ML Error while "Compacting"

Hi all,

Just after upgrading to Winamp 5.5, I now receive an error after scanning for new media files during the compacting stage. Winamp has encountered a problem, etc. in ModName: nde.dll

Now just so you know, I'm not exactly a Winamp noob even though I created my account just now. I've been all over the forums and I couldn't find anyone with the same exact problem so I decided to finally post. Usually people will have a corrupt file and once removed they can scan, I do not have this same problem.

Things I've tried:
-in_mp3 fix
-Used an mp3 scanner to find corrupt files and removed them
-Reinstalled Winamp
-Removed all extra plugins
-Cleared media library and rescanned
-Deleted the files in the media library that were listed in another thread related to nde.dll (main.dat and main.idx)
-Completely removing the ml folder, plugins folder and nde.dll and reinstalling Winamp. (after backing up the ones I had of course)

The only thing I haven't tried yet is a complete fresh install of Winamp. I figured the last step would take care of any media library problems and/or plugin problems. There must be something I'm missing.

PC Specs:
WinXP SP2
Gig of RAM
AMD Athlon 64 3800+ X2
Creative Labs X-fi Xtreme Gamer
Nvidia Geforce 7800 GTX
All latest drivers and windows updates

Thanks in advance.

What do you mean by “compacting”?

When you rescan the watch folders from the 'local media' menu in preferences. You can watch the files it is scanning through and when it is finished it says 'compacting.' This is where Winamp crashes.

So like I said, some people that had the problem could watch and see what file it crashes on and remove the bad file. I can't do that because it does get to the end of the rescan.

Please provide additional system and Winamp specs, including a List of Plugins and a HijackThis log. Instructions for posting a HjT log and plug-ins list is in the specs link.

Sure thing.

-PC or Motherboard make/model: Custom PC, Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe Motherboard
-CPU & RAM: AMD 3800+ X2, gig of RAM
-Sound card or chip: Creative Labs X-fi Xtreme Gamer
-Videocard: Nvidia GeForce 7800 GTX
-Windows OS: WinXP SP2
-DirectX version: 9.0c
-Winamp version: 5.5
-Confirmation of the Winamp installation type: Full

It doesn't allow for 2 attachments, so HijackThis is attached and the plugin list is listed below.

Another thing I noticed while gathering this info. If I close Winamp and then try to start it again without waiting like 30 seconds or so, I get another error. This time with ntdll.dll. After 30 seconds this error goes away.

Try temporarily disabling the MiniLyrics [gen_MiniLyrics.dll] plug-in. Winamp Winamp is not running, go to the Winamp\Plugins folder...
Either add .off to the end of gen_MiniLyrics.dll
-or-
Move the file to another folder.

Run Winamp and see if your are not having the issue without MiniLyrics.

That is not it or still having issues? Try the full uninstall > reinstall of (AKA clean install) of Winamp.

Otherwise, I can't see what may be causing the issue. Anyone else?

Ok, I tried again without Minilyrics, that had no effect. I did a fresh install and initially it worked. A day later, same problem.

So I did another fresh install, and now it's just going straight to the error. I used the new Beta this time as well, I'll attach the crash log.

One more thing, I still get an error when closing Winamp and restarting it too quick without waiting the 30 seconds or so, this time it also comes up with:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files\Winamp
R6025 -pure virtual function call.

This only happens with the Beta, maybe that info can help. Thanks.

Sorry, I still can't see what is causing that to happen.

Also, 5.51 beta dos not get tech support.
