Stop spam for good. Please read. This is not spam!

Yeah, Hi again. I was here a while ago, but there seems to be a whole load of new people here now.

Anyway, now that the introductions are over, I would like to announce the start of a project which I am calling the Association for the Stopping of Spam (or ASS) for now.

Basically, you join up by putting a message, along with your idea for a new name, because ASS just sounds dumb, in this thread. When enough of you do so, a wonderful era will commence, where spam will stop.

Or, rather, if enough of you think that it's a good idea, I'll write up an Association Policy, which will detail how we respond to this waste of our time and, er, hard-drive space.

My ideas for the moment are to send a copy of the abusive/unwanted e-mail to abuse@webserver.com and spam@webserver.com (where webserver.com is the server that was used to send the e-mail.) If there is a link in the spam e-mail, then you could click it, and find if it goes to an actual website. If it does, then you could try sending copies of the e-mail to abuse@webserver2.com (et cetera)

In their defense, I can understand why people might think that sending spam is a good idea, but what is a subject line like "ddyynztGet Trrimmmerkaak" going to do for a normal person who doesn't speak whatever stupid language it is that they are using?

Some ISP's already have a spam stopping policy. For example Hotmail asks that users send a copy of the message, with full headers to "abuse@hotmail.com" so that they can take steps to ensure that that particular spammer is put out of business, or something like that. They don't seem to advertise it, though. If you know of an ISP that offers better spam protection than most, you could post it here, too. I like AOL for their attitude to spam. Didn't they sue someone who was spamming their members?

If you think that this (my idea for ASS, or whatever it's going to be called) is a dumb idea, tell me about that, too. I want all the feedback I can get on this.

You might say that there is nothing that you can do to prevent this raging tide, but you could be wrong. If enough of us get annoyed enough about it, we could spam the spammers until they realise that every e-mail they send out will (almost) automatically get them two or three back, so that they will stop annoying us. I think that what I want to say is that we annoy them until they stop annoying us.

Spam must stop. Full Stop. Join ASS now!

I would thank you kindly not to sniff my chicken

what if the spammer serer has no "abuse@" address? I think perhaps "webmaster@" or "admin@" would be more effective
