vdeck.exe conflict high cpu usage (track change lag)

I have a serious problem where switching tracks causes my CPU usage to go to and beyond 100%, causing heavy system lag, as well as momentarily halted playback at times, whenever I play a track (this counts for changing songs and repeating the same track).
For normal playback it's manageable even with games when priority is set to low on winamp.exe and vdeck.exe. For those who don't know vdeck.exe is the VIA HD AudioDeck for configuring the VIA HD audio driver. After a long time of playing with it it seems the only solution is to turn end process vdeck; however, I need this application for it's Acoustic Echo Cancellation(AEC) ability for talking with friends etc so they don't hear my music and games, disabling this isn't really an option.
Changing more than one track without waiting at least 5 seconds in between causes a total system lockup for up to a minute(possibly more if I decided to try and skip dozens). Mouse stops moving and music stutters and/or stops. Once returning to normal operation after mouse lock ups, if you'd tried to do anything while it was frozen it'd make a low "boop" sound. (Same thing happened to me before when a couple plugins conflicted in chrome causing over 100% cpu usage when loading pages.)

summary: playing and switching tracks causes winamp.exe and vdeck.exe to try and horde all cpu time despite priority settings, doing so quickly causes system bog-downs

I've done a lot of looking around and trying things out. The issue is only Winamp conflict with vdeck.exe, the issue does not appear to be plugin related. Other players such as MPC-HC and AIMP don't have this issue however they do not have the functionality I use Winamp for. The issue is consistent with reboots and re-installs and file-type makes no difference.

Listing 3rd-party plugins in order of most likely to be causing the problem:

Advanced mIRC Integration Plug-In v2.67 [gen_irc.dll]
Audioscrobbler Winamp plugin v2, 1, 0, 9 (ML Mode) [ml_wa2_scrobbler.dll]
CUE Player v0.57c [gen_cue.dll]
CUE Player v0.57c [in_cue.dll]

gen_irc.dll is the AMIP now-playing plugin, it only allows me to quick hotkey now playing info to clipboard. ml_wa2_scrobbler.dll being last.fm. These have no issues with any other functions. There is no reason for them to influence an issue which appears to have to do with audio processing (as no other information would logically be going through vdeck). I tried removing them and it was of no help. changing settings for directsound and waveout didn't help either.

Oh, okay. The reason I suspected gen_irc or scrobbler plugins was because they both send out data on track change.
But looking at those other threads, it does seem to be an issue with vdeck (as you say).
I assume you've checked the mobo manufacturer's site for any updated audio drivers?

Have you enabled any of the options in Winamp > Prefs (Ctrl+P) > Playback > Playback tab?
(24bit, surroundsound, dither)
If so, try unchecking them.

There's not really any other relevant settings, especially if it also happens with out_wave
(ie. I could've suggested checking "create primary buffer" & "old-style fade" in out_ds config, and also making sure all fades are off)

Very strange though. Sorry I couldn't help more...

I attempted to disable those and it made no difference. also ther eis no noticable effect on audio quality. it seems almost as if it confuses itself when trying to establish the initial audio pathway, there is also a slightly delayed start on tracks even when focusing on just winamp for a single track playing. delayed starts do not bother me though.

my drivers are up to date (i initially had to manually install the driver to get it in there, but after uninstalling it once to try something it re-installed itself upon boot) i have considered attempting to manually install the realtek drivers as that is what i used to use on this system when i had XP. but it re-installed the via drivers before I could do anything and I haven't tried I again. before I'd manually installed the via drivers i ran perfectly fine with the windows drivers, however using VIA or RealTek was the only way I could get proper AEC without paying atrocious sums of money for specialized applications. (My recommended solution for those with the same issue who do not have the need for the audiodeck to just use the default win7 drivers, if not just remove vdeck.exe from startup)

nobody has any technical insight as to how winamp drives it's audio that could cause a codec audio deck to go nuts?

Hi GenesisAria,

I suggest you give the exclusive mode of the Maiko output plug-in (link below) a try.

http://maiko.elementfx.com/

Instructions for setting up exclusive mode, linked below.

A flow chart showing how Maiko bypasses Windows processing and works directly with the sound device driver and hardware, linked below. Scroll to end of page.

If you need info on how to setup Windows for exclusive mode, link below.

Maiko didn't work, and it caused other issues with my audio until i closed everything off and worked from the bottom up. (it cut out audio in other applications, and still had the cpu issue)

Sorry Maiko did not help. I suggested it because it's exclusive mode cuts off audio from everything else and can send the Winamp decoded source data direct to the sound device driver, as described in the links. It's shared mode allows audio from everything, but it also sends the source sound data to Windows for further processing before it is output to the sound device driver. My hope was that the exclusive mode's direct transfer would reduce the CPU usage.

I notice from your One for Nunz report in your 1st post that the Windows 7 service pack may not be installed. It may make no difference, but its usually a good idea to keep the OS updated with any service packs and the recommended (and any applicable optional) monthly updates. I don't remember if the service pack has updates for the OS sound subsystem. You can check on the Microsoft website.

In any event, I hope you find a solution.

Help

If your System is lagging then the first step is to scan for viruses and I am sure you have done it. So, now I would suggest you is to Disable P2P Share and check for the problems.
