Gracenote tools not installed?
I encounter a bug in Winamp v 5552. If I'm trying to autotag a mp3-file (autotag), there is the error "gracenote tools not installed" promping. It doesn't matter whether intalling "lite" or the "full" version.
I noticed the bug since 5541 (there everything is ok, I am using that). Why are the gracenote tools not installed properly after 5541? OS: WinXP SP3 |

The MusicID libraries aren't installed with Winamp Lite, only with the Full version.
The Gracenote CDDB libraries come with Lite though... Please attach your List Of Plugins, so we can see if the required DLL's are present or not. |

Hi
Same problem here with the 5.552 lite and windows 7 RC. Unable to auto tag files, come with "gracenote tools not installed" error. Any ideas ? Thanks |

As already explained, the Gracenote MusicID libraries aren't included in Winamp Lite, only in Winamp Full, Bundle or Pro.
For Winamp Lite, from the List of Plugins in jjacques529's post: << Summary of all dlls in the plugins\gracenote folder (*.dll) >> CDDBControlWinamp.dll (1313kb) CDDBUIWinamp.dll (1021kb) For Winamp Full (from my own personal List Of Plugins) << Summary of all dlls in the plugins\gracenote folder (*.dll) >> CDDBControlWinamp.dll (1329kb) CDDBUIWinamp.dll (1021kb) CddbMusicIDWinamp.dll (901kb) CddbPlaylist2Winamp.dll (1017kb) CddbWOManagerWinamp.dll (377kb) Cddbx1.dll (221kb) Cddbx2.dll (585kb) Cddbx3.dll (637kb) Cddbx4.dll (269kb) Cddbx5.dll (381kb) Ideally, the Auto-Tag button in the File Info dialog (Alt+3) should be greyed-out unless CddbMusicIDWinamp.dll is present. |

Hi ofsahin
You'll need to register the dll's first If running on Windows Vista or 7, then go to: Start -> Programs -> Accessories: Right click "Command Prompt" and select: Run as administrator If on Win2k/XP, then you can just start the command prompt as normal, eg. via: Start -> Run -> cmd Type the following, hitting Enter after each line (wait for the "DLL register success" message each time): regsvr32 "X:\Path\To\Winamp\Plugins\Gracenote\CddbMusicIDWinamp.dll" regsvr32 "X:\Path\To\Winamp\Plugins\Gracenote\cddbcontrolwinamp.dll" regsvr32 "X:\Path\To\Winamp\Plugins\Gracenote\cddbuiwinamp.dll" regsvr32 "X:\Path\To\Winamp\Plugins\Gracenote\CddbPlaylist2Winamp.dll" Where "X:\Path\To" is the exact path to the Winamp program folder, eg. 32-bit OS default dir: regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins\Gracenote\CddbMusicIDWinamp.dll" 64-bit OS default dir: regsvr32 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Winamp\Plugins\Gracenote\CddbMusicIDWinamp.dll" The first line/file is specifically for MusicID/Autotag The next two are for CDDB The last one is for Playlist Generator You might only need to register CddbMusicIDWinamp.dll to get Autotag to work, because afaik, the two cddb dll's should already be registered.... Or you can just create a .bat batch file in Notepad and run that instead (you'll need to run it as admin (via rt-click) under Win7/Vista) I assume you've also copied gracenote.w5s to the Winamp\System folder? (though it should already be there). For others wondering how ofsahin might have obtained the extra DLL's... Download the Full or Pro installer, open it in 7Zip (9.1x beta version or newer) and manually extract the files from [0]\Plugins\Gracenote |

gracenote.w5s was already in place.
i am using winxp. and i used these lines regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins\Gracenote\CddbMusicIDWinamp.dll" regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins\Gracenote\cddbcontrolwinamp.dll" regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins\Gracenote\cddbuiwinamp.dll" regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins\Gracenote\CddbPlaylist2Winamp.dll" it worked like a charm. THANK YOU. is it o.k if i put gracenote files here? |

Had to revive this thread. I just need the Gracenote DLL's. Seems they were lost in the migration from Win XP x86 to Win 7 x64...
Auto tag and playlist generator not working... More concerned about the auto tag. |

re-run the installer to get them back - is safer and easier to do it that way.

I have WinAmp Lite and I need to tag my mp3 files.
1. Is GraceNote the best database to use? 2. Your 2009 post states that GraceNote I need WinAmp Pro ($20.00). Is this correct as of today? I am happy to purchase WinAmp Pro if it can accurately tag my file with correct title, artist, genre, and so on. Based on this, should I upgrade? |

1. Gracenote has better results than Freedb, especially for mainstream music. But that's my personal opinion. But for more exotic stuff CDDB fails as well as other services.
2. You don't have to be a registered Pro user to use the Gracenote features (Auto Tagger, Playlist Generator or CD infos). Winamp Pro allows you to rip/transcode music into the MP3 format, it allows you to play h264 encoded MP4 video files and has no burning/ripping speed limitations. they won't work even if the link was working as per http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=377496 (i.e. Winamp no longer has access to the Gracenote system).

Winamp still exists and runs fine, though the current focus for the team is shoutcast, and there was mention that a new version of winamp will be released before the end of the year, but then again there was mention of that last year as well.
