Creating playlist from web mp3s

Hey all,

simple question. I have a folder full of static mp3s on a webpage and would like to create a playlist out of them, so that they may be streamed via Winamp from the site directly.

I'm trying to get a "here's a web folder, grab all playable music files from this location and add them to the list" sort of thing, so I don't have to update the playlist by hand each time new music is added. Is this possible?

Thanks in advance

No, Winamp cannot navigate a webpage. If you have sufficient access to the server you could set up a job which will create a playlist.

Thanks! Would that be best done via a cron job, or would a standalone php script suffice for this? Any pointer in the right direction would be handy C:

I'm no nix expert but if a cron job are the ones run at intervals then yes. It would be something along the lines of:
code:
ls -1 *.mp3 > playlist.m3u

I'm sure that something much more imaginative could be done. Perhaps only generate a file if the folder has been altered or maybe on command in a php script.

Well, you want the web address, so more of something like combine "http://monkey.pants/~omfg/music/" with the directory listing output. This sounds like a job for sed. That being said, my Unix skills are lacking, so I doubt I could figure that one out. Or it would be a pretty simple Perl script too.

More processor intensive, but PHP could generate the playlist whenever the link is clicked.
