What Did You Have For Dinner?
personally i'm not sure what tonight's dish is called, it's black, it's got eggs and sausage and broccolii and no it's not supposed to be black.

Frozen pizza.
Interesting story to go with this too. Once it was done cooking, I took it out of the oven and a few moments later our carbon monoxide alarm went off. After reseting it a few times and changing the battery thinking it may have been a fluke, we called 911 and were told to evacuate the house immediately. The fire department showed up a few minutes later and found readings of 48 parts per million. We were standing outside on the street for about two hours while they worked to find the source of the problem and to lower the levels in the house. I was afraid to eat my pizza too, but the gas company technician said there was no problem with it (besides it being cold as hell by the time I got to eat it). It sure gave us a good scare, I'm damn thankful for the alarm. Spiral out, my friend. You will find your way back to yourself, we all will. I'll be waiting, and shall see you on the other side... |

Well they're not entirely sure yet. They'll be back tomorrow morning with the gas company tech and a tech from Whirlpool to look at the furnace and the stove to see if they can identify the problem. Right now they've turned off the gas lines and told us to leave our doors and windows open tonight to continue to let fresh air circulate and flush out the carbon monoxide. It's mighty cold in here right now, but that's what blankets are for.

I had supper at work (last night)....Chianti Braised Short Ribs.
Four pieces of short ribs slow cooked in a chianti wine sauce, served with a portabello mushroom risotto and cant leaf vegetables. Total awesomeness. ![]() "It's like saying give a man a Les Paul guitar and he becomes Eric Clapton, and of course that's not true, give a man an amplifier and a synthesizer and he doesn't become...whoever; he doesn't become us." - Roger Waters |

I had In-n-Out last night. Some guy told me earlier that day that even though their visible menu is small, they have a much larger hidden menu, and one of the best things to order off of it is their Animal Fries. Of course, I figured the guy was full of shit, but decided to give it a try and order them. Turns out they really do have a hidden menu, and their Animal Fries are awesome!

Here you go Widdy.
Cut the plums into quarters and remove the stone. Put in a non stick saucepan with a couple of table spoons of sugar(soft brown is good). Do not add any water. Cover and stew over a low heat until you have soft lumps in syrup. I used the small hardish plums with very dark skins, this produces a beautiful rich dark red colour. Put in a deep pie dish and allow to cool a little while you make the topping. Topping is four parts plain flour, three parts sugar(soft brown again) and two parts butter. Rub it all together and you should get something that ends up looking like a pile of rough sawdust. Add a tablespoon of porridge oats and if you've got some crushed nuts you can throw them in as well(don't you dare say anything Chev). If it's got a bit dry at this stage then rub in a little more butter, but don't make it greasy. Put a bit less than an inch of topping over the plums, sprinkle with sugar and bake in a medium hot oven for half an hour. Don't get it too hot or the syrup will bubble up over the topping and make it soggy. The custard I always get out of a tin, much better than the home made stuff. UJ |

i had a frozen ready made burger patty in bread and ketchup and a packet of instant oatmeal. gave me a stomach ache the stuff.
*contemplates throwing away frozen cow food stuffs. im not too huge a fan of potato chips with the exception of this absurdly crispy, like eating glass, cuts your gums and cheaps when you eat them, brand that ive only found at a particular wholesome natural food store that i rarely go to. those are worth the subsequent stitches. |

Chinese orange beef.
The sauce I made for it did not have quite enough orange kick. I need to figure out how to fix that. Marinated the beef in OJ for about 10 hours ... at least the beef tasted orange. Also, should have mode some sort of a tempura batter to coat the beef in and then pan sear in a wok. Instead, I just seared in a wok ... Bah, it was good, just not good enough. Tonight I will probably make chicken tikka masala, or some seared yellow fin, if I can find the yellow fin .... though a nice london broil sounds appealing as well. Maybe I dunno what I will make tonight after all. |
