Thanks for the info. I've played around with it some more and got it to work but only on my network, and not to the internet. I'll keep trying though.

I had everything working fine, and then I restarted it and now I get this, but I think the station still works...

Remove spaces from your AIM, IRC and/or ICQ entries in the DSP.

This means that the SHOUTcast yp can not connect to your stream and verify that it is there. This will pose a problem since listeners will not be able to connect either. The reason for this error can be a few things:

1) If 68.50.40.106 is not your IP then there is something down stream which the yp is picking up as your stream (i.e. web cache, proxy) so it is no wonder why it can find your stream there since it is not there. If this is the case setting Yport to 666 (i.e. Yport=666) in sc_serv.ini/sc_serv.conf should fix this problem.

2) You have a firewall that is blocking incoming requests and therefore the yp can not find your stream. The solution for this is to configure your firewall properly. Also note the Windows XP ships with a default firewall.

3) Finally if you are sharing an internet connection among several PCs you will need to properly configure the gateway device to forward the PortBase (by default 8000) to the proper machine on your LAN. Check the documentation for the gateway device for specifics on how to do this.

This means that the source port (by default 8001) is already in use. Most likely you already have one instance of the DNAS running, or perhaps you changed SrcIP in sc_serv.ini/sc_serv.conf in which case set it back to ANY and this error should go away.

Tom

I got the first error messge in your post but it still don't work after changing port to 666

Since this thread is all over the place, please copy-n-paste the exact error message.

Are the necessary ports open in your firewall and are they being forwarded to the DNAS machine?

ok i read through all the possible threads i could and still no solution.

My error message is the ever popular:

[yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave error (nak)
[yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: 68.120.230.23:8000) from the Internet, disable Internet Sharing/NAT/firewall/ISP cache (Connection timed out))

Here's what i have done allready. I checked to see if my IP is infact 68.120.230.23. When i do an ipconfig in my dos command it tells me it is infact not that but that it is 196.168.1.2. So i take it that the latter is the real one. If that is the case then i guess that would mean i would have to change that one variable in the shoutcast server setup from 80 to 666 as mentioned above. Done that. The next thing ive done is that i correctly made sure that the ports needed were forwarded by going into the router setup and putting in 8000 : 8001 in the appropriate fields, making sure to enter in 196.168.1.2 in teh IP address and clicking enable. I also did the TMZ thing just incase. STILL no luck. Hopefully this thread is STILL looked at cause i could use some help. Thanks alot in advance.

Rul0r and Expo, Check out http://www.radiotoolbox.com/cantheygetin and see if the reported information there helps.

Q: what ya mean with network config. ????
A: Describe how your machine(s) gets/uses an Internet connection.

festerhead radio toolbox is what i used to see what they saw my ip as. They see it as 68.120.230.23, AND they see it as closed. Thats just not true because i opened up my REAL ip through the dos prompt (ipconfig) and it said 196.168.1.2. But the toolbox seems pretty dang convinced that its 68.120.230.23.

192.168.1.2 is a lan ip and accessable only with computers on your lan.

See RFC1918 for more information. Scroll down and look for the section titled:
3. Private Address Space

DNAS link: http://yourDNASip:yourDNASport
Listen link: http://yourDNASip:yourDNASport/listen.pls

Replace yourDNASip with the ip of the DNAS (SHOUTcast server) and yourDNASport with the DNAS port (default is 8000)

Also, if your router doesn't support local loopback then machines on the same lan as the DNAS (you) need to use the lan ip of the DNAS to connect/listen.
Machines not on the same lan as the DNAS (the rest of the world) need to use the real, world-visible ip of the DNAS to connect/listen.

How to find your ip address (Part I).
How to find your ip address (Part II).

Nope no one could listen in. So i see no help coming from the port forwarding that had to be done for my LAN IP. I am completely confused lol.

Do you have a firewall?

Do you use some form of Internet Connection Sharing?

Do you use Windows XP?

Winamp -> SHOUTcast DSP -> Input tab -> Input Device

My guess is it's soundcard.

Here's your problem:
"<07/23/03@23:45:00> [dest: 205.188.234.41] connection closed (0 seconds) (UID: 4)[L: 0]{Bytes: 8192}(P: 0)"

Fix:
Don't disconnect your source.

After 30 seconds of not having a source connected, the DNAS drops out and tells the yp "Hey, I'm not broadcasting anything. Remove me from the yp (yellow pages) because I have nothing to hand off to potential listeners".

The messages below are "Good Things".

"yp added me" means your station information (station name, bitrate, maximum number listeners, current number listeners, currently playing song, ...) has been added to the SHOUTcast yp (yellow pages) directory.

"yp touched" means your station information (station name, bitrate, maximum number listeners, current number listeners, currently playing song, ...) has been updated in the SHOUTcast yp directory.

It can take up to 15 minutes after the first "yp touched" message before your station appears from a SHOUTcast yp search.

I also have the proper ports being forwarded. I have no firewall blocking them. I have internet sharing disabled. I've tried many things, and I still don't know why it won't work.

Oh yes, it was working before, then I shut down the computer and unplugged all the cords so I could re-run the cables under my house so they can come up from the floor, and not trail along the floor from my dad's office to my room. Then, when I turned my computer back on and got into the network, I started the DNAS and Winamp with Shoutcast v1.8.2b and I received that message. And I did that radiotoolbox thing to check my ports, and oddly it says they are closed. But they shouldn't be, and I did nothing to the configurations of anything before/after I messed with the network.

Hi! I am just as new at this as you, but i had the same problem

The other process could be anything like apache or even if you run the server twice. . .if you look in the bottom right hand corner, you will see that there is a periwinkle icon with a lightning bolt that will go away if you kill the server.

Also, there are some other things I can help you with. --> not that darned missing file. . . I am still trying to get help with that.

Look at your network connections. You may have one next to the blue cloud in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. Also from any win explorer window you will find them, or from your start menu or control panel. I dont know your OS. Anyhow.

You will find them. Right click on your internet connection and take note of whether or not it mentions shared and firewalled. Select the first tab. Check all those boxes. Then select the advanced tab and you will see there are 3 options there. Unselect the first option, hit apply, and then restart your computer.

Make sure you do not start up apache or any other device that will change the settings for that port.

Start up your server and see if that works!

How To Do This

3) Finally if you are sharing an internet connection among several PCs you will need to properly configure the gateway device to forward the PortBase (by default 8000) to the proper machine on your LAN. Check the documentation for the gateway device for specifics on how to do this.

What are you using for internet connection sharing?
Hardware (such as a router)?
Software (such as ICS)?
