Shoutcast will play whatever you have scheduled for playing at that time or it reverts to the default playlist which you set in the sc_serv.conf

the DNAS only streams when there are clients connected to it but will keep taking whatever the source is providing to it even if there are no clients at the time. so basically as long as the source is alive then the DNAS will be in a position to provide a stream when a client does finally connect.

as such there is no option needed to be set in the DNAS configuration. what dave is referring to is the playlist / scheduling support in sc_trans so may or may not be off relevance as you've not mentioned what source you're trying to use. then again it doesn't really matter based on the question you've asked.
