Low Bitrate Streams... Where are you?

I would like to know if anything is being done to provide lower bitrates (i.e. 8kbps/11khz) in the new Shoutcast DSP? We would like to enable our DJs to broadcast multiple bitrate streams, and although this is possible in the 1.8.2a version of the Shoutcast DSP plugin, the new version does not allow for bitrates lower than 24kbps. This causes major buffering for dial-up listeners and it really is a big pain. Is anyone doing anything to rectify this problem? Many inquiring minds want to know.

But does it also provide multiple Encoders and Outputs like the Shoutcast DSP 1.8.2 has? What I need to be able to do is provide an 8/11 broadcast as well as a higher bitrate broadcast from the same instance of Winamp.

Yeah, just use a DSP stacker - http://www.oddsock.org for more details.

problems with that

Hi,

thanks for info, but I tried the oddsock one, and i get sound problems (annoying bits, cant really describe...) that I didnt have with shoutcast dsp. I really need a lower bitrate and samplerate... i hope they include it in the next release !!

ta !

Speaking for my group, we need to be able to broadcast at 8 bits, 11 khz. We have dial up listeners who still buffer too much on anything higher than a 8/11 broadcast. We had a couple of listeners change their input settings for the Nullsoft MPEG encoder input, and it worked in at least one case, but using an 8/11 stream is easier than teaching every person using dial-up how to change their input encoder buffer settings.

Thanx...
