Install Shoutcast on Synology

Hi All,

I'm running a shoutcast server over a year on a Windows platform. Recently i bought a NAS (Synology) which is running on Linux. Because this Synology is always running, i'd like to install shoutcast on this NAS. I'm a complete newbee on Linux, but managed to install it following this instructions on Youtube.
But at the end when i'm trying to start to program (./sc_serv) it doesn't start. I see this error message:

-sh: ./: Permission denied
This are the file properties:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 admin users 1901504 Jul 31 2011 sc_serv

What's going wrong? Any help would be appreciated....

tia,

Marcel

That video is dated as the old SHOUTcast 1.9.8 is no longer supported.

For a quick solution looky at my siggy.

[EDIT/]
Whether or not a NAS device would support another service I have no idea but if it's really a true linux kernel then I guess it might be possible.

unfortuneNATly

it doesn't work:

DiskStation> ./installsc.sh
BusyBox v1.16.1 (2012-03-07 15:47:21 CST) multi-call binary.

Usage: readlink FILE

Display the value of a symlink

Could it be this is the 64 bit version? I had the same error message when i downloaded the 64 bit version pack from Shoutcast.

Thanks anyway for thinking with me!

Kind regards,

Marcel

Hmmm, after unzipping manually:

Looks like the NAS will not let you run anything other than what came with it. I wonder if it's something you could jail break.

If you give me the keys to your castle I could try it myself. Would just need to port forward your NAS's control/ssh/telnet/whatever port and PM me the IP, username, and password.

sc_serv isn't being run as that's a shell error being reported and nothing from sc_serv itself.

as thinktink mentioned in an earlier post it most likely is they've locked things down and that would seem to be the case based on that sort of error response.

A NAS is indeed quite locked down. Never seen a jailbreak for one either.

hello, i just joined these forums to give a bit of added help, synology's nas's are more open then you think, there are even a lot of people that have made packages for it, and synology supports this, the only thing you need is having your synology Dsm updated to the latest version or atleast more then 4.0. i am running vpn, openremote, java, a minecraft server, and a custom backup app on my synology DS210j

just my two cents

Well said, I know you can do pretty much anything on these, is there a solution to running the shoutcast server on these yet? Also I would like it to run a CRON job however after setting it all up etc and putting it in the cron job is there but it is not running it
