PWEI...

My first electronic album. I went with my instincts, it was a damned good choice.

Dream Theater - Scenes From a Memory, is the album that got me into Progressive Metal years ago.

I guess this changed me musically-wise only.

Lateralus, the second I put it in the CD player, my life changed. I was no longer in the filth of other rock bands, I realized a light, Tool.
Sure I knew of amazing bands like Rage agsint the machine. And the Battle for LA album really changed my musical tasts and politial thinking.
But no-where to the extent that Tool has lead me to.
Yes, it is a newer album, I am a younger person, and it hit me at the perfect time in my life, I was younger, niave, and lost. Sure that didnt help too much, but it was a push in the "right" direction.

1987 - The year of Rick Astley. But also this:

If you don't have the double CD in your house, you just have no taste (official).

It means a lot to me and my boyfriend. It was played at his father's funeral and while listening to it together we had some of the best experiences - we just held each other, knowing that the other is there and there is no need for words...

Also Pink Floyd - the Wall, it gives me a different feeling each time I listen to it and will always remind me of my boyfriend nd the great years we have together no matter what will happen in the future.

And also the song "Metallica - Nothing else matters" because it'll always reming me of old friendships breaking because of drugs and the real world coming into your life while you realize that you lost a lot of your naive outlook on the world. I still cannot listen to that song without fighting the tears.

Speaking of which, it's hard to admit the germans are making better music than us.

Just a basic timeline of albums that altered my musical tastes throughout the years.

Discovered in: 1991

Queen "A Night at the Opera"
Launched a powerful Queen obsession that lasted for a few years.

Discovered in: 1994

They Might Be Giants "Lincoln"
The They Might Be Giants Obsession overlapped Queen for a bit.

Discovered in: 1995

The Smashing Pumpkins "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness"
This killed both previous obsessions, and put me on the path of alternative rock. This album probably did change my life in some way, I was a moody turd.

Discovered in: 1999

"Euphoria vol.2 'Deeper'" mixed by Red Jerry
LEd me down the path of electronica, an obsession I haven't been able to kick yet. This stuff changed me for sure, I'm really easy going, and it takes a lot to really get me pissed off about anything. The movie fight club probably had something to do with that as well.

Unfortunately I don't have pictures, but these ones got me into music:

Electric Light Orchestra - Time
Capital Gold
(A collection of 1960's classic rock tunes)

This one changed my outlook on rap at first:

Eminem - The Eminem Show

And this one got me hooked period:

Adam And The Ants - AntBox (This is the definitive works on Adam And The Ants, it has all their hits plus a load of unreleased demos. There's more than 60 tracks spanning 3 CDs and a full colour book outlining their history as well. Only trouble is it's not mine, it's my uncles.)

For a 16 yr old, I'd say I have a wide taste in music!

first fragile step on the path of music--> Creedence Clearwater Revival, soon to be followed by Boston, Queen, Gerry Rafferty---
little time jump here.
nowdays into ---> darkwave (camouflage, beborn beton, assemblage 23, de/vision)
and other alternative music like--> metric, ladytron, kings of convience.
and slowly converting again to more mainstream things like --> saybia, 3 doors down, r.e.m ,
also still very much into Gotic --> within temptation, epica, nightwish.

Each Thursday a new show on Celtica Radio with Darkwave music.

First off, this got me out of shitty pop and into music with actual instruments back when I was a freshman.

Metallica - Metallica

Which led to this a year later.
Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral

The next big leap was about a year ago when I found this.

The Gathering - Mandylion

And Cylob got me into
Curve - Come Clean

If you like the 80s, buy this:

Electric Light Orchestra: Out Of The Blue

Off-topic slightly
On the subject of ELO, I went to see a tribute band at my local theatre (Marina Theatre, Lowestoft), and they were bloody good. Anyone heard of Magic? They also do a Queen tribute if that jogs anybody's memories.

Oh, and my parents are going to see Elkie Brooks at the aforementioned theatre. Lucky people.

because they were the first band I ever really liked, and this album was what got me into music (this was, honestly, the first album I ever had, I wasn't at all into music before I got it) through it I got to know some of my favourite bands (like Nightwish, Lacuna Coil and Within Temptation), if it weren't for them, I'd probably be stuck listening to whatever the radio brings...

and before anyone starts yapping about how much they suck, I'm gonna say this, I don't care what others think of my taste in music, and I know that they aren't the manufactured piece of shite like alot of people like to think, they've worked really hard to get to where they are today - sorry if I sound like an insane person

They were The Doors:
