Why Did Winamp Die?
I am the only one of my friends who still use Winamp. Everyone makes fun of me because of it. Why did winamp die?

It's not dead, but ripping CDs and maintaining ur own files is not as popular as streaming say on spotify.
I think shoutcast can save them all, but it needs a strategy and more effort. PENN STATE Radio or http://www.LION-Radio.org/ -- BUG #1 = Winamp skips short tracks Wish #1 = Multiple Column Sorting Wish #2 = Add TCMP/Compilation editing |

Sounds like you need new friends, not a new music player.

This was the same argument I'd hear about those still using Firefox, everyone would say they were on Chrome and couldn't understand why anyone would even consider the old dinosaurs. To me, Firefox always remained superior (that is until Quantum) so it didn't matter what anyone else liked.
It turns out it does matter, at least with browsers since it's all about market share. I don't know what Winamp's is but with the release of 5.8 it's as good as ever to keep it competitive with VLC and the others. |

xD
I mean: ROTFL I am using ACDSee 3.1 from 2000. Why? Because it works, it is fast and can deal with multiple file formats. I tried switching to other graphic file viewers around 2010- but gave up It only misses one vital feature: an ability to temporarily rotate an image [and remember that rotation until the closing]. Also in recent years it sometimes crashes- but I can handle it |

Not dead, it just needs to evolve with the current scenario.

Yeah winamp is declining but I still prefer this player over other players out there.

This is a great write up. I have a group of friends that gets together probably once every other month, but we usually default to the Jackbox games (so even significant others who are non-gamers can get into it), so these are good ones to keep in mind.

"Winamp users really are everywhere. ... But everybody 'knows' that Winamp is dead, that we don't work on it any more. This is not the case." Either way, the official Winamp 5.8 is expected to be out on October 18, and the 5.666 release (along with various skins and plugins) can still be had at winamp.com
