winamp sound channel problem

so i've installed winamp5.32 and been using it for quite some time. today, i've had music and winamp playing nearly the whole day. then out of no where, my right speaker (on my laptop) went dead but the song was still playing, then shortly afterward the left speaker went dead.

i tested playing songs at max volume on windows media player and it continues to be completely fine. i dont' think i blew my speakers or it was bad connection. my best guess right now is a bug in winamp?

during the time that one of my speaker was silent and my other was playng, i paused and resumed the song and i hear a little eletronic buzzing out of the right speaker.

hope you guys can help me

i'd say the winamp balance was on the right then the left.

with the classic skin the slider is next to the volume.

with the modern skin the slider in in the EQ tab.

Try the DirectSound output tweaks:
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....26#post1212926

Make sure no plugin is selected under Prefs > Plug-ins > DSP/Effect.

If no luck, please provide more info:

sorry for not providing enough information, i couldn't edit the first post so i'll try posting here

Please include all relevant system specs, including:
-PC or Motherboard make/model (Dell Inspiron 9300)
-CPU & RAM (2.4 intel, 512mb)
-Sound card or chip (sigmatel c-major audio)
-Windows OS (windows xp, w/service pack 2)
-DirectX version (9.0c
-Winamp version (5.32)
-Confirmation of the Winamp installation type (FULL)

note: if i change the track of the song, everything returns to normal... kinda weird

hypothesis 1: i recently installed cisco vpn software, it appears to happen more often when the vpn software is open with winamp. is there a file conflict or is vpn hurting the file buffers? can someone look into this, this appears to be the most likely one for me. is the program lagging the directsound buffer?

***I am pretty sure now that vpn is causing the problem, i just don't understand why...***

Mmh, strange.

Perhaps try reinstalling/updating the soundcard drivers.

What are your settings under Prefs (Ctrl+P) > Playback?

I'm not aware of any known conflicts with the software you mentioned...

i've tried reinstalling soundcard drivers. from other forums, they say vpn has a common history of incompatibilities with various programs. they just suggested waiting for a newer version.

Audio
X - allow surround sound
X - use dither
(everything else is unchecked)

i know for sure now that only when vpn is on, i can't play winamp along with other applications with sound because the winamp audio will die out until the next audio track.

i think directsound is the culprit

thanks for trying to help siebe, i can live just not listening to winamp when i'm using vpn but it'd be awesome to fix the problem.

i've tried this with various versions of winamp 5.X so i'm sure this is probably cisco's fault but perhaps it's a plugin being conflicted?

A quick search on these forums turned up this post...

Does the problem persist if you disable all fading options in DirectSound output config?
(i.e. select the various 'events' at the Fading tab and uncheck 'Enabled')

the last guy on that link chuckb2006 has the exact problem i am experiencing, these guys all have cisco VPN installed as well.

problem presists even after disabling fading in directsound.

*note* after my sound channel got disabled, i checked my task manager and my cpu usage when from the usual 02 to 34.

I have the same problem (Cisco VPN + Winamp = No sound after a minute or so of working).

Any solution anyone might have found would be greatly appreciated, as I don't want to have to resort to using WMP.

Have you tried contacting Cisco Systems?

Which version of the Cisco VPN client are you using?

When using VPN client version 4.8.1 on a Windows PC on certain Dell desktops, during the VPN session, sound from the sound card Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio cannot be heard. This does not happen with Dell laptops using a different sound card.
