Winamp 5.6 (build 3080 & 3081) crashes (force close) on startup
Winamp 5.6 (build 3080 and 3081) German
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins Language Pack: German Skin: Bento OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) with all MS Updates and Microsoft Security Essentials running Locale: German Problem: I updated Winamp (from the latest stable version before 5.6) by installing the Full version of winamp 5.6 3080. The install process went fine. Now everytime I launch Winamp it crashes. I see most of the Bento skin, except of the media library content which is all dark grey. Then a Windows 7 error dialog box pops up, telling me that Winamp has a problem and no solution could be found. When I close that error box Winamp closes as well. I can't access Winamp anymore. Installing the build version 3081 did not change that behaviour. ![]() Method of Reproduction: 1. Launch Winamp |

Win7 freezes when trying to play files which have been moved
-Winamp: 5.6 (x86) - clean install
-System specs (mobo, cpu, ram): Asus P7P55D-E, Intel Core i7 - 870, 4 GB Kit Kingston ValueRAM PC10700 DDR3 -Winamp Language Pack used: German (original Winamp language pack) -Windows OS, including Service Packs & Locale: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Build 7600, German, no SP but latest updates -Video Card, Video Card Drivers version: EVGA GeForce GTX460 SC - 768 MB, NVIDIA ForceWare 260.99 -Sound Card, Sound Card Drivers version: onboard (VIA® VT1828S), 6.0.1.7500 -DirectX version (start > run > dxdiag): DX11 -Third party plugins: none -Used skin: Winamp Media Player 11 v1.0 (third party) Method of repdroduction: 1) Add songs into Winamp (Drag & Drop or 'Open') 2) Close Winamp 3) Move or delete the tracks previsouly added to playlist 4) Start Winamp and play any of the tracks (which have been deleted but still in playlist) 5) Winamp causes Windows to crash. It hangs where you can not run any other software; if try to start task manager screen turns black after some and desktop comes back after some seconds but Windows still does not respond so only restart helps - Freeze also occurs when double clicking an .m3u file with MP3 files which are not available (for e.g. moved to other folder or located in USB drive not connected) - Problem is the same with default Winamp modern skin and Winamp default English language pack. - Tried to run Winamp with Windows 7 compatibility settings but this results in a "Guru Meditation" error [Edit -> DJ Egg] For now, the workaround is to switch off the Repeat All feature. |

i have found the solution for my case, steps as follows:
a) uninstall Winamp b) manually delete off the directory in Program Files c) run CCleaner for Registry cleanup d) perform clean installation of Winamp e) add in one by one the 3rd party plugin Now Winamp 5.6 works fine and i can even used Modern skin without crashing. Hope it lasts... good luck to the rest.. |

Hmm, which 3rd-party plugins?
We don't support any of them here. Hence why a valid bug report must confirm a clean install without ANY 3rd-party plugins. My main system is Win7 64-bit Ultimate and I don't have any problems. At a guess, it could be the dll rebaser (the "Optimizing..." process towards the end of installation) which some 3rd-party plugins are incompatible with, and therefore cause a crash on Winamp launch...? Seeing some internal reports about gen_lyrics.dll This is a 3rd-party plugin and unsupported (bug reports here are invalid). Remove it and report the problem to the plugin author. Though I'd still appreciate it if someone could provide us with a download link for said plugin. If it's the dll rebaser to blame, then I guess we really should look at excluding certain 3rd-party plugins.... |

What i meant for the 3rd party is to install one by one until you identify which one causing Winamp to crash. So you would not use that 'particular' 3rd party plugin again. For my case, i'm using Stereo Tool 5.02 which enhance the sound of Winamp even better and that's the only one i can use as the rest would crash Winamp. And now also i can use back the MMD3 skin... with all that Winamp is far awesome than before...
Thanks to Winamp crew for making the best media player.... ![]() Rocks on |

Ratings stars are broken (square boxes) in player/playlist
Winamp 5.601
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins Language Pack: Default (English) Skin: Bug occurs with all of Bento, Winamp Modern and Classic skins OS: XP 32b Locale: English (australia) Problem: (see screenshot) Ratings stars are just square boxes, rather than stars like they should be, in both the player (right click > Rating) and Playlist (right click > Rate Items). I note that in the media library the stars work in some sections (eg artist & album lists). This is a regression (if that isn't obvious). Method of Reproduction: 1. Open winamp 2. Right click on the song title in the main play window (or on the song in the playlist), click on Rating/Rate This and see what the stars look like. |

ezza: it's due to the font mapping (or not) with certain XP configurations. try going to Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Languages -> Check the options in the 'Supplemental language support' section (may require the XP cd and also a reboot) but it should then fix the unicode star appearing as a box character.

Winamp browser problem
Hi,
Some problem has solved, when i faced at the first time, but one major is not. I don't know it is mentiond or not in some bug reports, but when i connect to one radio, that is a bit slow, or just try to click a bit faster to an other one, c.a. 3-5 times after the winamp has gone (freezed), and i cannot close the winamp, just i can kill it with windows (windows 7, but i'm sure it is the same on all windows version) Could you make the browser connections in a separate thread or instance (maybe with shared memory), because the winamp is very instable for jumping between radios (5.6001 also)? Regards, |

Hello.
Even though I hoped the new version of Winamp would fix the bug, but it didn't. Ever since I've installed Win 7, I've been having trouble with the *.wmv files. It stops working after 57 seconds and winamp crashes. On the other hand, after several reboots it then works for some time, and then again starts to crash at 56, 57 seconds, exactly... There seems to be a problem with the latest Winamp not picking up embedded cover art in mp3 files. I have not yet discovered a pattern for which files, but it's only some files. And for all theese files, cover arts shows up in an older version of winamp (from last year).
Also various other software can detect cover art in them (Mediamonkey, Mp3Tag, Songbird...etc) and I have not added cover art to them in any different way. In fact, the way I batch-add cover arts to my files is proof they are all added the same way. And the files in question are not modified from before I upgraded Winamp. The only difference is the Winamp version. It also does not matter if I add the said files to the library or not. They still have no cover art. And the files have no special characters and the like. Maybe some certain id3 version bug? (my files vary heavily between id3v1, v2.3 & v2.4) XP sp3, English Latest winamp, English, only default plugins. Bento skin. |

Winamp loses mouse tracking on unusual screen resolution
I have had to use nonstandard screen resolution because of my poor eyesight, and Winamp Bento skin has lost mouse tracking. E.g. When I click on the second entry in my library it thinks I have clicked in the "Search" box which is about an inch or so above. Rebooting does not help.
Classic skin seems to be OK (how do you make it full screen?), but problem exists on Modern, Bento & Big Bento. I have only 1 third party plugin - media file organiser 2.1 -Winamp 5.601 (5.6.0.3091) - ALMOST clean install (it said there was a problem which means ripping & burning may not work properly) -Winamp Language Pack used NONE -System specs (mobo, cpu, ram) HP Pavilion m9441uk , Intel 4Core, Vista Home Premium SP2 64-bit, UK, 4Gb RAM, -Video Card, Video Card Drivers version Driver version NVIDIA GeForce GT120 driver version 8.17.11.9793 Monitor: HP w2448h set to 1680 x 1050 resolution -Sound Card, Sound Card Drivers version -DirectX version (start > run > dxdiag) DirectX 11 -Detailed step-by-step method of reproduction Click almost anywhere in skin and it does not register in right place, so scroll buttons e.g. don't work. |

Annoying Shuffle Bug
Winamp 5.601 (build 3091)
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plug-ins Skin: Classic (Maybe on others too) OS: Windows XP Pro SP3 (32-bit) Problem: Current song changes when shuffle is turned ON (Shuffle hotkey: S) Method of Reproduction: 1. Open Winamp. 2. Have musics on your playlist (Five or more is fine). 3. Make your main window visible if not already (Hotkey: ALT+W). 4. Make sure Winamp is stopped (Not paused or playing) (Stop hotkey: V). 5. Turn shuffle ON (If it is already on, then turn OFF then ON again). And current song will change. Also note that this isn't reflected on Winamp's playlist, which keeps highlighted the same song while main window's song changes. PS1: This is repeatable doing step 5 more times (Keep turning shuffle off and on). PS2: It doesn't matter if you click shuffle button or use hotkey "S". Note that in order to use non-global hotkeys, Winamp must be "selected". (Just click anywhere on it) In my opinion, just turning shuffle on should not change the current song, and I'm pretty sure that previous versions didn't showed this behavior. It's annoying sometimes. |
