Track advance on Playlist skips more than one track forwards

Just downloaded and registered 5.03

I'm using it to play MP3 and WMVs, based on playlists.

Bug Whilst listening to the playlist, if I press the ">>" button to advance forwards one track it appears to randomly jump a number of tracks forwards.

Checking, it seems to jump 2,3,4,5,6 tracks forwards, depending on how many times you have prviously pressed it. It wraps around at the end of the playlist back to 1.

Audio otherwise plays fine.

System spec:

Dual PIII-750 CPUS, Asus P3C-D board.
256MB Ram
Running XP Pro,
Basic Soundblaster PSI audio card (original "Live" ?)

[Edit --> DJ Egg]

And "shuffle" is off, and there's no dead links in the playlist?

btw, you posted in the wrong thread.
This is the "plugins" bug reports thread.
There's a separate thread for Winamp 5.03 Bug Reports

Couple of problems with 'Jump to file extra'

Winamp 5.03 (clean install)
P3 800 256MB RAM
Windows 98 SE
DirectX 8.1
Nvidia GeForce2 GTS

1. 'Stop after current' doesn't work when you have queued tracks.

Queue up two tracks.
Start the first playing.
Select 'Stop after current'.
The second track still plays after the first.
It works fine if there are no queued tracks.

2. When using the Playlist display option to show queue position, the background of the last part of the playlist entry (the part affected by the display string, i.e. [1]3:40) is always in the colour of the selected playlist row, not the colour of the playlist background.

This happens in both the Winamp Classic and Winamp Modern skins.

Might just be caused by the fact that I am still using an archaic OS. It's not the end of the world, but I thought I would mention it.

[edit DrO]
#1) just checked and my dev version isn't as bad but it will advance to the next in the queue but not play it now -> will work on it
#2) intended behaviour so it stands out in the playlist but will add a quick hack to customise it

Unicode tags read incorrectly

I've already posted this in the Bug Reports thread, but now I realize that was not the right place.

The mp3 and mp4 input plugins do not read Unicode ID3v2 tags correctly. It seems they just take the lower-order bytes instead of translating them via WideCharToMultiByte.

This works fine with lower-ASCII-only tags, but messes up cyrillic and other international characters.

Unable to play video.

Whenever I attempt to play any sort of video file (*.avi; *.mpg; *.mpeg; *.wmv) Winamp crashes. This is obviously bad. It has actually played an avi, once, and that worked fine. So, it's not the codecs' fault. It's DirectSound or something related to that.

--

Winamp Build: 5.3
Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP1
AMD Athalon 2100+ XP
1.73 GHz
512 MB of RAM
ATI ALL-IN-WONDER 8500DV driver ver. 6.14.10.6436
nVIDIA NForce built in to ASUS a7n8x deluxe motherboard
DirectX ver: 9.0b
out_ds.dll ver. 2.2.10

--

Windows Error says:
Faulting application winamp.exe, version 5.0.0.3, faulting module out_ds.dll, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00003162.
And it's always paired with:
Fault bucket 94642066.

And...this makes me sad.

[edit]
I seem to have managed to make it give me another error message! Go me!

What's the details of the crash? (full error message).
Can you upload one of these files (zipped) to some webspace somewhere and provide a link?

Video Overlay Issues

Sorry if this is an already addressed issue, or if it is not welcome, but I have been wading through the forums for half an hour without much help. There's way too many posts and threads to sit here all day going through them all, even when using the search feature. I guess winamp should be proud it is so popular.

Sys specs:
- Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 1 (2600.xpsp1.020828-1920)
- Winamp 5.03a (Clean install)
- GeForce FX 5200 w/ Detonator 6.14.0010.5303 (latest afaik) 128.0 MB 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (85Hz)
- HYUNDAI ImageQuest V770+ and NEC 13" TV
- SB Live! 5.1 Digital w/ 5.12.2.252 drivers
- AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.7GHz
- 512 mb RAM
- Play TV HD cx288x TV Tuner w/ MK3 drivers
- DirectX 9.0b (4.09.0000.0902) previous 8.0 (XP Home default)
- VIA Technologies, Inc., KM266-8235, Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG

I have had this problem for a long time (as long as I can remember) even with the old 2.x series (although now the video and vis is integrated it is slightly a different problem).

I use AVS and Winamp Video, ALOT. AVS is always running, but I have music videos in my playlist as well, which I play almost as much as normal music. My problem is, no matter what, AVS and Video always fight over the overlay device. AVS seems to never want to give it up (whether autoexecute plugin on start is enabled or not), the result is when I play a video, the overlay won't go fullscreen on my TV, the AVS stops, and the Video shows in the video window, but I can't seem to find any way of fixing the fullscreen overlay problem (updating drivers doesn't help).

What I believe should happen; When you play a Video stream, AVS should quietly and nicely go away (when sharing the same window) until it is ready to display the vis again (when I start playing regular audio again).

I would appreciate any help anyone could give us, as our life almost revolves around watching AVS and video though winamp (sad but true, that's just how good winamp is). I hope I have provided you with more than enough information, and should any wish to work along side me to rectify this problem (be it because they just want to help, or because they want to fix the plugin(s) and don't have the necessary hardware), I will provide my full support.

Total Winamp crash when switching ogm audio streams

How to crash winamp in a few easy steps:

1. Play an OGM file with multiple audio streams
2. Using the thing that appears in the system tray (comes with OggDS), switch to another audio stream.
3. Watch Winamp crash, cry for a few hours, then pull yourself back together and try again.

Hmm, even more updates. Done.

They still get along like a married couple

I believe that AVS/Winamp Video aren't releasing the overlay fast enough for the next to grab it. Is there a remedy for this?

I adore fullscreen overlay on my TV and I would like to get this to behave so that it will fullscreen without my intervention, my pc is my home theatre. Winamp is music, video, internet radio, and tv. They all fight over it. It's not listed as a known issue by NVIDIA, are other people with other hardware configs experiencing this problem too?

I have Winamp v 5.03
pentium4, 2.4 GHz
512MB Ram
Radeon 9700 Pro
Creative SB Live! Series
Windows XP
WinAmp v5.03

I just re-installed XP on my computer, downloaded and installed winamp. It worked fine the first time I used it. I would double click on a song, it would play, then I would close winamp. After the first time using it, and this is the 3rd install, whatever song I try to play second will play, but I will get the error that 'Winamp has incountered a problem and needs to close'. Thats all it says, besides saying that it would like me to send an error report. The music will still play, I can hear it right now, but the program itself looks like it is locked up and when I click either send or dont send, winamp closes/crashes. The types of files that I am trying to play are WMA's or MP3's... Is there any fix to this yet or is my problem unique? Thanks for the help...

DoA®

[Edit --> DJ Egg]

Please install the latest wa5update patch.
This includes the latest in_wm.dll which will fix your problem.
Note: always read stickys first before posting.
Thank you.

Here are two bugs with "Jump To File Extra v0.94te" plugin:

Winamp v5.03a
Windows XP + SP1,
Intel Pentium3 800MHz, 256MB RAM
ATI Radeon 9000 (Driver updated before posting)
Creative SBLive!Value (Original driver from CD)
DirectX 9.0b
Jump To File Extra v0.94te

First of all i want to mention that there is no gen_nomad.dll on my PC and i don't even have PlayCenter (or whatever it is called) instaled.

bug #1 is very simple:
when i open jump dialog box (by hiting 'J'), or queue list in Preferences. There is RightClick Menu option "Load playlist into queue", but it doesn't work! Evry time i try to use this option - the window (Jump or Preferences Box) just flashes a few time and nothing hapens.
Saving the list works fine.

bug #2 is a little more complex:
when the feature mentioned above didn't work for me, i tryed to use antoher... i went to:
"Preferences=>Jump To File=>Enqueue Options" and i checked "Load the specified playlist as the queue on startup" and pointed the "Open" dialog box to the playlist with my favorite songs. And the next time i tryed to start Winamp it crashes.
OR sometimes it starts, but the songs loaded in queue are not the ones that was in .m3u file. Error message that pops up in the first case - "Unhandled exception at 0x0123a180 (gen_jumpex.dll) in winamp.exe: 0xC00000FD: Stack overflow."

Hope you'll fix it.

[theRat]: both issues are fixed in the current dev build i have. #1 was due to a buffer not being set correctly. #2 was down to some dodgy code in the playlist loading that has been re-done and works a treat now

I think it's a bug with modern skins.
This bug doesn't make Winamp crash, but it's annoying...

The preferences box (ctrl-p) is normally just a box. So it won't stay on top when clicking for instance the playlist. But when the main window in shade is docked AND always on top in the docking prefs is enabled, the preferences box will always be on top.
If you want to reproduce, be sure the overall always on top is unchecked (ctrl-a).

This is pretty annoying, especially when double-clicking some plugin for configuration: the config box will appear BEHIND the pref box.

To summarize:
1. disable overall Always on Top (ctrl-a)
2. dock the main window (shade)
3. enable Always on Top under Window Settings -> Docked Toolbar
4. open preferences (ctrl-p)

WA 5.03a
Windows XP SP1

[Edit --> DJ Egg]

Can't reproduce this with latest internal build,
so assume it is fixed...

File Writer plugin bug?

When I use the file writer plugin and want to play a audio Shoutcast stream, it displays a dialog box saying cannot write to file. If you ignore that dialog box and switch right back to the winamp main window and click on play again, then whole winamp will freeze.

I'm not sure if this is a plug in bug for the file writer plug in, or a general Winamp bug.

Here's my system:
WinXP Pro
Winamp 5.03a full
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
MB: MSI K8T Neo
ATI Raedon 9800 pro
Sound Blaster Audigy 2

Media Library Plugin Crash in gen_ml

Computer: P4 2.4Ghz, Intel MB, 1024MB
OS: Win XP SP1, all critical updates installed
Winamp: 5.03a plus update collection

This is my first install of Winamp. The
program works fine until I try to change
categories in the media library (to "Audio",
say). There is a delay switching and
sometimes I can even switch one more time.

Then, always, Winamp crashes.

On launch after crash, the last category
chosen will be selected. The audio library
panes work fine for selecting artists/albums/
tracks until I click on the category selector.

I have uninstalled and re-installed twice
and tried it both with and without initial
media library scanning. Always the same
problem.

Error signature:

in_dshow.dll is unable to play audio files only (.ac3 for example)
Design behavior or bug?

[Edit --> DJ Egg]

Can't reproduce it here.
I've been using in_dshow to play .AC3 files ever since 2.90
and it still works fine in 5.03
Using AC3 Filter from here | (more info)

Unregistered the nVidia AC3 decoder, works fine with InterVideo one
The lenght isn't reported
When changing settings in the filter, it doesn't seem to save
Seeking is also broken (playback goes slow)

Testing the OS filter you posted...

Edit: Lenght is displayed correctly in the playlist, settings are still not saved
Seeking works though

DSP plugin stop functioning on wma and ogg files

Winamp 5.03 is bypassing the dsp plugins(i use Izotope Ozone 1.0.2 or DFX 6.4) when playing wma or ogg files

In my experience, the file formats that processed by dsp plugins when playing them are only mp3 and ape(lossless).

This oddity forces me to use Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 again.

This bug definitely must be fixed, then it is

My System conf:
- Epox 8rda+ mobo
- 512mb ddr pc2700
- Athlon XP2400+ cpu
- Ati 9600xp 128mb VGA
- 80gb hdd
- Windows XP Pro sp1 OS

[Edit --> DJ Egg]

Can't reproduce.
The only DSP plugin I've got is the included SPS,
and it works fine for both wma and ogg here
(though I'm not sure about drm-protected wma crap).

Minor JTFE Bug

System:
Winamp 5.03 [2004-03-24]
Jump To File Extra v0.94te
Windows XP Professional
AMD Duron 1300MHz, 1024MB RAM, GeForce2Ti, Hercules Game Theater XP

Bug info:
This bug is reproducable.
This bug does not lead to a crash.
This bug does not produce an error message.

Bug description:
Add three files to your playlist:
  • A
  • B
  • A
with the two files named "A" above being the same file (i.e. same drive, path, file name).
Play song "B" and enqueue the song "A" that is located below song "B". After song "B" has finished playing, the JTFE plugin will play the song "A" that is located above song "B". This behavior is wrong and is obviously caused by the fact that physically identical files are added to a play list more than once. The JTFE plugin seems not to be working with playlist indexes but with filenames instead. Regardless of the number of playlist entries for the same file, the plugin always plays the entry with the lowest index on the playlist.

[Edit --> DJ Egg]
Can't reproduce this with the latest internal build, using alt+click method.

[Edit --> DrO]
I'm guessing you're adding files via the playlist probably with the use of the 'q' key.

The reason is due to the way that the selected items are found since there's no direct way to get an entries index for the way that 'q' works. So if there are duplicates of the same file then it will use the first one that it can find. Annoying yes but there's not much i can do about it that i can see at the moment (and this has been like this for over 4 months now i think)

1) 'Enqueue file' command uses the song's playlist index instead of a proper identifier (e.g. index and file name as well). So when you enqueue a song and then change the playlist order (e.g. by deleting a file before the enqueued file), the queue shifts and another song will be played.

2) Winamp does not support CD-Text for audio CD's (it might do . The fields Artist, Album, Year & Genre show nothing or garbage when not using CDDA.

3) Media library does not show CDA tracks on Mixed-mode and Enhanced CD's.

4) From time to time (At least in Windows 98 SE) it happens that the text from internal menus (such as 'Manage Playlists') vanishes. This fault wasn't noticed on Windows XP yet.

5) The key accelerators in menus are not much precise - some items use them, some not, in certain cases one key accelerator coincides with another one (e.g. Main Window/File: 'Play &file' and 'Play &folder').

6) When enabled Repeat and Crossfade functions, and the playlist contains only one very short, file (1 sec or so), the Crossfader iterates and crashes the whole application.

7) The horizontal scrollbar in Media Library is not working properly. When there are so few items listed that the vertical scrollbar is not yet shown, and you enlarge the Media Library window (by dragging its right edge), the horizontal scrollbar vanishes and doesn't reappear when the window is shrunk again. On Windows 98 it even flashed in some cases.

8) In some (?unspecified) cases the column headers in Media Library do not resize smoothly (Maybe when you stretch the rightmost column outside the window, then scroll horizontally to the right border and then drag-resize the rightmost column...)

"Title Formatting" Settings are ignored

I wasn't sure if I should post this in the Winamp 5.03 bug reports, or the plugins report. Since the setting is in the plugin Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder, I'm posting in the plugin bug report threat.

I have Winamp 5.03, this bug was present in 5.01, I updated to 5.03 and it is still there. I have not had this problem in 2.9x.

I have searched the forums as well as I could and I am quite surprised that I have not seen this issue from anyone else.

I have an AMD Athlon Thunderbird processor (1.33 GHz) with 512 GB of RAM. I forget my exact mobo (and don't feel like cracking the case to look for it just for a winamp bug), but it is a VIA chipset.

I have Windows 98SE with all updates installed, except the last, very latest security update which won't install 'cause of a bug with WindowsUpdate.

I have an ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon card, with the most updated drivers from the ATI site.

I have a Soundblaster Live soundcard. (and I'm sure it's not the problem in this case).

DirectX 9.0b

To reproduce error:
I go to Preferences, Plugins, Input, click on Nullsoft MPEG Decoder 3.0, then click "Configure", click on the Title/Tags tab. I put in the title format I want under Title formatting (when ID3 tag is presnet).

the configuration I'm trying is: %1(%3-%4)-%a:%2

but I've tried others (e.g. %1-%3-%2) and have the same bug regardless.

I click on OK, then close. I clear my playlist, then add files. The files in my play list appear in the format

"artist - song name"

every time, regardless of the "title formatting" setting.

[Edit --> DJ Egg]

Not a bug!
Global Title Formatting overrides individual input plugin title formatting.
Prefs > Titles > Advanced Title Formatting:
Edit or disable accordingly.

Bug Report

Well, I'm not sure whether this belongs here or not since it involves 3rd party plugins, but I don't quite think they're the source of the problem, so here goes...
When I have a lot of input plugins loaded (enough to nearly fill the display box in Preferences when in 1024x768 resolution), I come across a minor problem. When I click "Add files..." and I leave it on the default ("Supported Formats"), items near the bottom of the list of supported formats don't show up in the window where you choose which file(s) to load. So I have to scroll down the list to the specific type for it to show up in the window. And since I can't get WinAmp to default to "All files", I have to scroll down the list every time I want to add files with formats near the bottom of the list. There doesn't seem to be a magic number of input plugins when it does this. It just happens when I load most or all of my input plugins. It doesn't seem to be system-dependent, and it's pointless to give system specs, since I changed all of them during the course of time that this has been happening to me. The only constant has been that I'm using Windows 98SE. This happened with the 2.9x versions of WinAmp, too.

[Edit --> DJ Egg]

It's a Windows 256-character limitation in Open Files Dialog.
The only other known cause is a bug in Innover's real audio plugin (in_ra.dll).

Both answers hold a problem:
1) I realize there is a 256 character limit, but I don't think this problem involves that. For instance... when I take out the DirectShow plugin (in_dshow.dll), and put in a couple other plugins (like the divx plugin and a couple others), the MP3's show up in the window just fine, and the DirectShow plugin only adds one category to the supported formats with about 5-6 extensions, while adding the divx plugin with a couple others adds many categories with more than 5-6 extensions. It isn't always the DirectShow plugin either. It depends on what combination of plugins I have.

2) I use Tara's RealAudio plugin (in_tara.dll) because it's 10 times better than Innover's real audio plugin (in_ra.dll). But use of that seems to make no difference either. Besides, the problem isn't the same, because all my input plugins are listed on the list in the Open Files dialog box... it's just that the files themselves that have extensions at the bottom of the list, don't show up in the actual window where you select your files.

What I'd really like to do, is be able to move the in_mp3.dll plugin up the list, but it won't let me. If I remove all the input plugins except that one, run WinAmp, then shut it down, delete the configuration files for WinAmp, then reload the plugins and start WinAmp, the in_mp3.dll plugin is still at the bottom of the list. Every once-in-a-while when I try that, one plugin will be under it in the plugin list (like in_dshow.dll or in_adx.dll). Just being able to move up the mp3 plugin on the list would make me happy, because I could have some plugin at the bottom that I don't really use too much instead.

[Edit --> DJ Egg]

Does the problem occur with just the default Winamp input plugins?
We don't support 3rd-party plugins.
Also see here for further tips (bold text).

You have a point with that. There aren't enough official plugins to test it, though. If I only use them, I can see the MP3's in the window, but my thought was that it may have to do with WinAmp not being able to display the files after a certain amount of plugins, whether they're official or not. But if it really has to do with third party plugins, I'll leave it be. I'll try copying and renaming official plugins to make a lot, load them, and see if the problem persists. But regardless of that problem, I'm still curious why, no matter which plugins I use (even official ones), the Nullsoft MP3 plugin always remains at the bottom (even after I completely uninstall, then reinstall WinAmp without adding any plugins). It didn't do that before, but as far as I know (and that computer doesn't have the internet on it), nothing happened to make the plugin stay at the bottom of the list. Any thoughts?

Well... 1) You posted in the Official Plugin Bug Reports thread, so issues with 3rd-party plugins aren't supported (not that they are supported anywhere else either), and 2) I can't reproduce the problem where MP3 is always at the bottom of the list.
