SHOUTCAST ERROR

<08/08/03@06:41:28> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave error (nak)
<08/08/03@06:41:28> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: xxx.xx.xx.xxx:8000) from the Internet, disable Internet Sharing/NAT/firewall/ISP cache (Connection refused))

i took the www.radiotoolbox.com test and got this :

Reason Given: Connection refused
More about this error: This essentially means that the port is open to the internet but has no services associated with it. There is no firewall protection on this port.

I am connected via DSL, and i also am hooked up to a Netgear wireless router model number MR314. My dsl box is Netopia.

I am on Windows XP and have tried going to my network connections and shuttin off all the firewalls...please help

Two (or less) easy steps:
1. If you have a firewall, open the necessary port(s).
2. If you have a router, configure it to forward the necessary port(s) to the DNAS machine.

Check out the Sticky post titled:
SHOUTcast: Important Info & Answers to FAQs. READ ME!

Scroll down a bit and look for the section titled:
DNAS Stuff -> Errors -> Fixing [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxx) from the Internet, disable NAT/firewall/ISP cache (Connection timed out)

Are the necessary ports open in your firewall and are they being forwarded to the DNAS machine?

Check out http://www.radiotoolbox.com/cantheygetin and see if the reported information there helps.

There are other things to do besides check for a firewall.

Do you have a router?

Do you use Windows XP?

Did you go to cantheygetin?

Did you disable/configure the built-in Windows XP firewall?

Three questions posted, one answer replied.
Still waiting for answers to the other two questions.

i´m not in a router
200.67.204.99:8000 is Closed

Reason Given: Connection timed out
More about this error: This means that you are most likely behind a firewall, this error esentially says that you and your computer aren't there. You might also check to be sure that your ip is 200.67.204.99, if it is not then you are behind some sort of proxy.

that´s the result from the link

and it is my ip, i checked it on whatismyip.com

Ok so far.

Does your ISP block ports?

Are you using some sort of Internet Connection sharing?

To find out if your ISP blocks ports, try asking them.

A piece of polite advice to all thos people posting problems in this thread and to all people running or trying to run a shpoutcast server.

Whilst running a shoutcast server is comparatively straight forward it is not as easy as browsing the web or setting up outlook express to collect your mail. Most of the everyday thing 99% of internet users do involve the user connecting to a remote machine and receiving information, running s shoutcast server is the exact oposite, you are the remote machine and other people are connecting to you. In order to allow this to happen you need to know a little about TCP/IP which is the protocol (or language) that is used on the internet to allow computers to comunicate with each other. If you are getting messages like "unable to resolve yp.shoutcast.com" and "yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: xx.xx.xx.xx:xxx ) from the Internet, disable Internet Sharing/NAT/firewall/ISP cache " and you do not understand what this means, then you realy should spend a few hours learning about TCP/IP so that you can understand things like ip addresses and port, firewalls, routing, dns servers etc. as these things are fundemental to allowing connections from the outside world to your server. If you cannot understand these things then perhaps running a shoutcast server is not for you and if you realy want to run one then you should employ one of the many hosting services where they will do all the technical work for you and put up a server for as little as $0.50 per concurrent listener per month.

Right well, if you are aware of all the concepts then have you tried the obvious, i.e. to run an nslookup or a dig on the the machine upon which the server is running to see if it can infact resolve yp.shoutcast.com, ie. if the shoutcast server works ok but you are having dns issues you would get this error

Gettin PISSED!

I will shorten my response time with answering previous ?s in post above.

Do you have a router? Yes. How do I reconfigure OR WHAT EVER!I went to the website for my router and tried it per their instructions. But it did nothing. NOTHING!!!!!

Do you use Windows XP? Yes when I tried to disable the firewall as per windows directions, I DONT have an advanced tab in the window for that or any network connection. Therefore cannot choose disable firewall. ?!?!??!WTF! Is it because of the router?!?!

Did you go to cantheygetin? Yes. It says I'm behind a firewall or proxy.

I previously thought I was rather deecent at computers, but this has been shot that to hell.

I have been searching the forums for about 2 hours. I'm tired and I quit smokin today.
There has to be an easier way!

I'm having the exact same problem. Running a NAT D-link DI-624 Router, I did everything it says (I hope) Correctly. Does anyone know anything on the D-link, or even has it running with the SHOUTcast client? I would really like to know what your settings are. Please help, I need this, thanks.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, I need help with ZoneAlarm Pro 4. I don't know if I am doing the correct thing in opening the UDP ports on incoming and outgoing (8000-8005) Or if it is supposed to be TCP, Please please please help!

Check out http://www.radiotoolbox.com/cantheygetin and see if the reported information there helps.

Does your ISP block ports?

Commersial internet providers dont block ports, dont give that to frustrated askers for solution. Do like make the software unbuggy, then claim to be a decent howto-forum. Me, like many else, do have read all documentation, an edit up our asses, still no luck. Hereby, i'm signing off this shit.

For people to connect to your station, you have to find out your current IP number. The number that connects direct to your computer.

I am on cable. My ISP has a proxy between me and the internet. I happen to know my IP number, so I can connect direct to my radio station.

BUT, yp.ShoutCast playlist is getting the REMOTE_ADDR variable, which is different from the HTTP_FORWARDED variable. I imagine it's geting this from the proxy. This causes an error message. It expects to get to your station via the wrong number, finds no broadcast there, and so gives an error message.

My true IP number is the HTTP_FORWARDED variable.

This link will tell you your true IP number:

I am a webmaster of some years experience. I found setting
up Shoutcast a trial, because if ONE thing is wrong in your setup, it won't work. Shoutcast has one or two little quirks. It's complicated, and requires perserverance.

The only solution is to dig around these forums. Copy and paste the error message in the search box. You may have to use + or AND between each word (can't remember).

Some ISPs do block ports.

SHOUTcast is extrememly easy to setup.
Configuring the network for SHOUTcast usage may not be as easy.

I have a little lan whit a linux box that acts as router/firewall:

adsl

linux

|----pc1 ( 8100 )
|
|----pc2 ( 8200 )

I had forwarded (using iptables) port 8100:8101 and 8200:8200 to pc1 and pc2 and there shoutcast works fine.

Today I've found a linux version and so I'd like to use only one shoutcast installed on the linux box.
I've opened the ports 8010:8011 , clients connect to shoutcast but it give me the error " yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: X.Y.Z.W:8010)...) and it's my real public ip

Can anyone help me?
Thanks

korth

PS: sorry for my english
Sorry to hijack this thread slightly but i have exactly the oposite problem, i am using IPtables and i can open ports easily enough but i cannot seem to get it to forward ports. Maybe we can exchange config files and we can help each other out PM me if you want.

Do not PM me for tech support !

help

im luddite where pc's are concerned i checked that other link

got this as a response

Reason Given: Connection refused
More about this error: This essentially means that the port is open to the internet but has no services associated with it. There is no firewall protection on this port.

it means so little to me

If you have a router, configure it to forward the necessary port(s) to the DNAS machine.

Please describe your network configuration.
