Tricky... as the absence of sound is still sound.. kind of. So how would Winamp know if the silence was intentional or not?

I am guessing you are thinking about those "hidden" tracks tucked onto the end of some CDs with a huge blank space before the track comes back. It shouldn't be too hard to do a forward search for the next audio... Someone would need to make you a custom plug-in of some form.

OR... if you are talking about silence at the start and end of tracks... there is an option in the Preferences.

Preferences \ Plugins \ Output \ Nullsoft Direct Sound Output.

Press the <Configure> button

Look at the "Other" page

Try that "remove silence at beginning \ end of track" option. You will need to tweak the db so you are not chopping off fadouts.

Corrupt MP3s - I don't know of anything in Winamp. Unless there is some old plugin.

How many corrupt files have you got? Are these broken downloads as I know P2P can leave odd gaps in files if not completed to 100%.

Try this: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

(Note the instructions on how to download the separate add-ons to handle MP3)

Audacity is a great little FREE audio editor. It will handle MP3 files as well. You should be able to clean tracks up with that. Even if you are a little brutal and just chop out the silent bits. Or if feeling adventurous, you could do a bit of "cut and pasting" to fill those silent bits.
