This test version of pmp_ipod v0.82 was intended just for people who are experiencing the "no music shown on ipod after eject" problem with Winamp 5,601/pmp_ipod v0.81

@misterreed
Hmm, not good :-(
This will most certainly need looking into...

So it worked okay for the first few times (or just once?) and then the crash started occuring on subsequent attempts?

@Juanus
Are you getting the same crash as misterreed?
I have Windows 7 so unfortunately, it doesnt give me good crash information. I went back to the Distro version of pmp_ipod and everything works fine! I just wanted to test the newer builds just in case something cool happens. (sometimes crashes are kinda cool, no?)

Windows 7, Winamp 5.601, latest pmp_ipod 0.82, Ipod Classic 6g 160Gb fully up to date firmware.

No problems at all. Sync, eject, whatever. FWIW.

I have the sixth gen classic also, but I have the 2007 model. Do you have the 2009 model? I wonder if there is a difference in how to write to the database.

Mine is the 2007, thick, twin platter version.

ps. Damn Apple and they're revisions. And damn them for not making a >160Gb iPod.

Yeah, mine is the 2007 version also.
Well, scratch that idea. I have no idea why it would work for you and crash for me.

and yes, DAMN APPLE!

Well, I thought it was working fine - but now I've once again reverted to version 5.58 as Winamp messes up the playlists on my iPod (choosing one song on the playlist plays another!??!) and Winamp crashes right after I've ejected my iPod. Will have to wait until a new version is available...

Hi everybody, I too started having this problem with my 6G Classic 120, but I figured out what was doing it and was able to correct it without changing any of the files.

I recently got some new music that was at 320kps, and I don't know why, but the ipod wouldn't play some of the songs on the album, even though winamp (and everything else) would. I'm running out of space on my ipod anyway, so I decided to enable the automatic transcoding on anything over 256kps.

If I transfered and album or even a whole genre using this setting, the auto transcoding would work fine and the ipod would eject normally and everything was peachy.

But when I tried to transfer my whole collection (~17000 tracks) it would go all the way through as usual (have done this many times), but Winamp crashes on eject and there was no music on the ipod. I also noticed that the auto transcoding did not work, as I had set them for AAC and there was nothing but mp3's on the ipod.

So after many itune ipod resets I realized the only thing I had changed was the forced transcoding, and it wasn't working anyway, so I turned it off and now it is syncing normally again.

However, it would be really nice if the auto transcoding feature would work, as I have no idea how many 320kps tracks I have that aren't actually working on the ipod...

I hope this gives you guys some clues.

Windows 7 Ultimate
December 9th 2010 Build of 5.601

Don't think it makes any difference, but I run Alcohol 120% and I have to have the burning feature disabled or else winamp dies everytime the sendto menu is accessed.

Well, RichSNJ, I'm glad your problem was solved. However at my end, it has nothing to do with transcoding or otherwise. Reverted to earlier version of Winamp (prior to 5.601) and everything works perfectly.

perhaps these apps code will have some clues on syncing to newer ipods:

Perhaps. I'm sure the Winamp coders are listening! In the meantime, Winamp still rocks even though on an earlier version! ;-)

Whoops, sorry MrSinatra, didn't notice this is where we were posting stuff like that

Yeah, I was looking into Songbird's deprecated iPod support which is now open sourced, found it used libgpod and then noticed in newer versions of gtkpod (built by the same people) they have Nano 5g and even 6g support.

I found this in the NEWS file for gtkpod V0.99.8:

IMPROVEMENT: Support for coverart has been improved. You may
have to select your iPod model from a list of available models
if your iPod cannot be identified automatically, as is the case
for iTunes mobile phones or the new 6th generation iPod Nanos.

This lead me to libimobiledevice which I believe gtkpod uses for newer devices. libimobiledevice also seems to have libgpod incorporated.

It sounds like libgpod may be a bit of a pain to compile on Windows, but the Songbird team did a fair amount of work and managed it, and though it's for an older version, their changesets could be handy for replicating it.

Request: A little SmartView Query Language love.

one thing no one is posting is the licences the libraries being posted use as i've a feeling some might be gpl which prevents things. and what's to say that things aren't being worked on already? the impatience some people have is somewhat saddening at times.

I agree with DrO. I'm positive the coders are on the case and will sort it all out. We just need to be patient. Winamp still rocks!

Wasn't making demands. Just posting something I saw that I thought was pretty cool and might be helpful?

P.S. Both appear to be LGPL.. is that still out of bounds for Winamp? This I do forget.

P.P.S. Ahh found it in the Musepack thread

there is no evidence whatsoever afaict that I or Osmosis were impatient, so i can only assume those comments aren't directed at us.

fyi: my wife has an ipod but i use android. regardless, my post was only to point to what may be helpful resources that they might otherwise be unaware of.

ps. i can be impatient on other issues however, i readily admit.

From Me.
iPod Classic 160gig
I had to take a day to play with it. But besides being the best Winamp Version ever, this is the best iPod implementation so far. I was able to transfer music using Winamp then I switched over to iTunes to transfer some audiobooks. Then I switched back to Winamp and everything worked swimmingly. There was no corruption in the databases on either end and everything transferred just like it should. VERY impressive. Thanks for not giving up and really trying to make this work. I know apple makes life difficult, but its good to see that the Winamp team isn't giving up on the fight!

What about iPod Smart Playlists, I find that Winamp removes them all whenever an iPod DB change is necessitated.

I'm sure at one point this was not the case, I seem to remember that this did not happen on old PC but I haven't yet rehooked it up to double check.
