SACD's

To my knowledge there is no software out there able to play SACD's. But most new computers have DVD drives and 24bit/96khz sound cards with digital outputs, so all that's left is software to play SACD's right?

SACD's (need input please)

OK, I wrote earlier about SACD's but no replies. So let me start with what it's all about. SACD's (Super Audio CD's) and DVD-A (DVD Audio) improve sound like DVD's improved VHS(quoting from some article). CD format is 44,100 samples taken each second where these new format's take 96,000 samples each second. The new formats record 250 times more detail and 50% more dynamic range than CD's. It's got to be awsome and from what people who have heard it say it is awsome. It's really really new but you can buy players and music just about anywhere now. But with how fast the computer industry moves I would have thought you would be able to download some player like Winamp that would play one of these formats. As long as you had the hardware to support it(DVD drive and 24bit/96khz sound card from what I know). But I can not find a single line of text on the internet that even discusses this possibility. So please let me know if anyone has heard anything about this....

when it's possible to aquire a DVD-A or SACD disk

Thanks for the reply winamprocker.
DVD-A and SACD are availaible. I have seen them at almost all local music stores. But DVD-A seem to be more popular. DVD-A and SACD don't use PCM they use DSD (Direct Stream Digital). But I know that it was planned that a PC with a DVD ROM drive would be easily upgradable to play DVD-A.

Use the WinampAC3 - AC3/DTS decoder:
http://www.winamp.com/plugin/winampac3/221648
Rename the SACD DSD sourcefile to .dts and have winamp play this extension.

In case of a simple 2 speaker setup, if you experience a 'phaser' sound effect produced with channel recombination, change Output to '2/2 - quadro' in: Preferences, Plugins, Input, Winamp AC3 Decoder, Configure, Main, Output Format.

not sure what you're thinking.....dts and dsd are totally different formats, and have totally different properties. simply changing the file extension won't do anything.
