Winamp Open Source
In my observation winamp has a wide community of users so making it opensource will help the player becoming more popular. And there is a chance for many flavours of winamp

Why it won't happen ? it will be a great move and also we can expect a linux based solution of winamp which many expected over years.

The owners of Winamp paid for it so are not likely to make it open source.
The closest you will get is WACUP which is open sourcing each new part until eventually all the original Winamp components are gone. There are several Linux users happy with WINE and have most functionality. Not much can be done about the Discord integration but it is a minor issue. never? i mean, i wouldn't say never. more like unlikely.
however, someone who has the code might leak it. i'd be all for that. PENN STATE Radio or http://www.LION-Radio.org/ -- BUG #1 = Winamp skips short tracks Wish #1 = Multiple Column Sorting Wish #2 = Add TCMP/Compilation editing |

But shoutcast removed all purchases for pro version and made everything free for everyone in v5.8. From this move we can hope about making it open source.

have a look at http://software.oldversion.com/windows/winamp/ the only reason pro was made , 3th party plugins with licenses that had to be paid for. Winamp always has been free for everyone |

There is a lot of open source software which is very good because when software is open source you can prove the code and see how it works. I love FOSS on Linux. I would like to see Winamp on Linux, on Mac and on Android.

Is AIMP based on Winamp's code? A lot of the functionality seems similar. Library search is much faster in AIMP compared to Winamp though.

How much did they pay for it? How much would they be willing to sell it for? Perhaps we could crowd source some money to buy it, then open source it?

Depends on how much radionomy values winamp.
I figure at least a few million, assuming shoutcast is included. PENN STATE Radio or http://www.LION-Radio.org/ -- BUG #1 = Winamp skips short tracks Wish #1 = Multiple Column Sorting Wish #2 = Add TCMP/Compilation editing |

A few *million*, for something that can't be sold for money? Is shoutcast actually making them money?

I would personally be interested in having different plugins open sourced, rather the whole thing.
At least open source the Modern Skin Engine, as a start. |

I would like to see the entire thing open sourced, so we can make a 64-bit build. We need the whole thing.

what about the 3rd party plugins?
you cant just dump those i still stand by having components open sourced that they're allowed to, the rest can then be more or less easily replaced |

We should open source as much as possible, including whatever third party plugins people have made over the years. Milkdrop is open source.

I think a better idea would be to make an open source version (Openamp?) for Linux and Windows, with just the engine and Classic Theme pre-installed. Then, additional parts can be added as necessary.
Maybe that will finally get me off Windows 8.1! |

Well, our only hope for the moment is WACUP, despite not being open source.
