Help - Winamp Media File "extension"

All files that are opened with Winamp shows their kind of file in the information box ( pic ). I want .mp3 files to be showed as what kind of file they really are, in this case it should be showed as "MP3" in the info box, the same with .wav etc. However, I want all media files to be opened with Winamp by default. I tried to change the extensions manually but all the files that is opened with Winamp also changed to that name in the info box.I need to convert some songs to .mp3 so this is really necassary. Help is greatly appreciated.

Windows > Folder Options > View tab
Uncheck "hide extensions for known file types"

That's the same answer as I got before, just that it changes the extension of the filename in the explorer window, but not in the information box. When you sort your icons by "detailed list" it still says "Winamp media file". I just want the information box extension name(inside the red square in the picture in my previous post) there to change, not the filename extension to be visible. Well at least you can now see what kind of file it is... But aren't there such an option to JUST change the extension in the info box, but NOT the extension in explorer mode?

Where? You've only made 2 posts on the forums. Are you referring to some other username/account?

There's no way to do that via the Winamp interface.

Different icons/descriptions for associated filetypes (known workarounds):
