Need Assistance Writing A Custom View

I have a large collection (9TB). A lot of bands have multiple albums. For example, one band has approximately 93 recordings, whereas another band (that I may enjoy more, has 2 or 3)

I want to have all my music rated. But I'm having trouble narrowing it down.

I can easily create a view to play only unrated music but there will be times when that band, or some other band, gets more "airtime" so to speak. They could get played 3 times in a row when I'm not currently in the mood. Or they might get played every few songs.

I've dug through the documentation but can't seem to find out how to do what I want.

I would like to have a view consist of all unrated songs, but also have it so that the "Artist" or "Album" artist hasn't been played in x amount of time. Be it an hour, 24 hours, a month etc.

I hope I'm being clear and I hope it isn't right in front of my face! But if anyone could help me out with this I would really appreciate it.

I'll even pimp ya on my blog!

i think i know what you mean, but i don't think winamp does it. ur looking for what in radio we call "artist separation"

make sure you are saving your ratings to tags.

Does simply rating them in the File Information area (where album art is, artist, title, genre, etc etc) save them to their respective tags?

you have to enable saving ratings in prefs > ML > Library options tab, and it doesn't work for non-id3/vorbis tags.

i thought this had been clarified before, the writing option does write to things other than ID3v2.x tags (obviously not ID3v1.x as that doesn't support it), it's just for m4a files from the common types that don't have the support currently.

OK, so is rating them through the Winamp interface sufficient? I about to transfer all my music from my work laptop (where I do most of my listening) to my home desktop where things are not the same at all.

I plan on using the Winamp Backup Tool in hopes it will carry over the ratings...but do I actually need to view each individual file's properties window and enter the rating there as well?

i'm not sure what you don't understand? in winamp, it doesn't matter where u rate the song, it will enter the rating in the winamp DB. if you also want the rating in the tag for files that support that, you need to adjust the option to prefs i mentioned. if you rated stuff PRIOR to setting that option, then "re-rate" everything (sort the ratings column, and do it in chunks).

the backup tool should be able to keep your ratings, as long as the filepath for the songs doesn't change, (if you aren't saving to tags).
