Monkey's Audio [*ape] on Windows 7
Never had any problem with the support for .ape files on Winamp, but now that I'm on Windows 7 I've found one. I started today installing the Monkey's Audio plug-in in order to make my .ape files playable on WINAMP 5.572. The plug-in I'm trying to install is the lastest versin of the official one, "Winamp Pluging.exe" (contained into the lastest Monkey's Audio pack "MAC_406.exe" hosted on the official site).
On the installation the next message appears: code: Surprised with it, because on the O.S. I was using before (XP SP3 x86-x64) I never saw this error. I've seen that on that path, there's no "in_APE.dll", so I tried to do a download of it, pasted it on the path, and tried to do the install again. The dll "in_APE.dll" vanishes... Any ideas? thanks in advance for the support ! |

Please post a list of your installed plugins. So I can see, if the plugin was correctly installed.
Otherwise in_ape is a 3rd party plugin and not supported in these forums. For propper support you have to contact the author of the plugin. Excuse the delay Koopa.
I uninstalled the Winamp I was using and instaled the 5.581, then installed the APE official plug-in. The installation of the plug-in was quite fast, and now in_APE.dll is into the Winamp\Plugins folder, but the .ape files are still not playable. I've done the list you suggested me: Spoiler: code: Thanks for all your support Koopa. |

I know this is an ancient thread but I found my way here because of the OP's exact problem when I tried to install the APE plug-in. Others may find the following info useful:
The problem is that Windows 7 requires administration rights to write a file into C:\Program Files (x86)\Winamp\\Plugins\ I simply changed the location to install the plugin to my desktop which worked without issue, then copied the "in_ape.dll" file into C:\Program Files (x86)\Winamp\\Plugins\ while logged in as administrator. Worked fine! I also imagine that if one were to right click on "Winamp Plugin.exe" and run as administrator, that would install it directly into the Winamp plugin directory as well. |

OT kind of, but why use ape at all? i use mp3 and for lossless m4a ALAC. mp3 is universal and m4a ALAC is nearly universal. both are well supported by windows, apple/mac/ios, mp3tag, winamp, and so on.
