shoutcast refused connection or crashed whenever i get high connections

Hello,

Always got this technical problem while my online radio dj is broadcasting live. Seems like the server refused connection when my listeners reached 300+. It took us a while before we got live again by restarting shoutcast service (sc_serv.conf, sc_trans.conf).. After restart listeners dropped to 0, 50 to 200. But whenever it reached 304 it always refused connection / crashed..

Can you please help me fix to prevent this from happening again? I really dont know what happened but 300+ was our highest listeners but the server seemed to refuse connection.

Can you please check logs, firewall, etc that caused this ?

platform: shoutcast server sc_serv sc_trans
DJ software: Sam broadcaster.

Thanks in advance.

http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?p=2790357#known and point #5.

without an updated DNAS (i don't have any eta as other things keep getting in the way), you'd need to set the DNAS maxuser limit and have another DNAS running as part of a cluster.

and ofcourse, increase ulimit -n to be more than 1024 e.g. ulimit -n 2048

Thanks for the reply

Where to set this? Do you have step by step instruction where to set-up this? Sorry I lack experience in shoutcast setup.

checked shoutcast version on admin page SHOUTcast Server v2.0.0.29/posix(linux x64)

i only want to use one physical server. HOw to achieve this?

Thanks in advance.

set maxuser in the configuration file (i cannot break it down any easier than that).

clone the configuration file, change portbase, run a second instance - one machine, two instances, and as long as listed, they'll be clustered by the YP so it'll hand over to the other DNAS as needed.

ulimit -n is a unix/linux command, you'd need to consult the OS documentation or set what i've said before running the DNAS.

Hello,

Thanks for the reply DrO.

I think i already have unlimited ulimit. ulimit returns:
code:

root@server [/home/rakistascradio/SHOUTcast]# ulimit -a
core file size (blocks, -c) 0
data seg size (kbytes, -d) unlimited
scheduling priority (-e) 0
file size (blocks, -f) unlimited
pending signals (-i) 256445
max locked memory (kbytes, -l) 64
max memory size (kbytes, -m) unlimited
open files (-n) 2048
pipe size (512 bytes, -p) 8
POSIX message queues (bytes, -q) 819200
real-time priority (-r) 0
stack size (kbytes, -s) 10240
cpu time (seconds, -t) unlimited
max user processes (-u) 1024
virtual memory (kbytes, -v) unlimited
file locks (-x) unlimited

My maxuser is already set to =1000. How can i create 2 or more instances in a single machine? How can i relay it? Is that possible? I don't want to add another machine i wont be able to afford it, besides, i already have high specs machine in my server. Can you please review my settings? My current config broadcast one music from sam broadcaster in 32, 64, and 128 kbps. if I reach 300 total listeners of these 3 streams , it crashes or it stops.

I'm very sorry I failed to figure this out on my own. Searched forum and i can't find the answer.

Do i need to duplicate sc_trans only not sc_serve? I wish to setup my shoutcast so it can accommodate 1000 listeners. Im using linux server.

Hope you can still help me. Thanks in advance.

you duplicate the DNAS config as i'd mentioned and update sc_trans to send the streams to it as well i.e. you duplicate more of the config settings and just make sure the correct port is specified as needed.

Hello,

Created sc_serv_2.conf copied from sc_serv.conf.

code:

serverport_1=8080
songhistory=30
password=deleted
adminpassword= deleted
flashpolicyfile=/home/rakistascradio/SHOUTcast/crossdomain.xml
logfile=/home/rakistascradio/SHOUTcast/logs/sc_serv.log
w3clog=/home/rakistascradio/SHOUTcast/logs/sc_w3c.log
banfile=/home/rakistascradio/SHOUTcast/sc_serv.ban
ripfile=/home/rakistascradio/SHOUTcast/sc_serv.rip
requirestreamconfigs=1
maxuser=300
streamid_1=1
streampath_1=/listen.mp3
streamid_2=2
streampath_2=/listen128.mp3
streamid_3=3
streampath_3=/listen32.mp3
publicserver=always
streamauthhash_1=deleted
streamauthhash_2=deleted
streamauthhash_3=deleted
autodumpsourcetime=600

i run ./sc_serv ./sc_serv_2.conf and i got an error port 8000 already in use.

edited sc_trans.conf, please review:

Can you please review my codes above. I read your documentation but still can't make this work.

Also, would this automatically distribute listeners to both sc_serv? My Online Radio Mobile applications and website uses port 8000 only. How about relay?

Thanks in advance.

the sc_trans config is wrong, you need to do the additional ones using _4, _5 and _6 as the config option indexes instead of additional _1, _2 and _3 blocks.

it will automatically move them over only if you have them using the same authhash and both are being listed in the Directory.

you need to recheck the DNAS config file and that you're using the correct one with 8080 as that error indicates that is not the case. also try specifying the full path to the config file instead of a relative one. and responses will come as time allows so can be a day or two before you get a response.

Ok. got the sc_serv_2.conf working now. Your docu says serverport but i changed it to portbase now it works!

Posting all my config files, can you please review if it configured correctly to accept connections of more than 300. Just want to make sure my config works without waiting for my listeners to reach more than 300..

Do I need to exclude or ignore port 8010 and 8011 in my firewall iptables?

Do I need to add the 3 new streams port 8010 in Sam Broadcaster statistics relays window so i can get exact listeners report of Sam Broadcaster?

Thanks in advance.

I got no YP connection to my 2nd sc_serv_2.conf they have the same authash .

error: connection attempt failed. YP2 error code is 480 (cannot see your computer url http://206.190.138.196.8010/listen.mp3)

My first sc_serv works with the same authhash settings. Both sc_serv runs on the same server. Main IP of server is 206.190.138.197 , secondary IP is 206.190.138.196 . sc_serv.conf runs on port 8000 and sc_serv_2.conf runs on port 8010 . I noticed authash is set to secondary ip .196 not 197.

Can you please review? Can you please check. Thanks in advance

you need to ensure port 8010 is forwarded like 8000 seemingly is (neither give me any response at the time reply) i.e. see http://wiki.winamp.com/wiki/SHOUTcas...ll.2FISP_cache. and if you're trying to use destip on the second instance then that also won't work (as i don't follow the primary vs secondary IP aspect you're going on about as there should be no need to anything like that - if there was then i would have said it in the earlier posts).

Hi Dro,

Thanks for the reply. How to check if it is forwarded correctly?

I duplicate the sc_serv to sc_serv_2 like you told me to. I also set the appropriate ports to portbase 8010 of sc_serv_2. Also modified sc_trans to forward streams to both server. Please review my settings from my previous posts and let me know what could be wrong.

This worked before, i already got 456 peaked listeners last week. Got problem in my server so i have to restart the whole server. After server restart, i restarted sc_serv, sc_serv_2 and sc_trans but sc_serv_2 stopped connecting to yp...

Visited rakista.com:8000, and rakista.com:8010, http://206.190.138.197:8000/ http://206.190.138.197:8010/ and they both have the same song so it is forwarded correctly. It just failed to connect to YP, it looks for ip 206.190.138.196:8010.

i set destip = http://206.190.138.197 of sc_serv_2 but still got the same error. yp is still looking for 206.190.138.196 and failed to connect.

What if we renew authash? or update yp ip lookup to 206.190.138.197?

Sorry if I can't figure this out alone, please help me more. Thanks!

destip does not work correctly with the v2 DNAS so you need remove it from the config - it is not needed for what you are doing anyway (and i don't know why you decided to set it when it has not been said to do so and was not in any of the prior configs you'd posted). and it's the use of destip which is causing your issue in the second instance being seen by the Directory.

the authhash works irrespective of the IP address of the DNAS server. it is only if you need to make amendments that it needs to be done on the original machine - and if you want to keep it you need to pm me the details as per the authhash management thread or delete the authhash, make a new one (and also get a new stationid for the listing as a result of that change).

and you need to restart the DNAS instance on port 8000 to correct the display issue on the index/admin pages.

and i really don't follow how you've managed to make this so complicated - copy a config, change one value and update another one, open a port and start a second instance - that's all that was needed, not almost 3 weeks of on/off posts *shrugs*

/me bangs head on desk

have you followed http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....79532#remember ???

if you have then just delete any streamauthhash references in the config files, restart one DNAS instance and make a new one, then copy that into the second instances config and start that.

there's no source connected to either of the DNAS. and when i first looked, they weren't even responding to any requests so either something on your network setup is messing with things or they just weren't running when i tried. without a source connected then i'm not surprised at the error and with that, i'm done for the evening.

i'm probably going to regret doing this but i've sent you a pm with a link to a test build (#105) to try out as part of a single-DNAS setup (like you were using originally).

so you just need to replace the sc_serv with the sc_serv in the archive i pm'd and run it with that and see how it goes. and if you need to change destip then it should work with this build, though you really shouldn't need to as long as you do this against the instance you had originally been running just on port 8000.

Hi DrO,

same problem, when we get more than 300 User, they stop working, so frontend can`t show and we fix it only with restart the shoutcast server. When it get`s over 300 the logs are getting bigger with 5 MB per minutes.

Thanks for fast help
