Winamp 5 666 Released Build 3516
hm, I had to re-install windows, and now I am running IIS5.1 instead of Apache had to use IIS anyway because of Phalanger, and both WinAmp and fb2k play the vorbis stream flawlessly. The drawback is that transcoding does not stop before the whole file is done, even if I press stop on the media player, any idea what might cause this?

Hi Guys,
I'm trying to convert some FLAC files to MP3, but I noticed the disk writer plugin in this version requires pro for this. Am I really forced to install 2.81 to get these features back? Since I can't even buy a pro key? |

there are way better free FLAC to mp3 utilities out there than winamp.

I'm one of the bazillion who've been using Winamp for ever, like back into the 90s. Nothing even compares to Winamp. Ver 5.666 build 3516 works like a charm, for me at least. No issues whatsoever. Now in my weekly quick-scan of the US-CERT vuln listing I see that the NIST has issued CVE-2017-10725 stating that "Winamp 5.666 Build 3516(x86) allows attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service via a crafted .flv file, related to "Data from Faulting Address controls Code Flow..." Mitre is listed as having found it. I'm going to still use Winamp, but I don't like leaving processes running that should be patched.
- Now would be a great time for the new owners of the Winamp code to get their lawyers to do what needs to be done to breath some life into Winamp and at least patch this vuln. Having read through several threads in this forum, and finding other content elsewhere, I can see there are many of us longtime users who would really appreciate it, but have pretty much given up hope of anything coming of it. But, hey one can hope, right? - So, how about it? Any word of any movement toward some work on Winamp? |

Sadly no, and given the increased amount of spam on the forums, it's not looking good in the future.

Three more CVEs for Winamp
BTW, in addition to CVE-2017-10725 (severity = moderate) there are also 3 other CVEs related to Winamp that are still being analyzed for severity:
CVE-2017-10726 - related to "Data from Faulting Address may be used as a return value starting at f263!GetWinamp5SystemComponent+0x0000000000001951." CVE-2017-10727 - related to "Data from Faulting Address controls Branch Selection starting at in_mp3!DeleteAudioDecoder+0x000000000000762f." CVE-2017-10728 - related to "Error Code (0xe06d7363) starting at wow64!Wow64NotifyDebugger+0x000000000000001d." |

I use Windows 7 with Winamp, it works just like a charm for me. I do have one question though. Will the Skin Browser still work though?

Skins for Winamp still available via Internet Archive
Quote:
.. however, thank the internet gods, for Internet Archive with its Wayback machine can save you. https://web.archive.org/web/20140128...p.com:80/skins That's 2014-Jan-28, and the last working date there where skins were recorded. That date and earlier have many of the skins active and available. PetaBytes of data collected in Wayback .. This is for ALL of 2014, but remember if its after Jan 28th most like get a "Not Found / URL doesn't exist".. as you look backwards via the YEAR view, larger circles mean more was archived and hit that day. https://web.archive.org/web/20140101...p.com:80/skins Feast well you skin hunters! (for bonus kudos, and the laugh of the century, check out how my countries' idiots ala 1950's tried to tell us that clean yards, painted houses, fences, and plastic covered sofa's could help us survive a f*kball nuclear blast ... Search at archive.org for "House in Middle" top 5 results should be 4 copies of it .. it was done by the National Paint, Varnish and Lacquer Association" - stupidity of the scale we have today, didn't start *today* - lol) |

Back to the topic: Apple has announced thats x86 support will be dropped soon. If Microsoft does it also for Windows, that would be the end for Winamp. I think it is not done with a simply re-compile for x64. I think it is not wrong to say the 5.666 successor is vaporware now. As I read in some statements over the years, Radionomy does not have proficient programmers. That's probably why they don't have anyone who could manage the code as a open source project. I don't like to say it but I believe Winamp is not in the right hands with Radionomy. Its an option to ask Mr. Frankel? |

I doubt Microsoft will drop 32-bit apps any time soon. Apple always had a more stranglehold on it's users and ecosystem so they could easily make the switch but Windows is too relied on for businesses, which is why I can run the same programs as I could from the 90s (try doing that with their latest MacOS).
I would love JF to take back control of Winamp, but Radionomy wouldn't give it up and I think JF s more focused on his other projects. It saddens me that Winamp has basically died. I wrote two plugins to solve issues that are basically still not available on other platforms such as VLC. Add to that Tomass' DSP plugins and the SqrSoft Advanced Crossfading plugins and I have yet to find a fully featured player. My primary player for streams and "one-off's" is VLC but when I want to play a large library of music, I still snaptube telegram web vidmate go to Winamp.

I know. I still use Winamp for all my music playing needs. I even still use an iPod for my car, which I keep up to date with my favourite playlists with Winamp. I hate all the splashy huge apps people use these days. Small and does its job, that's Winamp and it does virtually anything I ever want to do when it comes to music. ![]() Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit Winamp Pro 5.8 Build 3660(x86) |

I realize these threads are old, but v.5666 is not the most recent. I've been using WinAmp SA v.5.8 Build 3660 (x86) - October 19 2018 for over a year now. If anyone has a newer build please let me know. I'd very much like to have the latest if available.

The best you can do is to transition over to WACUP, which basically fixes a number of issues and adds some new features as well, don't install over your 5.8 installation, it's not supported.
