Say you wanted to know the actual numerical value of wave_r
in your per_frame just type

monitor = wave_r

and if you press n the value in the top right is that of wave_r.

Work for all the variable in the per_frame mode. I believe.

Not to stress you out Rova, but could you post me a preset with a good example for me to see. I assume you can only use it for one variable per preset, (am I correct on that?) Also maybe I did not pay much attention before but what is the major use for this besides debugging, (maybe for show?). Boy is this thread the longest I have ever seen (2 pages now), and all because of geiss. Thanks, SM

Never mind Rova I figure it all out, you can only have one instance of it. I tried it with two and it totally change my whole preset. What was that all about? Hmmm, Now to go see if it works with per pixel? Nope does not work for per pixel. SM

hehe

It's not for actual presets - only to help MAKE presets. Any preset you post here, whould NOT have a line with 'monitor' in it.

I meant should, not would.
having the 'monitor =' line still in the preset would be silly.

so do you just shamelessly bump threads at random with irrelevant crap to the computer to say your name, or what?

Well I'm quite sure that I can't speak for the rest of 'em, but as one of the silent masses, I would just like to say thanks to everyone who creates presets for milkdrop. Seriously, at the end of the day when university has me stressed, milkdrop and music are the ambrosia that sustains me.
Though I am way to intimidated by all the behind the scenes code that goes on in some of these presets to actually have a go at it myself, I do marvel at your abilities to synthesize math, art, and all-out-drug-induced-trippiness (when I'm sober no less).
I've been logging in to Rovastar's site and downloading presets since that lonely little counter was barely into double digits and the improvement in the quality of the work is astounding. (btw, thanks rovastar for the service). And while I too think milkdrop is vastly underappreciated in the world of computer art, there is something sexy about showing it off to the uniniciated. "Oh you think the visualization on the Xbox is cool... come here a second, sonny, lemme show you something..." The only thing I've found that compares in beauty and technical prowess is the Energia demo by Sunflower (scene.org > viewing tips).
Anyway, enough absent rambling, suffice it to say that, though I'm not an active contributer, I am an AVID appreciater. Keep up the good work, one and all.

*A ghost of a former preset author's whispery voice can be heard on the wind saying..*

X-Box sucks! I'm sure there's lots of things more visually appealing then that trash...

If he takes any longer when Zylot returns I may have to start storing his milks in the newbies zip file on my website.

Sorry mate that was uncalled for. But we miss you.

BTW thanks for the kind words kopman we like those words of encouragement.
