Format Converter Errors
Hi there guys.
First, thanks for the always amazing WinAmp ![]() I find the Format Converter a very nice part of WinAmp as it is very handy in transcoding a lot of files for the use in portable devices. Also, it is great that it keeps all metadata including embedded pictures if the destination format supports them, which is usually missing in most transcoders. However, when Format Converter faces an error in writing a single file, it pauses the whole conversion process ![]() ![]() ![]() So, it would be a great enhancement if the conversion process does not stop on file errors and such problematic files are just skipped and reported at the end of the process. An alternative would be to leave the action to be done on encountering errors to the user to choose either ignoring the errors continuously or halting the process on encountering the first error. Wishing to see an improvement in this point in an upcoming release in the near future ![]() Keep up the good work ![]() |

Interestingly enough, this has been a pain for users since a VERY long time without a fix
![]() ![]() ![]() Similar to the "Cannot open destination file" message, the "Can't find decoder" error message has the same problem too. Format conversion process will be stopped till pressing OK which is a major pain. Come on WinAmp team ![]() ![]() thread from 2007 http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=274544 thread from 2008 http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=289480 thread from 2009: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=310186 and this thread http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=336062 |

I have noticed that for conversion to AAC, Format Converter in WinAmp version 5.623 is doing really great. For converting 9000+ songs from MP3 320kbps to AAC 128kbps, I had only 3 errors "Can't open encoder". When clicking OK, it resumes just fine. I guess this suggests that finally WinAmp crew are giving some attention to Format Converter and the stability of the encoders under batch conversion
![]() I hope that the other encoders works better in the near future. |
