Winamp doesn't play mms:// stream

Hi,
I've a problem playing mms:// streams with Winamp.
Practically I've uninstalled Windows Media Player on my Windows XP S.O.;
Now, when I play any mms:// stream with Winamp it synchronize stream correctly, but doesn't play nothing.
As example, all the streams on the AllMusic site (http://www.allmusic.com) doesn't work.
If I play any stream in VLC it plays.

I've tried to upgrade Winamp to the latest version but nothing.

Before uninstalling Windows Media Player, mms:// streams plays perfectly in Winamp.

I've also tried to install K-Lite Codec Pack and Windows Media Codec Pack, but problem still remain.

What this can depends on?
I don't want to reinstall Windows Media Player, because I don't use it, I have never used it.

Thank you in advance.

Regards

Go to Prefs > Input plugins > in_wm.dll > config.
You should see the various flavours of mms in the right pane, if not, click the default button.

If that doesn't work then do a clean install of Winamp, making sure you select WMA support in the installer. Winamp should then download any codecs needed.

IIRC VLC has it's own internal codecs, maybe that's why it works there.

Hi ujay,
thank you for the answer.

My in_wm.dll plugin is configured correctly;
I've tried many times to do a clean install of Winamp, with all features selected, but the problem still reamins.
My Winamp can't play any mms://xxxxxxxxxx.wma stream;
I'll grant wma local audio files plays correctly.

It isn't a stream problem because the same streams works good in VLC.

So, I've a question:
Does Winamp use its own wma codec?
Can it be, Winamp need an external windows library, my S.O. hasn't got as I've uninstalled Windows Media Player?
Before uninstalling it, wma streams plays perfectly in Winamp.

As example, this stream from AllMusic doesn't plays in my Winamp, but plays in VLC:

mms://sg3.allmusic.com/000wma_64/s100/s10060/s1006078/s100607846jhao4.wma

Can you try on your Winamp?

I hope you can solve this.
I don't want to reinstall Windows Media Player.

Thank you in advance.

Yes. Winamp/in_wm.dll requires & uses the system's WMA codecs.
So if you uninstalled WMP then chances are that you no longer have any relevant system codecs available.

Try installing this Microsoft Windows Media Codecs v9.5 redistributable:
http://download.nullsoft.com/redist/wm/wmfdist95.exe

Note to anyone else reading this:
The above installer is for WinXP/2003 only. There's a separate installer for Win2k, and none available for Vista (WMP11 can't be uninstalled on Vista).

I SOLVED THIS PROBLEM
my MS Internet explorer was in OFFLINE mode (I don't use it)
Disgrace for Nullsoft! Mediaplayer classic doesn't use MS Explorer for acses media. Windows Media Player reported an error "Offline mode! Swich to online?".
When I click "online" Winamp became to play mms
Why Winamp uses MS Explorer?! May be wma codec uses it?
