DSD support
I'm sure this has been brought up before, but are there any plans to add support
for DSD (dff, dsf) playback? I'd really like to see something other than foobar support these files. |

definitely not natively and won't happen as a 3rd party plug-in unless someone who knows the format and has the interest to do so.

Were you looking to have Winamp play to a compatible DSD device or did you just want to playback DSD files on your computer to listen to them?

I'd like to see this as well. I'm collecting a lot of DSD files and it would be nice to have one player instead of switching between foobar and my favorite winamp.
Also if Winamp ever gets a good port to the mac with all these updates that would be amazing .... dear lord does Mac need a good audio player. |

DSD Plugin for Winamp by David Kharabadze:
in_dsd.zip Super Audio CD (SACD) use Sony DSF files and Philips DFF files. Use this simple plugin to extend the capabilities of Winamp, so that it can play special Direct Stream Digital files in DSF and DFF formats. Copy file in_dsd.dll to Winamp\Plugins folder. SACD or Super Audio CDs support storing several separate audio channels and features a longer playing capability. The files are stored in DSD (Direct Stream Digital) format, a technology that permits a greater dynamic range and frequency response than the standard CD. With this plugin, Winamp can play DSD files in DSF and DFF formats, just as any other audio track stored on your computer. Playing SACDs on your computer is a convenient alternative for users who believe them to deliver better sound clarity and offer more audio nuances... |

Are you saying it crashes your Winamp installation?
It works on mine perfectly... I was just wondering how it works, what is the quality of the played file? My Winamp player says something to the effect of 56H KB/S 44.1 KHZ. However I have discovered that when I manually convert the DSD files (that is, .dsf files) the absolute highest I can convert it to and still have Winamp play it is 92H KB/S 92 KHZ. So my converted dsf to wav files are of higher quality then using this plugin? |

[EDIT/] Also, I can't find any DSD files available online for free, even sample files, so I can't test the plugin. Can you attach a sample file? |

Negative. The dll is freeware and I copy-pasted the author's name.
Here's a DSD (.dff) file for you http://wikisend.com/download/275536/...Play.part1.rar http://wikisend.com/download/659380/...Play.part2.rar Is my observation on what the absolute highest rate Winamp can play correct and how does it compare to the dll's file doing the converting on the fly? Here are my complete notes on experimenting with this format: To convert .dsf files (DSD files), install 30-day trial of http://www.jriver.com/download.html File > Open Media File... > Open (multiple) .dsf file(s) > [upper left] Playing Now > Hold SHIFT or CTRL to select multiple files > Right click on them > Library Tools > Convert Format... > [lower left] select format, Uncompressed Wave or FLAC Encoder > [under Convert] Options > First click on Apply DSP to be able to click on DSP Settings > Make sure Channels is set to: Source number of channels Right click on sample rates > SELECT: Set all to no change for 352,800 Hz or Set all to 44,100 Hz for standard CD format or Set all to 48,000 Hz for standard DVD format or Set all to Hz 192,000 Hz [the highest rate Winamp will play] > [Upper right] X to exit > OK > Convert Direct-Stream Digital (DSD) uses pulse-density modulation encoding - a technology to store audio signals on digital storage media that are used for the SACD. The signal is stored as delta-sigma modulated digital audio; a sequence of single-bit values at a sampling rate of 2.8224 MHz (64 times the CD Audio sampling rate of 44.1 kHz, but only at 1/32768 of its 16-bit resolution). .dsf files CANNOT be played on Blu-ray players capable of playing standard SACD discs however, even if using a USB stick or burning them to a CD/DVD/Blu-ray disc. |

It was the only plug in there is for Winamp, that I know of.
The link you linked to is for foobar... I'm not sure, I'm trying to figure out the relevance of a foobar plugin? Did I miss something about that, is there something in your link for Winamp too? Also, when I go to configure this plugin in Winamp, I get No configuration. Auto-detection of DSD type How and where did you get to Advanced Settings? And finally, my Winamp skin displays the bit rate, it is displaying 56H KB/S 44.1 KHZ. when using the Winamp plugin to play DSD files. But it appears that if I manually convert DSD files, then I can convert them to be higher bitrate... |
