SmartView: How to read total track number?
Hi there,
I want to add a Smart View for albums ("sort by Album"). What is a album? 1. Its album-tag is not empty, and 2. its total number of tracks is more than 1. So how can I set this up in Smart View? The first argument is no problem. But the second one. I checked out the "Tracks"-tag which I thought would make it. But nothing. It only shows me all tracks, numbered higher than 1, which I actually thought would make the "Tracks #"-tag. Can anybody help? Thanks. |

Ehm... not, it's not that way. Does any mp3-tagging tool write the track#-field like this anyway? Even Winamp doesn't do this that way. So actually this fill is not "correct" ;-)
So is there any other possibility to do this? When I select "Large Details" in Smart View, I can see the total number of tracks. Is there any possibility to get that number? How would you approach that problem? |

Winamp will write fractions to the track number field in the file if the tag supports it, flac will also write it like this. As far as I know only ID3v1 tags are limited to integers only, ID3v2 and vorbis comments allow fractions. If the library has the track number field as a fraction then the tracks search field works correctly (it matches all files where track number denominator matches the search).
The Album Art track count section works whether you have the track number filled 'correctly' or not. It will simply count the number of files which fall under that album heading. It might be useful to get the library to store this count so you can use a tracks search even if you don't have the track number filled 'correctly' Winamp ATF Reference — My cPro timer widget — My port of AVS Do NOT email me with general tech support questions. |

Yes, one or Winamp can fill out the track#-field in fractions but it doesn't that automatically when using the Auto-tagging function, eg. And any other tool doesn't do this as well. Manually I could do this but this is a pain in the ass, as you can imagine.
So I appreciate you last thought for a request :-) |

Yeah I do know it a pain in the arse to do it for one 20 track album. There are some other tagging programs that usually get reccomended on the forums, I think they are The Godfather and MP3 Tag It. I will go look for the links.

Actually I already use Mp3tag and it does not fill out tracks # with fractions. That's why I said, using fractions is more "incorrect" because nothing does it that way by default, even Winamp doesn't.

Winamp's CD Ripper does automatically write tags as eg. 1/10, if you enable that option in Prefs -> CD Ripping -> Output File Settings:
Write track numbers as track/total (e.g. 12/15) The AutoTagger is controlled by whatever's in the online Gracenote database, not by any Winamp code. |

Yes, I use the Auto-Tagger function or better Mp3tag (because it reads from discogs.com), and EAC for ripping CDs. So maybe in future versions it's possible to read that total track number from the ML. :-)
