On upgrades, and as a precautionary measure, it's recommended to make a backup
of your Winamp settings folder (media library database, playlists, etc) before installing.

Unfortunately, this update alone wasn't enough to make FLAC streams work.
It requires additional implementation work - which is earmarked for 5.9.2 (or whatever version comes next).

ml_nft.dll adds an “NFT Library” view in the ML.

It’s currently an empty view with no content.
To display the necessary contents, it would require us to update the internal browser engine in Winamp to e.g. QtWeb/Chromium instead of IE10... which isn’t happening for 5.9.1

When clicked, it opens a page on winamp.com in your default external browser which includes all the instructions.

If you don’t have any music NFTs, and don’t ever intend getting any or using the feature, then you can deselect it in the installer options, or delete the DLL, or uninstall the plugin via Prefs, and that’s the end of it.

If you do have NFT music/videos and want to test the feature, then it supports exporting your NFT library to an m3u8 playlist, importing it into the Winamp ML, streaming playback and physical downloading of mp3, wav, ogg/vorbis, mp4, avi - and downloads of flac, mkv, and other supported formats.

Downloads are handled via dlmgr / ml_downloads, i.e. the same mechanism we use for Podcasts.

The “download” feature also supports any other remote links to files in ml playlists, but obviously not radio streams (although the “download” context menu item is currently not grayed-out for streams, which will be addressed at a later stage).

I hope you're doing well.

I've been testing the new Winamp on Windows 11 (version listed in my signature below) with a few old 3rd party plug-ins. Winamp v5.9.0.9999 worked very well with occasional hangs during session shutdowns. I had no issues running modern skins and all the plug-ins I'm using also worked without any issues.

I have seen an issue with the current version 5.9.1,10021. I have my music files stored on the same drive as Winamp (C:\). When starting (and ending) a session the file folder locations were striped from the file names in the winamp.m3u and winamp.m3u8 files. This caused the songs listed in the Playlist Editor to not be found when starting a new session (with songs played in the previous session).

I copied my music files to another drive and rebuilt the media library. This allows the current version to work normally (with my modern skins and 3rd party plug-ins.)

I recall skimming a post from someone with an issue with the previous version when their media files were on the same drive as the app. I didn't have an issue with my music files on the same drive, so I didn't follow up on that post and the resolution, if any.

I've had the file info window set to equalizer for several minutes and have not seen the Winamp logo appear on it. Oddly, I also couldn't bring up any internet radio with either .m3u or .pls. I found my associations were borked and had to reset them. After that, they worked as expected.

The winamp.m3u(8) relative path issue was reported with an earlier internal beta build, and was supposed to be fixed.

We've just found some other occurences of that same code which could cause the issue, so all being well it will be fixed for RC2, coming soon.

Could you let me know which specific old plugin(s) might be calling/writing to legacy winamp.m3u, so I can confirm the fix?

The Winamp logo appears in the Bento MCV area when there's no files loaded or if the active playlist item is a dead link.

The issue will be related to the "relative path" bug... and hopefully fixed for RC2.

Not sure about the m3u/pls association problem though or how to reproduce it.
I guess that's a Windows thing...?

I can't reproduce it on any of my Desktop computers either. If maybe you could tell me what wcslen is measuring or what gen_ff is doing at the time, or something, maybe I could trace it myself. It's an ASUS VivoBook I recently purchased from Staples so that I could do some lite gaming and work stuff when I'm out on project sites supervising building construction/installs where I stay overnight. Now I use it nearly everyday, mostly for work. It's the best laptop I've ever owned thus far.

I'm using the following eight 3rd party plug-ins. I don't think any of them might be calling/writing to legacy winamp.m3u. I've also disabled all the official portables plug-ins.

the first thing I noticed was that my playlists were FILLED with entries that read "C:\", A LOT of them
I dared double-clicking on one of those entries, all hell broke loose, my HD went nuts and winamp stopped responding, had to kill it in taskman.

Also, special/UNICODE characters are NOT displayed correctly, all I see in their place are "-".

no change from previous version. Actually it's even worse now. In previous versions, only some songs with special or unicode characters were displayed incorrectly, now they are ALL dispayed incorrectly.

(I emptyed the playlists and filled 'em again using "add-->folder" option)

Very likely. I had Winamp 5.666 installed and when I installed 5.9.1, many, but not all associations appeared to switch to it. Yeah, a Windows 11 thing I'm certain. I'm just grateful that the weird issues that have plagued other users of 5.9 have not affected me. So far, all is well with 5.9.1 RC1 and everything appears to be working normally. I use Winamp almost entirely with ML playlists (as opposed to those created by some users in the original Playlist Editor) and they're all working. Podcasts integration appears to have improved - is that a result of the updated OpenSSL?

Egg, i am now using 10021 and the issue i reported in the earlier builds still exists. there are tremendous lags/delays when attempting to manually switch tracks by clicking on them in the ML tracks pane in large smartviews, where the whole results of the smartview are in the scratch playlist area, (i have 90k+ files in a C:\AUDIO\<yada>\ directory structure), which can also prompt a windows error dialog asking the user to wait or close the program.

interestingly, if i simply let the next song automatically play, whether shuffle is on or not, winamp plays it np.

in smaller smartviews, this delay does not happen nearly as easily. i have had it here or there, but not often... same idea when trying to switch other things, like albumartist, as opposed to trying to switch the currently playing track, but again, not as often.

my laptop is a SSD, and win10, on AMD A4-5000, (its a bit older). however, it ran 5.8 fine, meaning none of these issues. i will try on a different laptop, but that one has music on external storage so i don't expect to see a problem there, (unless i've misunderstood?)

i don't see this in the listed known issues?

having said all that, otherwise winamp seems fine, and i can enable or disable jtfe np. (above results are WITHOUT jtfe enabled). love seeing the progress made, hope to see compilation editing in the ML soon. once again, great work!

And it still happens without any of those plugins installed?

I can't reproduce it with JTFE present, but don't use any of the others.
gen_undo manipulates the playlist...

Anyway, RC2 should fix it, coming soon.
I recommend everyone waits another couple of hours - especially if your music is on the same drive as the Winamp settings folder.

I could reproduce a lag when using my highly advanced Advanced Title Formatting string and trying to play large Local Media views, or add them to a new playlist, etc. But not when just using the default ATF string.

You've also got the Prefs => Media Library => Options => "Play search results (start with selected) on dbl click in views" option checkmarked... which means it's adding all contents of that view to the active playlist...

* Note that, if you were experiencing the issue, you *might* need to delete winamp.m3u8 and winamp.m3u from the Winamp settings folder.

I find that if I right-click on a folder and choose 'Play in Winamp' from the context menu, a new instance of Winamp is launched, instead of using the instance of Winamp that is already running. I've made sure that the setting 'Allow multiple instances' is already disabled.

Special/unicode characters are still partially incorrect.
I added files (add-->folder) to two playlists and I see "-" instead of the actual song artist - title for some songs.
The "playlist entry" dialog also shows the wrong name, with "?" in place of the unicode characters.

Not ALL songs with special names are displayed incorrectly, some are, some aren't.
So, we're basically back to v 5.90.9999.

I'll try a clean install, removing all ML/PL data and see what happens

i'm not sure which of the two checkboxes controls the behavior of trying to switch tracks in smartview result sets, but yes i have both checked. is that not the default? and should it matter? meaning, should we now just accept this lag/delay if those are checked? again, those were checked afaik under 5.8 when this issue did not exist for me.

some more interesting observations...

i get the lag/delay even when the scratch playlist is empty and its just adding tracks to the playlist as a result of double clicking on a track in the tracks pane.

once the playlist is loaded, if its a lot of entries, i also get the issue as described in previous posts. however, i notice that once the playlist is loaded, with shuffle on or not, i can use the player controls to switch tracks instantly, no lag/delay. this indicates to me some issue between race conditions of smartviews and what happens when u manipulate them, vis a vis the scratch playlist area.

again, i did not see these problems in 5.8

this bug happens in any system compatible and with Winamp 5.9 and 5.9.1.

HTTPS streams fails to play (from m3u files) at first attempt with double click and the following message is visible in the playlist window "(connecting to host)", but if you do another double click then it connects and plays the stream normally.

I've seen this same behavior in both 5.666 and in WACUP, based on 5.666. Is there a possibility this is an issue with Internet Radio (or Shoutcast) or the specific station being connected to?

I just tested this outside of a playlist file, same behavior, at least on Winamp Classic skin manually adding the stream url to the playlist using [Add URL]. First time I tried to play it just sat there saying "connecting to host". Winamp looks like it's still waiting for connection. Stopping it and then playing it again picked up almost right away.

This behavior not exhibited with a SHOUTcast v2 stream with no ssl/tls connection.

The gen_undo plug-in is also working normally. I didn't bother to test it with the previous version.

The winamp.log file in my users data folder says "[5.9.1.10023] [error] The plugin 'ml_nowplaying2.dll' is not found in the "Plugins" folder!".

There isn't a ml_nowplaying2.dll in the Winamp v5.9.1.10023 installer I downloaded.

Hmm, this was supposed to be fixed.

Though there does seem to still be a problem when using that funky "Add Folder" dialog method to add a large folder with lots of subfolders, where some of those subfolders contain albums with unicode folder & filenames.

I can't reproduce it when drag+dropping the same large folder from Windows Explorer into a new ML playlist,
or when using the "Send To" menu in pledit or Local Media views.

I've got 150k music files, mostly mp3, some flac, ogg, m4a & other.

None of them are on my C: drive.


For my main Winamp install, the same one I've used for many years...
I don't have either of the "play all (start with selected)" options checkmarked.
All my music is loaded in the active playlist / playlist editor window (what I guess you're referring to as "scratch" playlist?)

I can reproduce a lag in the ML when using my highly advanced & long ATF string, but not with the default.

I've also got separate installations of 5.8.1 internal - and latest 5.9.x internal dev output build.

I'll create a new shortcut/switch for my main install to run a /NEW instance and save settings/mldb/playlists/etc. to a different folder via the /INIDIR= switch, and will then run some tests...

Though for the record, the other devs said they can't reproduce any lags with those "play all results" options checked
(TH tried with around 100k items on a pretty fast & new pc).

Dragging folders from windows explorer seems to work (albeit with still a few songs displayed incorrectly).
There's an improvement using this method: now only accented spanish letters are affected, such as Aterrizaje Forzoso - Sólo Un Sueño, but others like Mötley Crüe - Girls, Girls, Girls, are displayed correctly (they aren't using the add -->folder method, though)
