3438 is the same as 5.7 Beta build 3437 except that the Winamp Cloud components from 5.7 aren't included in 5.65 We've kept the 5.64 changelog here because the in-client update flag hasn't been enabled yet. Once it is switched on, users will be able to see all the changes made since 5.63 5.64 Notes 5.64 released 21 June 2013 Re: Improved: Windows 8 filetype association compatibility The "File Types" page in Winamp Prefs has been made Win8-compatible. Associations in Win8 can now only be made via the Default Programs Control Panel in Windows. Re: Improved: Added 'Explore item folder' to context menu in playlists The installer will delete the (now-deprecated) "Find File On Disk" plugin from the Winamp Essentials Pack Re: Improved: [in_mp4] Write ratings to tags (using the "rate" atom) Requires "Save ratings to file for compatible formats (default: off)" to be checkmarked in: Prefs > Media Library > Library Options. Re: Improved: [ml_local] New 'Date Added' column (smart views adjusted accordingly) The old "Recently Added" view has now become "Recently Modified" and is available via the Presets dropdown in the "Add Smart View" dialog. The new "Recently Added" view now uses Date Added instead of Date Modified. ___________________________________________________________________________ Reporting Bugs: Please report all bugs in the Bug Reports forum! I can't post in the 5.7 beta thread, so i'll post here instead:
kind of a strange issue, might already be resolved in internal builds, idk. but I had a file I DL'd from the net, it had an embedded artwork in it. I put it in its own folder, played it with winamp, and double clicked the ticker to get the alt+3 dialog. went to the artwork tab, where it showed the artwork as embedded, and of the type "jpeg" I did a "save as" and the dialog for that said "save as type: jpeg file" and put Folder for the file name. the result was a " Folder.gif " file! why a gif? now maybe the artwork in the file really is a gif, idk, but something seems amiss here. not saying I know what should be done either. here is a link to the file: http://www.4shared.com/mp3/9SmFFaBn/...ptain_Rid.html [merged] ok, I just did this with another file, and I may be on to something... this time, winamp said it was a png. so I told it png and yet it saved as a bmp. then I told it jpeg, and it saved as a gif! I picked bmp, and it saved it as a png! so I think there is some kind of misalignment in the save as dialog, where its not picking the native format extension, and whatever you pick, it picks something else. its not random though, it always does png when I pick bmp. seems like a mapping issue. now fixed internally - was introduced in a beta build before the 5.65 release.

out of my own curiosity, was the fix pre or post my report? also, will the fix make the 'save as' dialog default to the native extension it finds embedded? bug in 5.65.
post report. not unless it's coded - as it was changed in v5.65 to remember the last selection instead of a random default (with the default set as jpeg) so i don't intend on altering that again. |

also, does it actually "convert" the file? meaning, if I find a bmp in the file, and save as a png, does winamp actually convert the image format, or does it just give the file an erroneous extension? again, i'm just curious as to the mechanics, not asking for any changes. I can live with manually picking and matching the extension. i'm following the assumption that is used in the rest of the code that most artwork is generally jpeg (so jpeg should be selected the first time the feature is used) and then making it use the last selection (so it'd generally stay as jpeg unless changed) as the filter remembering is what i personally wanted from the feature (as when i have artwork in files, i'm using a consistent format so messing with re-selecting things is not needed if i just want to dump the artwork). call it selfish but having spent a few days going over most of the code (including causing this 5.65 breakage, i wanted something for me out of it).
it was converting the file even if saving a jpeg as a jpeg. that has now been fixed after ~2hrs work to make use of the mime type so saving a jpeg as a jpeg will now dump the contents as-is. saving a jpeg or anything else into a different format will still convert to that format since that's what's being asked for (irrespective of any quality loss that can arise). |

actually it makes a lot of sense b/c now I understand the intent, and like you I would prob convert everything to jpeg as well, as long as I understood the app to be doing it correctly.
this will be a nice fix in the next release. any thought to an artwork column that sorts by image type? PENN STATE Radio or http://www.LION-Radio.org/ -- BUG #1 = Winamp skips short tracks Wish #1 = Multiple Column Sorting Wish #2 = Add TCMP/Compilation editing |

I don't think DrO implied that (converting everything). He said he only uses the same image format and did not want to have to select it each time, if it was not the same as the dialog's default. So changing the default to something else would switch it to the other (or last?) format selected for the next time the dialog was used.

it doesn't matter how / what i do for the original encoding of the artwork i use (embedded or external), how the export action and how the dialog is handled works as what i wanted and that's that.

Being on windows 8, I never found the old dialogue a problem when associating file types (nor did I have a problem associating files with winamp through there). So, that being clear, were there users having problems that this was changed or in other words, devolved? Before you could select all audio xor video files to be associated in one go. Now, you have to go to control panel and choose them one by one if you only want audio or only video. Just asking as I only use winamp for audio and find this an 'illogical' move from my perspective since I have to go one by one. Seems like it only caters to the audience that want to use winamp to play everything.

the change was made because how the old way worked is blocked by Windows 8 and so it had to be changed to the way it is now in that the final association of files to a programme is meant to be done in the way we do it and as other programmes have been doing. technically the same should be done on vista and higher but as they still work, it was left as-is.
and under all of our testing and a stream of bugs and abusive uninstall complaints, the prior mode just didn't work properly on windows 8 for most. we still can say what formats we support but the final association has to be done via the OS control panel. |

Are we talking about 5.65 or 5.7 beta?
Under 5.65 I don't see any change to the file types dialog in Winamp. At least in Win XP it seems to work the way it always did (and I personally would prefer that this would continue to work in XP also in future versions... ![]() |

the file types prefs / registration change (which appeared in v5.64) is a Windows 8+ change only. XP didn't need changes (same for Vista and Windows 7) which is why it's the same for you and will remain the same until XP dies.

@DrO Thanks for the updates to the enhancer and the Time Restore plugin. They are my most used plugins on Winamp and it's really good to see them active.
@DjEgg and the Winamp Devs- Thanks for the awesome work and looking forward to the version 5.7 |

any plug-in updates from me are basically me trying to catch up with the work / changes i've done on Winamp and applying what i've learnt / changed with the API's back into them so they should keep going without any further updates for a few more years (subject to further OS / Winamp changes).but good to know that some people are happy to see updates for the plug-ins (even if it is as i say just generally compatibility updates).
and i'd expect to see something like another 5.6x release (probably 5.66) before there's a 5.7 release which will help resolve some more newer Windows issues and general fixes / tweaks based on the feedback had since 5.65 was released (well that's what i'm aiming for with a newer 5.6x release ![]() |

5.66 is still scheduled to be the next release with 35 items currently in the main changelog but there's been a lot more little things done towards it to fix things where possible, though there's still a number areas (typically syncing) which hasn't seen any attention.
