Winamp Book Club

The purpose of the Winamp Book Club is to encourage reading. A book will be selected and every member will have a certain amount of time to finish the book; then after the time has elapsed members can post there feelings and critiques of the text. Hopefully this will lead to intelligent converstaion and maybe even some literary (albeit, intellectual) flaming.

The first selection is Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" (1932).
Available at all local libraries & book stores-
if you're really cheap and/or lazy--> RIGHT HERE

The book is antethetic to "1984" in that instead of a totalitarian state the book "Brave New World" inhabits a utopian society. The functions, infrastructure, and everyday minutiae is recorded with great attention to detail- anyone a fan to science-fiction will surely enjoy this piece of literature.

So join me in reading/re-reading, Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World".
Every one has two weeks to read it- on the 20th of this month, I will bump this thread and we can hold discussions then.

Feel free to comment on the idea, but please do wait until the given date to comment on the book.

Thanks and good reading all.

Haha. Anyways, i think its a good idea, at least it will give us book readers something to talk about once in awhile. And Boplicity, thanks for the link, you know how to make lazy people happy.

Your intentions are noble, and I admire you for that, but I will not participate, because when I read, I read according to my own schedule. Sorry

i've been meaning to read that book for a while, and i'd love to participate in this, but i have far too much stuff to do right now. I don't have time to read yet another book. Too many essays, too little time

I think you should hold this ove summer bop - when everyone's "Reading time" is free to read things of their choosing rather than the school's.

I have an idea! Why dont we discuss two chapters each day, the first two on the first day, the next two the following day, and so on.^-^

I would like to hear more feedback about the idea- if there is a huge number of people that are not going to be able to participate perhaps we can hold off until summer (as Xerxes suggested). As far as discussing a few chapters as we move along- I know personally it wouldn't work for me, sometimes I don't read anything, other times I read in great chunks. The period to read the book is set to allow people to read at their own pace within the alloted time.

If it's at all possible, could a mod please create a poll for me:
title:
Should the Book Club Continue Now or Wait until Summer?
a) NOW
b) SUMMER

-thanks

Nice one Bop. I 'think' I will join in if freelance projects don't coincide with fulltime work along with daily duties and and and..
but I like the idea. what I like more is taking in consideration the cheap and the lazy, who are a very important part of our society. I wonder if it's all made of them, starting with me
I will try to be on time...

PS: why not playing it to the max and compassionate with the C&L (cheap and lazy, ala Command & Conquer) and print the book out and send a copy to each member through express DHL..
