Looking back at the old .plans...

Ah, those were the days.... when I first discovered winamp. I used to read the .plans every day, once I found them... It's cool to see what goes on in the lives (and minds) of developers. Sure, the whoel Nullsoft crew still do .plans now, but they aren't as frequent. Here's a little sample of the past (featuring the 1337 dark burgandy color scheme of winamp.com back in the day, in the days of 2.05) :

The site itself I think is back in the day. I loved that layout. Also when Ted took over for Biff.

No back in the day was before you could skin the EQ and Playlist. I am with you Craig although I am not old enough to remember when there was no EQ or PL or maybe I was I can't remember. All I know is I traced back when I originally used winamp and it came to be like 3 months before the intial version that only plays and mp3 with no interface at all.

I remember when Winamp was going from 1.x to 2.x. There was over a month and a half wait (which was a long wait at the time) and then it came out and their was this cool new mini browser in it!

If only i had known then how usless that thing would be

anyway... i've been using Winamp sice the mid 1.x's. Not as long as some of you, but oh well.

I would have been using it earlier since I knew about it for a while before I first tried it, but I was still using Win 3.1 at the time, so I had to use that stupid mp3 player that you couldn't seek in. Then I finally got to use my mom's Windows 95 90mhz laptop. I downloaded Sonique (not knowing anything more then it looked cool) and it wouldn't even run right! 256colors wasn't good enough for it. So I downloaded winamp and it worked great! I am so thankfull for that crappy laptop, cause if sonique had worked ok, I may have grown up to be an unknowing Sonique slave!

I remember that layout, seems like a lifetime ago! What is weirder though is that those plans seem so familiar, as if they are really recent or something. What useless information our brains keep. And just for reference, I started using Winamp around version 1.7x I think.

Yeah, I started using around 1.7, as well. And I remember "Aural Stimulation," too. Good ol' Nitraine.

I like how @ the bottom of the .plan, it talks about how they were seriously considering using something like IO for Winamp 3. I wonder if they even imagined how Winamp 3 would turn out...

Back in the day of releases every week or so.

Aww, the good ol' days .

I have had Winamp ever since version 1.45, and it rocked even back then, compared to other programs .

Heh, I even have Winamp v1.92 on my harddisk, still .

Sonique and other players (*cough*) just sucked and still suck, compared to Winamp. Winamp got low resource usage, highly customizeable, great sound, not bloated ... Ah, so many to list.

If you compare that with other audio players - Aw, go home .

Peace.

I've been using it since about 1.6 i think, a fair few years anyways. I still like that old black and red site scheme tho, BRING IT BACK!

I've been using Winamp sine 1,81 (or it might be 82 - I can't remember exactly; I know it was one of the early ones with skins at any rate).

I don't like the black and red color scheme much, I think I prefer yellow and black on white, like it is now.

From the 1,92 FAQ:

IV-2. Q: (From Wawb) If I shake Winamp around, will it answer my important life questions, like the Magic 8 Ball™?
A: Hard to foresee.

hrrm, some of you may have had to put up with my crap on the nullsoft news server WAY before all this forum stuff.

The glory days.

Of course, most people that old are dead now. I know, I killed most of them.

For those who care, I jumped on the boat when a friend emailed me version 1.4 according to the release date, thats more than 4 years ago.

Funny thing is when i look over the web archive, it all looks fairly recent. You should have seen it before all this 'Commercial' usage started.

I was around long enough to remember when most of the Winamp skins for 1.x and 2.x where actually good. Thank god for Winamp3 so far it has kept away those done in an hour skins from popping up because of it being new and complex. Too bad people like Shoggot, Bronze, and $teven aren't still around. Bronze (he made crush and some others) and most of the best seem to like to have certain things in their life always pull them away from skinning.
