need help with Audacity

When I try to record from the Stereo Mixer Input, all I get is some loud sound. Anybody know what could be going on with this?

I can record from other inputs but I kinda want to record from the Stereo Mixer Input. I've already taken a look at the Audacity FAQ, it didn't help. I'm also not finding much in the Audacity forums either, still looking around though.

Here's a sample of what Audacity records when the "record" button is pressed. This is with the "Stereo Mixer Input".

Sounds like somethings amuck in your sound card\system.

I usually record from line in because i have my mixer with my mics and stuff plugged into it, when i swich over to stereo mix i still get a song or whatever i was playing on my pc, so it has to be on your end. What version tho, beta or the stable?

I have the stable version. I actually got it to work for a while yesterday, but it stopped working again after I restarted my computer.

That sound is feedback. I think you are mixing the system mixer output back into the recording input.

This has happened to me before and the answer is in the mixer settings. To listen to what you are "recording" from the system mixer, you will need headphones, because the speakers will feed back into the microphone. Thats usually a little less pronounced than your recording, but it's either one or the other. It's the same problem either way.... feedback...

It could be because you are recording the system mixer output and some other source too.

That's software feedback, hardware feedback isn't so perfect.

I don't have a mic. I know it's something in the software somewhere. I just don't know where to look. I also found that the same thing happens when I try to record with Sound Recorder. I'm thinking it's my sound card in some way. In case it makes a difference, I have an Aureal Vortex 2(8830 chipset).

Try uninstalling all your audio drivers. ALL your audio drivers, and reinstalling only the ones you need.

How do I do that? I only installed what was installed during the XP install process(I re-installed XP a couple weeks ago). The only thing I've installed for the sound card is the Aureal Vortex Control Panel deally.

I think audacity can help you. It's one of the best sound editor on android, I guess that many are using that app. Audacity guides also help you to find what's the app are applicable on your recording session.
