iTunes m4a files not playing in WinAmp 5.1

I'm not performing any clever operations, merely recording my CD's onto the hard disk using iTunes Apple Lossless Encoder format which writes a .m4a file to disk.

When I try to play them through WinAmp 5.1, they appear in the track listing but will not play. If multiple formats are selected, i.e. 3 .m4a files followed by an .mp3 file, the first file to play will be the mp3 file.

I have been searching through various forums but they all say it will be fixed without recourse to 3rd party plug-ins in WinAmp 5.1

What's going wrong? Has anyone else got problems with this in WinAmp 5.1? They play alright in iTunes.....

Alas, we don't support priority ALAC format.

the key is in the format. Apple Lossless Encoder. Its not surprising that apple's own format plays back in their own player. Even further, its unsurprising it doesnt play back in someone elses.

I'd recommend FLAC for all your lossless needs.

No, just WAV, AAC, AIFF, MP3 and Apple Lossless

Why not use MP3 or better aac, it makes no sense to use a lossless codec on a mp3 player. Just my 2Cent.
