SHOUTcast Transcoder 2 Beta 6

Hi All!
The SHOUTcast team is pleased to present you the latest Shoutcast Transcoder beta drop.

Download Link >> http://download.shoutcast.com/beta/s...6_02232010.zip

Release Notes :: 2/3/2010 - sc_trans drop 6 version 2 revision 39

NEW STUFF:

- A new type of event as been added to the calendaring system that allows you to relay other stations. (see calendarxml.txt for more information)

- You can now create your playlists dynamically in real time. A new playlist entry construct will allow the invocation of an external program to fetch the next playlist entry (see docs.txt section 10)

- You can change the way your metadata is displayed in clients (this comes with lots of caveats though). See the new displaymetadatapattern conf file option (docs.txt)

- In order to encode your stream in mp3, you need an MP3 license key. This is a legal requirement to comply with all broadcasting laws. You can grab the code and pay the $5 license fee here: http://shop.winamp.com/servlet/Promo...omoID.48873700

- The conf file values unlockkeyname and unlockkeycode have been added to suport the MP3 broadcasting key.

- /writeconfig command added to web API. This will force the state of sc_trans to be written to the conf file (before it was only being done with sc_trans exited. See docs.txt)

- /timeshift command added to web API. This is very experimental and was added for the "We Choose The Moon" project at AOL. It allows extremely crude time shifting of the stream. (see docs.txt)

BUG FIXES:

- Shoutcast2 protocol changed for compatibility with sc_serv2

- Network timing fudgefactor defaults are now zero for compatibility with sc_serv2

- Special files always transfered on reconnect for uvox 2.1

- Fixed problem parsing conf file, where last line was missed if there was no cr/lf at end of file

- An empty main playlist will no longer cause the application to abort. It will just sit their quietly, mumbling to itself.

- VU Meter failure after internal restart fixed

- Better error reporting for shoutcast 1 protocol

- Unix warnings about missing priority playlist directory are now debug level warnings

- DJ data should be correctly escaped now.

- In adding the relay feature it was necessary to rewrite a large portion of the metadata handling. Hopefully the metadata will now change more reliably when switching between scheduled sources.

- Update title request had bad HTTP header line (how did I get away with that for so long)?

Comments / bug reports / feedback / feature requests welcome and encouraged!

Thanks!
- Neil and the SHOUTcast team.

unlockkeyname should be exactly what you entered when you purchased the key. Case matters.

Hello, thanks for the updates (sc_trans2 and sc_serv2).

But, the sc_serv2 package doesn't come with an example conf file, and according to the docs.txt, it looks like on demand streaming is dropped? Can you verify that?

Also, what does a properly looking yp2 configuration look like between the two confs for sc_trans and sc_serv?

It would be nice to see some example .conf files to know what a proper setup looks like (specifically for serving multiple bitrates from one sc_serv from one sc_trans).

Thanks again for keeping shoutcast alive!

There is apparently a problem with the key generation in the online store. Faisal is trying to sort it out. If you've purchased a key and it's not working, please let him know (SC_Faisal)

gosh, beta software has an issue and all the numpty n00bs come out of the woodwork whining about five dollars .... sure, you can get a blow job from Eric Cartman for five dolla, but seriously ... lighten up

i.e. if beta software breaks a production environment ... STOP USING IT ... easy fix

Is it just me or are shoutcast users getting dumber?

posts is PLURAL ... I only made ONE

so that would be

"jaromanda shut up with your stupid post"

and, by convention, there should be a comma in there - I'll forgive the capital letter ...

so we end up with

"jaromanda, shut up with your stupid post"

and your first post should read

I've paid for a key that does not work

NOW it's stupid posts

kthxbai

P.S. reality check ...

1) it's FIVE dollars - less than a big mac
2) it's been a day or two since the problem was brought to light ... it's SATURDAY ... even coders have a life

Is it just me or are shoutcast users getting dumber?

Hi Developers, you surely did hard work to bring out the new beta. People now want to get it running and get stuck with that key-mishap. Aren't there a handful of keys that work - just to get those urgently waiting freaks started (until we get the right keys)? Or maybe any workaround integrating another lame encoder? Best regards Waschtrommel

Just wait! It's weekend and they don't work on Saturday/Sunday, that's normal. If they tell you that they are working on it, they do! Just wait...

It hasn't been "a day", it's been three days. Accepting money for keys that don't work, is just wrong - and not immediately providing keys that do work makes you look incompetent.

They noticed the problem on February 26, so on Friday. As I told you before, they don't work on Saturday/Sunday. So it's still one half of a day that they were able to work on it.

And if you don't know the word "Beta"...Beta CAN mean that things won't work properly! You should know that before using it again.

Your money is not lost and they are working on it. So just wait and don't cry like a little kid...

Where would they get WORKING keys if the KEY GENERATOR is faulty?

I assume, in INTERNAL testing there was probably one of the following:

• a way to circumvent the necessity for a key - I doubt that exists in any public release, or if it does, they aren't going to tell you
• some sort of "master" key that was used - they wouldn't release that info

I highly doubt this beta was released without some sort of internal testing of the new "feature". It's just that something went wrong with the public release

as chuckeh said, the issue of the key generator was disclosed at approximately 10AM 26th February (GMT) - now, I don't know where the dev member(s) responsible for the key generator are located, however, at most, they had only a single day (excluding weekends) so far to fix this issue

Patience is a virtue

Is it just me or are shoutcast users getting dumber?

you need to get out more ... the changes in beta 6 to beta 5 although important are not really going to stop your station/project from working.

Yes I agree but of a PITA but let's face it ... a weekend of doing something else but sitting in front of your PC would not kill you ...

The API docs file (api.rtf) looks like it has 2009 instead of 2010 in the history updates.

Hi guys -

First off we're very sorry for this issue with the keys. I am working with our provider / digital river to address the key issue. They need to flip the version of the keys in order to make them work. Unfortunately this is out of our control and we are working with them to address this ASAP!

I will have an update for you very soon!

Cheers
