version - though, it suffers the same issues as shoutcast dsp when running in vista/7 regarding sourcing from an audio device - I'm seriously considering making a winamp source only version (i.e. no soundcard support), as there is, I believe, a better solution to working with sound cards - thinktink's livewire - http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=319929

I'm also working on getting it shoutcast v2 compatible

I have been writing a ton of shortcodes while deployed.

I just need to resurrect my old laptop, but Im hoping I can apply them into a flash app that will help people interface with the newest IC2 trunk due to its ability's to reload server values without stopping the server or kicking listeners.

After that works, the same concept for SC2. But this all works if I can get away from work long enough to do so.
