Video crashes and lag when switching files/tracks

Brand new Win7x64 installation with 4GB of ram. Computer is ONLY used for winamp.

I have two problems that I can't seem to fix:

1. Sometimes videos work fine, other times they'll chug/stutter and crash winamp (winamp just disappears). I used to be able to play videos flawlessly using K-lite codec pack and Winamp (not sure which version it was- I use the most current version now), but now it's a crapshoot. Videos are being played off a brand new SSD, so it's not a hardware problem. I tried switching codec packs (to XP codec pack) to no avail. The files are regular AVI files that I've never had a problem with in other winamp installs, so I'm lost. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

2. Skipping from track to track or video to video. Again, I used to be able to just double-click on a file in the playlist and instantly start that file (be it video or audio). Now, there's a MASSIVE freeze when I do this (Winamp goes into a non-responsive state) until the track starts, and sometimes on a fresh restart of winamp, the track just won't play (despite all the files being on an SSD, and no other programs running at the time). Other times, no problem. Tracks move from one to another with no lag. Does anyone know what might cause this?

I've got only two plug-ins installed (the CDG file plugin and Chronotron), and they're not usually running. In any case, they've never been a problem in the past (I know Chronotron crashes video, but I never run it while I've got video running).

Again- Any help would be greatly appreciated. It sucks to be playing short videos one after another and having some crash winamp completely.

Oh- one other problem-- Sometimes AVS is fine, with a nice high framerate, and other times it chugs. The computer is running nothing but Winamp when this happens, so I don't know what's different from case to case.
