I know for a lot of people, (mostly women), food is an anti-depressent that works for about a half an hour...

Good luck to you vixen. It is so frustrating not feeling "normal". I take ***** everyday. I went into a depression for no reason about 6 months ago. There was no reason for it. My life was going great. I went to my doctor because I was so depressed. I did not want to work or do anything. I just sat around and ate food. I gained 17 pounds. I have never weighed over 105 in my life and I was at 119!

Anyway, my doctor said it was a chemical imbalance. I went to therapy and the therapist said I was pretty healthy mentally. So I started taking the ***** and I have felt great after that! The only downfall of the ***** for me is I have a hard time with orgasm. I would much rather take the ***** and feel better and deal with the side effects.

You are in my prayers. I hope the meds help you, you seem like a very nice person.

I was on ******* and ***** for a while, but the ******* has some sexual side effects (it lowers your libido, which doesn't help, since a lot of my problem has to do with that to begin with) so my psychiatrist then got me onto Wellbutrin instead. The Wellbutrin was giving me some nasty side effects - trouble breathing, fever, dizziness, numbness - so now I'm not on anything. I see him on the 13th and hopefully he'll put me back on the *******, because that was working wonders. I've never felt so happy in my life.

I was also just diagnosed with hypothyroidism which would explain the depression. They're going to start me on something for that within the month, hopefully.

So now I'm on nothing, and I'm a total wreck. I do have a really good therapist, and she's been helping me a lot with the sex part, but without me being on some good meds, there's not a lot she can do about the depression.

You're lucky you still weigh 119 In one year I went from about 110 to 135. That doesn't help with the self-esteem part of my depression, heh.

LoL @ Vie!

I'm not taking anything for my "mild" depression. But, my doctor did warn me that if I do have a bad bout within the next few months, he'll put me on some. A lot of my depression is due to past issues of low self-esteem, but that's been slowly changing for me. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and hope that I can live with my depression without meds as long as I can.

Actually, it has been shown (IIRC) that chocolate slightly raises seritonin levels in the brain (most anti-depressents are SSRIs, or Selective Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitors - basically raising seritonin in the brain)...

I take Welbutrin, and we've recently added Depakote. I was diagnosed with non-specified bi-polar disorder and PTSD about 5 years ago. The meds have really made a difference for me. I don't have such drastic, uncontrolable mood swings anymore.

*shrug* I'm not too fond of the whole idea of taking anything that helps your "chemical imbalance."

If I had a choice of being depressed or taking drugs, I'd rather be depressed and find another way out of it.

please ignore this post, no flame wars

Brain imaging has shown that people with untreated depression have smaller a hippocampus than a control group of mentally (can't think of word)... non-depressed! subjects.
Also of note.
Anti-depressants seem to stimulate neurogenesis(sp), the mechanism by which the brain regrows new neurons.

Oh just go out take some E's and get battered, it far more fun than being depressed and taking 'good capitalist worker' pills. Remember kids 'a happy sedated workforce is a more productive workforce.'

Only E's can give some terrible downs afterwards, if you're allready depressed..... trust me!

luckely i hit the downhill rollercoaster the first time i tried it, so it wasn't very tempting to do that shit again.

A psychiatrist prescribed Wellbutrin SR for me, and I took them two days in a row, but then stopped. I saw/see no reason to take any medication for my depression, because my problem has nothing to do with a chemical imbalance. My depression has to do with my attitude, beliefs toward certain issues, and flashbacks of horrible memories.

I was on *******, but it had a negative effect. Now I'm on Keppra (and a different psychiatrist; the old one denied the possibility that ******* could have a certain side effect when we knew for a fact it was document as a possible one. It was for this reason we switched)

Keppra is good with anxiety disorders; I have generalized anxiety disorder and asberger's syndrome.

First of all, I'd like to say I've missed you! As far as my libido, It's been in dormancy since my girlfriend died. I expect it will return eventually, just in time to make me an official "Dirty Old Man".
