I haven't got "Show"

Must get it in immediately.

The same thing happened to me with Fascination Street - the live version was so much better. But I do appreciate both now. I'm eager to hear Open now.

You have Show? It'd save time if I could borrow it. Paris has it's good points, I think I found it cheap on CD. 3 for £20 type thing. Those were the days (the bad days).

Paris is good for some tracks (Figurehead, At Night, Dressing Up) but some others suck (Close to Me, Lovesong).

Show is most excellent, and I have it too (the 2cd set, not the one-cd US one )

yeah same here 2 cd set... picked it up for £5.00 years ago..

a few dodgy tracks - but mainly great - not upto Entreat though.. but that makes Disintegration obsolete IMO

One thing I've never understood with Show : why are the last five tracks of the concert (To Wish Impossible Things/Primary/Why Can't I Be You ?/Boys Don't Cry/A Forest) did not make it to the cd ? heck, they had enough room. It's such a shame because the 12-minute version of a Forest they played was fantastic, with added lyrics.

Yes it was released in 1993 in VHS, LD and CDi.
Hopefully, it will be released on DVD.

I just have great foresight. CDs are already obsolete, DVDs will follow. In 5 years time I'll own a hd containing 1,000 films in dvd quality. But we've had this discussion before.

a few questions.. for Twilightseer

1) why is the 1982 album called 'Pornography' - is it likely to offend me?

2) is the trilogy dvd good? - say compare all the live Disintegration tracks on Entreat with the ones on the trilogy dvd.. I really like Entreat - am I likely to be disappointed? Overall The dvd looks very interesting - only heard about it on this thread..

I have Bloodflowers and I like it..

*tongue lolling around the floor of my mouth*

I've only heard Bloodflowers 4 times, it's the sound of a band out of ideas. But I'll listen to it again today on the way up the hill. From memory I'm not expecting much, I think there was one half-decent track.

Bloodflowers (2000) - Brief overview... haven't heard enough to instantly remember each track without the music playing in front of me..

Yeah good start... acousticy track..
1. Out of This World (Smith) - 6:43

Then a mammoth heavier track - which I really like..
2. Watching Me Fall (Smith) - 11:13

Good catchy song..
4. Maybe Someday (Smith) - 5:04

This one is superb.. "the fire is almost out"..
9. 39 (Smith) - 7:19

Good "distintigration" type track..
10. Bloodflowers (Smith) - 7:31

Be interested to see the whole of it live on this DVD I am getting..

I've upgraded my opinion of Bloodflowers, it ain't half bad:

1. Out of This World - A nice ethereal number, great riff going.
2. Watching me Fall - Definitely a mammoth (I prefer the term 'monolithic'). It's about 2 minutes too long if anything.
3. Where the Birds Always Sing - Nice acoustic track, probably my favourite.
4. Maybe Someday - Pop tune.....
5. Coming Up - Another load of acoustics, nice percussion as well.
6. The Last Day of Summer - Not much substance to this track - probably the but-end of the album
7. TBA
8. TBA
9. TBA
10. TBA

Why didn't I like it first time round? 1 - it's a summery album that was released in mid-winter. 2 - Wild Mood Swings had lowered expectations to zero. 3 - Other releases of the time were better. I realise it's a good album now.

cool.. don't like what I heard of pornography (production is dreadful.. reminds me of M25).. have to see what the live versions are like...

The live trilogy should of been - Distintigration, Wish & Bloodflowers, I reckon - thats the best of the Cure 1989 - 2000

Well you couldn't count Wild Mood Swings, even the cover's bad. Anyway, I'm not one to dwell on the bad.

What did you mean by M25 orac???

I've just realised "Out of This World" is "Pictures of You" with a riff. There's a very strong resemblance.

Hehe, I'm showing my brother this thread right now, and he was telling me that he just caught a commercial for Kodak with the song "Pictures of You" in the background. And Cylob, he's checking out "Out of This World" right now, says it sounds nothing like Pictures of you.

Bollox!!!! It is Pictures of You. My sock puppet's nodding his head in agreement. Your brother may be thrown by the My Bloody Valentine-esq riff, but a tune's a tune.

WOW ! I go to Greece for 1 week, go back and this thread ha progressed. Excellent

Orac, to answer your questions

1) http://www.ping.be/cure/stories/013/frmain.htm

Explanation by Smith himself.

2) The Trilogy DVD is technically good, musically, it's sort of confusing. The band seems focused but Cooper ruins it all on the drums although he does a better job on the Bloodflowers songs. The singing itself is not that great and the Disintegration songs were clearly better on Entreat. Apparently, many fans liked the DVD (I got flak on a French Cure board for posting my opinion), let's just say I've played it once since I bought it.

Get Besweet, its gui and the Vob input plug-in here

http://dspguru.doom9.org

Rip your dvd activating the "split by chapter options". Then, unzip all the besweet stuff to a folder, fire it up, set the encoder of your choice, open the batch mode window, drag all your vobs there, click encode, done

Get DVDDecrypter to rip the DVD

www.dvddecrypter.com

Then, in the options, you should see a "file splitting" option, in the dropdown list select "by Chapters".

My Cure days goes back to Boys don't Cry. I can recall the first time listening to the band at a school field trip in a bus. It was the perfect tape at the moment. I do agree that Kiss Me.., and Disentigration was their best. Head On the Door is there to. I always wondered what was with the constent band member change.
I would like to know more on the DVD that the Cure released. I've pretty much listened to all of the albums except some Unreleased tracks. In Orange at Paris I think that came out in the late 80's was the only time I witness the cure perform.

Hello and welcome MakSa! It's very nice to meet a fellow Cure fan.

What other British groups are you into?? I have yet to meet a forumer who's into Siouxsie, The Jesus & Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Curve, Ride, Lush, Primal Scream, any of the C86 bands that formed in 1986 (to name a few).

ShyShy has excellent taste (we love her), I assume it's in no small part to you......
