WAV files in mono don't work

If I try to play those files

http://www.palantir.net/2001/tma1/wav/daisy.wav
or
http://www.palantir.net/2001/tma1/wav/goodbye.wav

winamp apears to work fine but there is no sound coming out.

If I try to play those files in another player it works fine.

I have noticed that those WAV files are mono and that any other files like mp3, midi, or event stereo WAV files are working fine.

I have a pro registered version 5.541 x86 running on Windows XP SP3 32 bits.

Cannot reproduce. Both those examples work fine, they are just quiet.

For anyone else who wants the files but gets a 403 error, go here and then get daisy.wav and goodbye.wav

Hello J_Darnley,

Why are you saying you cannot reproduce the bug and that both examples work fine if they are quiet?

Also it is only quiet in Winamp not in any other players I have.

Isn't it the purpose of Winamp to play audio files? What I mean by "playing" is not just animating the design of the software, I use Winamp to hear audio files. And to me, the fact I can't hear the sound of those mono WAV files, is a bug. In that case Winamp is not working fine!

Can you explain what you mean when you say you can't reproduce? In fact it seems that you did reproduce...

Hmmm. Both sample files play perfectly ok for me.
They're not quiet either.
'Goodbye' is a fairly loud recording.

Is WAV associated with Nullsoft Waveform Decoder 3.16 (in_wave.dll) and not DirectShow Decoder (in_dshow.dll)?

What are your settings in Prefs -> Playback?

Playback tab: Is "allow 24bit" checkmarked?

ReplayGain tab: Is "Use ReplayGain" checkmarked?
What's the preamp set to (adjustment for files without RG)?
If something like -6.0 dB, try decreasing it to -2.0 dB, or even 0 dB

Are you maybe using a DSP/Effects plugin?

Is DirectSound Output the active Output plugin?

WAV was associated with in_wave.dll. I changed it to in_dshow.dll but still no sound.

"Use ReplayGain" was not checked. I checked it and changed the gain to 0db, but still no sound.

Yes it is.

Note that each time i have tryed a new setting, I tryied both a WAV that was playing well before and a WAV that was not. And each time the one that was working before still work fine and the mono one from the web site was not...

Also each time I have modified a setting I have restarded Winamp...

Finaly I checked that both my right and left speakers were working fine with a basic mp3 and they are.

Hum
