1. The new Winamp for Android app v0.9.2 is available on the Android Market.

2. Re: New 'Devices' view: To return to old Portables view, delete plugins\ml_devices.dll & system\devices.w5s (ml_pmp & pmp_*.dll plugins are still required)

3. Direct mousewheel support means you can now scroll ML panes etc without having to focus them first. Winamp still needs to be focused though...

4. The new option to 'Save ratings to file' can be found via: Winamp -> Prefs -> Media Library -> Library Options tab.
We are using the WMP-compatible standards for mp3 & wma (mp4/m4a to come later), and the vorbis standard for ogg & flac for writing ratings to tags.
If no ML present, user is prompted to save ratings to file & will not be prompted again (winamp.ini settings = noml_ratings=0/1 & noml_ratings_prompt=0/1)

5. Lang Packs

The Chinese & Korean langpacks have not been updated for this release. Sorry :-(

The Spanish, Italian, Dutch & Swedish langpacks have been partially updated. We welcome offers from anyone who can help with translations.

All other lang packs have been updated.

and installer size would just be too big if they were all included.

Re: Winamp for Android app:
At some point in the future, we plan to implement our own metadata / database / album art management as (in our opinion) there's some limitations in the built-in Android API's, and also because albumart handling varies for different devices. Note that requests for things like an EQ would require us to also write our own media engine. However, please use the WinampForAndroid forum to discuss these & other issues further. Thanks.

Winamp Version Check for Essentials Pack & Color Editor:

- Minimum Winamp version for installation is Winamp 5.6
- Installer provides a message and will abort, if minimum Winamp version isn't installed on the system
- if Winamp couldn't be detected on the system in general, installer provides an info message and will abort

Localization:

i'm happy to see some of my bugs actually fixed... bookmarks, id3/ape, sort arrows in ML, and of course official implementation of using ratings. i very much appreciate that users can impact development. thx! its really fantastic!

some questions:

i see that FLAC/VORBIS comments use "RATING" as the field name for ratings, which is very sensible. however, in the notes you say:

also, can some official documentation be added to the wiki regarding the 'prefs>ml>appearance>ratings column appearance' options please? to call it cryptic is putting it mildly.

also, running multiple instances still seems problematic, and some other issues persist:

Since upgrading to desktop beta 5.6 and droid beta 0.9.2, Winamp doesn't read my phone as a device. I downloaded both for wifi connectivity but couldn't get it working but Winamp desktop recognized my phone as a device when connected using USB. I've reinstalled the desktop and phone app with previous versions but still unable to read device. Any suggestions how to fix?

I downloaded both for wifi connectivity but couldn't get it working but Winamp desktop recognized my phone as a device when connected using USB. I've reinstalled the desktop and phone app with previous versions but still unable to read device. Any suggestions how to fix?

I had the same problem see below for my solution (i've an HTC Desire) and let's see if we can sort it out better. I've got it sorted with 5.581, and I think i've got it sorted for 5.6 (for my phone usign a USB Cable).

Winamp & Android/HTC phones don't work together well enough at moment (techies please help).

Figured out the problem. Somehow my winamp.ini usb blacklistnum got set to 1. Midway down the forum link below gives more information. Still not able to connect using wifi but at least Winamp reads my phone again.

Looks like your %ProgramFiles%\Winamp\whatsnew.txt file has been replaced by Geiss' version.
Use 7-Zip to extract whatsnew.txt from the Winamp 5.6 installer (it's in the "[0]" subfolder).

Sounds like Winamp is detecting your Droid as a USB device instead of Android.
There shouldn't be any pmp_usb.ini in the \Winamp (or root) folder of the sd card.

Close Winamp
Create a new "Android" folder in the root of the sd card, eg. X:\Android
Reopen Winamp
It should now detect the phone as an Android device
and you'll get the 'manage' prompt again.

You'll then see an X:\Winamp\pmp_android.ini file on your sd card
(winamp_metadata.dat & .idx files will also be created in there)

For future reference, you don't need to manually edit the [pmp_usb] or [pmp_android] section of %AppData\Winamp\winamp.ini
You can just go to: Winamp -> Prefs -> Plugins -> Portables -> pmp_usb.dll or pmp_android.dll -> config,
select the relevant drive letter from the drop-down list, and click "Un-Blacklist Drive"
(naturally, the device needs to be connected at the time).

is it really that cryptic? what it says is what it does for the options though it was only ever really designed as an internal thing for testing the rating controls different actions but was noticed by the localisers so ended up getting put into a more accessible position. really unless you dislike how the star rating works then there's no need to worry about it. plus there shouldn't be anything from stopping you making a wiki page for it (unless access is limited to it again).

Just want to say that using it for a day, and so far it's great... I really like it.

Only headache is that it takes 60-90secs for my android phone (HTC desire with 32GB card) to appear under the "Devices" icon (and there is no "loading..." icon in the meantime).

I've never used ml_ipod. Is there a conflict if both ml_ipod & pmp_ipod are present?
Or does ml_ipod override & disable pmp_ipod?

Wouldn't it make more sense for the user to just uncheck iPod Support in the Installer Options if using ml_ipod?

This is new installer behavior, since I usually update pmp_ipod as well, then rename to disable in case I want to fool around with it later/see how it's coming along; maybe I'm an outlying case here though. I know for a fact ml_ipod will put up a fuss if you try to run both at once so there's no need for Winamp to do a silent deletion as well. I guess at best it would be nice to have the installer warn, then give the option to choose one, the other, or have both. OR you could just revert to the old behavior and have it not give a rat's ass about ml_ipod.

the ml_ipod + pmp_ipod conflict has been going on for ages and am sure the installer has been removing / disabling ml_ipod for a few years now (just like the ml_ipod installer removed pmp_ipod).

simple option if you want ml_ipod present is to rename it to something slightly different so the Winamp installer won't detect it (though running both at the same time is going to cause more issues in the long run).

Hmm I don't ever recall it doing it before, or I would think I would have already reported it.. seems out of character for me not to have .. but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. *Running* both isn't possible since ml_ipod prevents it; I just wanted both installed. I guess I'll just have to remember to rename it as you say first in the future, Daz. Thanks! 5.6 is quite snappy, really enjoying the direct mousewheel support too!

It only happend to me?

I Really loved the idea for the wifi file sync for my android so I'v downloaded this beta...
everything seemed to work currectly, BUT, jump to file doesn't work anymore.

By doesn't work, I mean that I either click 'J' or click the Jump to file context menu, and nothing happens (no crash or anything, simply ignored)

I'v checked the menus, nothing seems wrong under the J2F stuff :/

my older version (5.20 something i think) J2F was working properly...

What if I told you that now ipod sync is broken again with this latest update? It was working yesterday with some test stuff. But now when I sync I get no music again... However it ejects faster than a rabbitt.

I used the updater that was posted here. I am sorry, I feel like I am being a PITA.

Is the Agent also enabled? (same Prefs page -> maintain file associations)
