Winamp 2.80 freeze after pressing "add file"

I have this big directory on my pc full of mp3's. And in it is a playlist referring to them all. All my new mp3's are saved in this same directory as well.

When I wanted to add a file to the playlist before this problem Im having now I just pressed add file and a screen popped up opening the big directory and I could chose which file to add.

Now the problem is this: one day I wake up and start winamp, I want to add a file to the playlist and click "add file". Suddenly winamp in incapably op opening the huge directory and freezes. Uninstalling and reinstalling doesnt work anymore. Now I can't use my playlist anymore cause it also causes the add file option to search the big directory and thus crash winamp.

If I don't load the playlist and just click add file (so winamp suggests another directory to search for mp3's than the big one) all is well. Winamp is just not capable of opening the big directory anymore. I can't possibly see why, can you guys help me?

O yes, Norton antivirus with the newest update didnt find anything either...

Try these related troubleshooters:

At a guess, one or more of the files in that folder are possibly corrupt and are giving Winamp a hard time reading them.
Test the dir with mp3utility

Also, are there any other formats/extensions in the folder other than .MP3 (particularly any formats which Winamp doesn't natively support) ?
(eg. exe, zip, txt, jpg, mpeg, temp, mpga, lnk, etc etc)

Mp3Utility

Damn the site you gave me from Mp3Utility doesnt exist or is offline. Now how do I get it?
There were a couple of .sm files in the directory, loading the mp3 files into bpm-studio causes that. But deleting them didnt help
There's now only mp3 files in there. Still freezing when adding a file though...

Hmm, yahoo/geocities appear to be running maintenance tests at the mo.
Get MP3Utility here

btw, did you also take a look at those 3 troubleshooter links as well?
The fix you're looking for might well be contained within

I found out!! Not with help of that mp3utility program though
It marked certain files as corrupt, removing them didn't help though.
So I started experimenting with it myself, you know move half the directory to another folder and seeing if the corrupt files was gone from the directory now. After a bit of experimenting with it I found the one mp3 file that made Winamp crash and I deleted it. yay me!
