The new site!!!

The new site design has gone live. Please feel free to leave feedback here. Please also provide us with your browser/OS when leaving feedback, so we have the needed info to troubleshoot.

**EDIT**
To cut down on the length of this thread I will be deleting suggestions as they get added to the main list. I will also be closing (and eventually deleting) new threads that are started.
**/EDIT**

**EDIT**
On the user section:
N means new, D means flagged for deletion. The user section is still in the works.
**/EDIT**

A few words of caution:

This is not a place to flame. We openly invite constructive criticism, but this is not an open invite to flame. I have plenty of water and a shiny ban button in case this thread turns into such.

CURRENT ITEMS
  • Editing the "about" dialog box won't update it.
  • Lots of empty space at header, maybe add an image or gradiant.
  • Verify timezones are correct.(VBulletin doesn't support DST afaik, still being investigated)
  • When you post a message the redirect box isn't centered on the page anymore.
  • Fixed width is not liked.
  • Use rounded corners to make the site look more like winamp modern skin.
  • Quick page changer looks like it says "60" and not "GO"
  • A:link and A:visited are the same color
  • Whenever there is an object in the post that is bigger than the normal size, the width increase happens to the right (aka, it isn't centered)
  • Winamp logo should include "NULLSOFT"
  • Upload timestamp next to plugin/skin. Using the arrows is "confusing"
  • Graphic+Text is overlapping on plugin/skin pages (eg. http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details/43754 )
  • Add classic skin to the player image on the main site.
  • If a subject is added to a post, have an extra line break so that it separates the subject and body of a forum post.
  • Layout is broken in some versions of opera. (Skin Search has "page number" centered instead of left justified.)
  • PNG submissions for skins/plug-ins
  • Light background is "horrible" and hard to focus.
  • Top menu should be CSS rather than javascript. Only do javascript if the browser is IE6.
  • Add a style for the input fields because the background color is undefined and the text color is, can cause user theme issues.
  • Images need to be limited to a certain size (but remain clickable) so that it doesn't throw off the page layout.
  • Forum buttons don't look as nice with the new theme.
  • Upgrade to vbb3 or use inline css elements rather than font tags.
  • "Thread Starter" column really wide, the Topic column very small, and all the other columns shifted off the page.
  • On the "Reply to Topic" page the "Topic Review" section looks like a mess; the left column need a standard width.
  • Thread border color should be the same gray color as the border in the forum pages.
  • when user logs out, the forum selection is at the left border.
  • Forum/thread search should be moved to the top of the page.

RESOLVED ITEMS (soon to be deleted from the list)
  • Rate this thread + Admin buttons stick out too far to the right (ratings removed. was applied in error)
  • From field in threads, not wrapping. (fixed)
  • Alternating posts should have more difference in color.(fixed)
  • Rewrite rule to allow old plugin/skin urls to work. (fixed)
  • Custom user titles, not wrapping. (fixed)
  • Sign in button on main page???(fixed)
  • SKINS: most downloaded and best rated section are no longer available.(fixed)
  • forums.winamp.com/favicon.ico is missing?(fixed)
  • Old skin/plugin view for newly uploaded items is gone.(fixed)
  • Player version doesn't list the full version. (5.3 vs 5.35)(fixed)
  • Javascript which notifies users of new private messages. (fixed)
  • Only 50x50 avaters, please make bigger. (fixed)
  • Text looks crunched vertically.(fixed)
  • Text spacing is exact pixel, should be percentage.(fixed)
  • The text at the very bottom of the page when reading a thread in the forums is inconsistent with that of the rest of the forums.(fixed)
  • Forums index text is too small(fixed)
  • Buttons at the bottom of each post should have a different bg color or a border to differentiate between posts.(fixed)
  • Footer text is too small.(fixed)
Thanks for the feedback so far. I'm impressed by all the comments that people have had so far (both good and bad). Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Please don't PM me for technical support. Other users can't search through PM's so it does the other users no good.

First reply in a new forum!

I've wanted to do that for the last seven years now....

Carry on...(oh, and get ready for a slew of 'why is it still fixed width' threads )

Oh, lovely. And here I was, thinking that a major update means that they might have implemented the changes people have been requesting for months

In any case, it looks nice enough. I'd suggest using rounded corners at the very top, similar to the WinAmp Modern default skin.

There is disconnection between the developers and the community. Communication channels should be far better, which is where I have usually took it upon myself to make such connections, or direct forum modifications.

WRT to the widescreen avatars, I did make it clear that I was waiting for these changes to be done and finalised before I offered up any code changes.

We'll see what happens, im sure things will get smoothed over pretty sharpish.

If they don't, you guys always have a whole ton of wrath to brandish

This is what I'm talking about - (1) the top line isn't displayed properly, (2) the box you reply in isn't displayed properly (too far to the right) and (3) and (4) the entire forum is small widthwise on the screen. Screen shots below:

Apparently, you haven't done anything about the text just below the "forum rules" thing - the layout/design is odd when reading a thread, but is consistent for everywhere else. I apparently need screenshots to help explain.

Screenshot #1 - When viewing a thread, you can see that the text at the very bottom is much smaller when reading a thread and the top part hard to read due to almost no contrast.

Screenshot #2 - Every other page has that same text displayed like in this screenshot. There is the same dark red background, the text is larger and much easier to read, and every other page besides the types shown in screenshot #1 (showthread.php).

This hasn't been fixed in the two days I've been reporting this oddity. You're probably just pointing to the wrong style for that part.

void BlueWater() {water.color=blue; while(GameRunning) {if (fox.pos == InBlueWater) {fox.air--; FoxDrown(fox.air);} else {fox.air=1800; fox.flags = WantsToGetWet; } WaitFrames(1); }} // My top favorite thing in 2D Sonic (as C)

Here's some CSS rules for Stylish (for firefox) that will make the forums variable width (wide screen capable)

code:
@namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);

@-moz-document domain("forums.winamp.com") {

#watermark {width: 95% !important;}
#container {width: 95% !important;}
#header {width: 98% !important;}
#nav {width: 98% !important;}
#subnav {width: 98% !important;}
#subheader {width: 98% !important;}
#pageheader {width: 98% !important;}
#content {width: 98% !important;}
#footer {width: 98% !important;}
}

it's not perfect since I cant figure out how to do the right shadow part of the background right, but it will do.

This is the skins database. . . everything will get up and running, but it just might be later rather than sooner.

Great!
I'm currently using this ruleset:
code:

@namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);

@-moz-document domain("forums.winamp.com") {

#subheader {width: 98% !important;}
#pageheader {width: 98% !important;}
#content {width: 98% !important;}
#subheader {height: 0px !important;}
#subheader div.ad {height: 0px !important;}
small {font-size: smaller; line-height: 113.33%;}
big { font-size: larger; line-height: 113.33%;}

h4 {font-size: medium; line-height: 113.33%;}
h5 {font-size: small; line-height: 113.33%;}
h6 {font-size: xx-small; line-height: 113.33%;}
font[size="1"] {font-size: xx-small; line-height: 113.33%;}
font[size="2"] {font-size: small; line-height: 113.33%;}
font[size="3"] {font-size: medium; line-height: 113.33%;}
font[size="4"] {font-size: large; line-height: 113.33%;}
font[size="5"] {font-size: x-large; line-height: 113.33%;}
font[size="6"] {font-size: xx-large; line-height: 113.33%;}

Firefox 2.0 and Windows 2000 SP4.

To add my previous (not so informative) post...
The glitch only occurs on skins/plug-ins that has long lines (without spaces) in the description text. E.g. The url in the Electric Wave skin description or url in the Beeropolis plug-in description.

Actually, this should be resolved after the code push I just did. It truncates it at a certain amount of characters and adds "..." to the end. Let me know if you're still seeing this, but hopefully the push from today resolved it. :-)

The text at the very bottom of the page when reading a thread in the forums is inconsistent with that of the rest of the forums. This is now the fourth time I've mentioned this and I don't see it in the master list either.

void BlueWater() {water.color=blue; while(GameRunning) {if (fox.pos == InBlueWater) {fox.air--; FoxDrown(fox.air);} else {fox.air=1800; fox.flags = WantsToGetWet; } WaitFrames(1); }} // My top favorite thing in 2D Sonic (as C)

Sorry. I had it listed as "footer text"...I'll add a second item for "The text at the very bottom of the page when reading a thread in the forums is inconsistent with that of the rest of the forums."

You just had "footer text is too small". The inconsistent style covers that and the color differences as well. The background otherwise is the dark red with the text of other colors and bigger. I've just given a more broader explanation and the flaw may be just pointing to the wrong part of the style sheet or the wrong style sheet as is. You can delete this (and my other message above) as it's for clarification and "improvement" on the notification. Thanks though.

void BlueWater() {water.color=blue; while(GameRunning) {if (fox.pos == InBlueWater) {fox.air--; FoxDrown(fox.air);} else {fox.air=1800; fox.flags = WantsToGetWet; } WaitFrames(1); }} // My top favorite thing in 2D Sonic (as C)

I've seen that you've fixed the case with larger avatars, but I still see it as 50x50 in the profile. Was that the original size? What is the new size, if it is actually available?

Also, a suggestion. For images wider than, say, 640 pixels, the image should be scaled down (keeping aspect ratio) and made clickable so a full-size version can be viewed. This prevents unwanted stretching for those who view wide images (such as my 1920x1440 screenshots) at a very low resolution without stretching the table enough to have horizontal scrolling. I can program the algorithm (in C anyway, not PHP) if you want since that should be fairly easy for me to do (being the math whiz I am). I can even have it so users (or the admins only) would be able to choose their maximum allowed widths (likely to be 1600 for me, but others may use 1280, 1024, 800, or 640 for their screen resolution). Allowing these options is beyond my knowledge for use in the forums, but I can have the algorithm support anything (out to maybe 65,535, the limit of a short).

void BlueWater() {water.color=blue; while(GameRunning) {if (fox.pos == InBlueWater) {fox.air--; FoxDrown(fox.air);} else {fox.air=1800; fox.flags = WantsToGetWet; } WaitFrames(1); }} // My top favorite thing in 2D Sonic (as C)

Craig updated the text so it would say 100 x 50 (widescreen).

That is in the works afaik. I know MoonMan is at least aware of the issue because there is also an issue with plug-ins and skins that needs this resize stuff added.

I wasn't referring to the plug-ins and skins, I'm referring to images posted here on the Winamp forums but I suppose it could also be used there. I just thought I could offer some assistance with the algorithm (but I, unfortunately, can only give it in C format).

I can confirm this myself. It seems as if the spacing between the table columns is excessively narrow. I'd suggest using 33%, 34%, and 33% for the column widths for the interior table size (or something like that, not sure if fractions can be used or what data type is used (float or double, or other)).

It's an easy fix. The problem lies within this table...

The problem lies within the 2 cell tags indicated in red above that are currently coded this way...
<td rowspan="2" width="50%">

The width attribute can either be eliminated completely, to have both cells read this way...
<td rowspan="2">

or... give them a lesser percentage.

Example:
<td rowspan="2" width="10%">

Problem solved.

Addendum...

This is how it will display using a width of 10% in those 2 cells...

Much better. Wouldn't you agree?

A hell of a lot better than this...

the site is a bit of a mess at the mo.
I am sure they are working feverously in the background to get it back in order...

Cheers, Pete

Very nice design. The old site was certainly due for a change.

I encountered a problem immediately, however, with the nav buttons at the top (i.e. home, player, skins, etc.). The problem is that if the mouse cursor hovers over a button revealing the drop down menu, but does not move over one of the menu options fast enough after leaving the button, the menu becomes hidden again. Quite frustrating! I tested this in Firefox 2.0 and IE 7.0 and was able to reproduce the problem in both browsers. The problem seemed to be worse in Firefox.
