Ungodly Annoyance: Media Window Panes Do Not Remember State

Winamp 5.621
Clean install, no plugin
Language Pack: English
Skin: Bento, Classic (both exhibit bug)

OS: Windows Vista x64
Locale: English US

When clicking from pane to pane in the media browser going from one pane to another (ie. from my 'Local Media/Audio' library listing to my 'Android drive' listing resets the view to the pane default (ie. the top of the alphabetically-ordered list) This is a major impediment to getting around from library to library.

Here's a use case where this issue arises, to help illustrate the problem:
I want to browse my library to transfer some music to my device but I've found some music that I'm not sure whether or not it's already on the device. I begin at the Local library with the three pane window view and browse for some music. In the top left pane I scroll and get to Nine Inch Nails. I click the name of the artist, the album listing shows up in the top right pane and I browse the listing. I decide I want to transfer The Fragile because that album is fucking awesome and I haven't listened to it in a while, but I can't remember if it's on my device. I click over to my Android drive library and browse to my Nine Inch Nails listing and confirm that I indeed don't have that album on my device for some strange reason so I click back to the Local Media/Audio library to go copy the last selected album. Much to my dismay the three-pane library listing has reset to the top of the alphabetical ordering and I have to scroll down to NIN again and then drag the album over from there to sync it to my device.

It's not a show-stopper, but I'm sure if you devs work with the library yourselves (in your off-dev time) you'll find it to be something of sufficient annoyance. I recognize that this is caused by simply not implementing any sort of 'pane-scroll-remembering' code, but I think it would be a fairly small 10 - 15 hour bugfix and would go a really long way to improving usability in the media library.

If you want I'll devote some of my time over the next little while to fixing this bug. I'd be happy to sign an NDA, download the code, and help you make this media player that I've used ever since high-school (ie. 12+ years ago) just that much better. (:

.iaui.

Every GUI click or select takes long time to accept

Winamp 5.621 (build 3173)
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Language Pack: en-us
Skin: Bug occurs with all of Bento, Winamp Modern and Classic skins

OS: Windows XP Pro + SP3 English + latest patches
Locale: Swiss German
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 @ 2.53GHz
Memory: 2GB RAM
Graphics: Intel G33/G31 Express

DirectX 9

Problem:
WinAmp GUI freezes for about 4sec on almost every click, no CPU usage detected

Method of Reproduction:
1. Starting WinAmp
2. every click takes long time
3. I tested with Help-->About, then switching Tabs
4. or during Playback pressing stop, it stops 4sec later but not always

This problem I have only on my Windows XP machine. On Winddows 7 it works fine.
Version till 5.601 worked fine on XP.

Skipping missing tracks can cause lockups

Winamp 5.621 (This bug has been reported before)

If Winamp is working through a playlist and it cannot locate the track, it will skip to the next one. A nice feature.

If the WHOLE playlist does not exist then winamp will keep skipping tracks until it hits the end of the list.

BUT if REPEAT PLAYLIST has been set, then Winamp will now skip back to the top of the playlist. And keep skipping for ever more. Non-stop. Top to bottom, top to bottom, ad infinitum.

Once this starts, there is NO way to get control back to Winamp. The skipping is so fast, the application ignores all input from mouse or keyboard. And if you are not quick, the whole computer can start to lock up as well.

The only way out of this is by using Task Manager to kill the Winamp process. OR, in really bad cases, the big OFF button on the PC is required. (Or an axe)

Yes - I hear "What idiot loads a playlist of missing tracks?" This is easy to do in many situations: files that have been deleted; or on an external drive that is turned off; or sitting on a different PC which is off. Lots of possible reasons.

Please think of adding some kind of flag to the repeat function that can help to spot when a list is being skipped and stop the skipping after the first repeat of an empty playlist.

A suggestion for the devs would be to set some kind of flag on the "repeat" function. So if Repeat is triggered, the flag is set. And then when a track is next played, the flag is cleared. So on the next repeat at the bottom of the playlist, the flag is tested for. If present - stop playlist. If not present - continue at top of playlist. Flag would need to be set each time bottom of playlist is hit.

Not quite sure how the shuffle would be handled - maybe a counter since last track played?

I hope there are enough details here to make the problem clear.

See this thread for someone else who was also suffering this month. http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?p=2792488

@dheo_f13: that downloaded track does not play in Media Player Classic either. Just ten seconds of black screen. And at only 128k it looks like it is incomplete\corrupt. (I get same crash in Winamp as you after a squeak of noise).

Unable to click on items in media library

This problem occurs when I have fonts set to 'largest' (150%) in Windows 7 Pro 32 bit. It looks like the increased font size causes the mouse coordinates to be calculated incorrectly.

The problem occurs when clicking the media library (including the panel on the left). Clicking on the top few items (including the search box) does nothing. Clicking near the middle of the list causes the search box or the top item to be selected (i.e. the mouse click registers too high up). Clicking near the bottom of the list selects the correct entry. This behaviour can vary slightly depending on what I last clicked, i.e. clicking the playlist window then clicking back into the media library allows me to select an item in the middle, but I then can't click anything else in the media library until I click another window first. I can't predict a particular pattern other then sometimes clicking another winamp window tends to increase the chances of it working next time I click.

Resetting the windows font size back to smaller (100%) seems to fix it, but I don't want to do this. I have clean installed winamp pro 5.621 and it has not fixed it. Have changed from Bento to Big Bento and Winamp Modern and made no difference. Only add-on I am aware of that I installed was flac. One for Nunz report attached. The problem still occurs regardless of whether the window is maximised or if I shrink it, the only difference being the number of entries in the library that I am unable to click...

Offset monitors cause docked toolbar to assume height of main monitor.

-Winamp 5.621 (5.6.1.3173) - clean install: Yes
-Winamp Language Pack used (if any): No
-System specs (mobo, cpu, ram): Asus P5K LGA 775, Intel E6850, 4GB Ram
-Windows OS, including Service Packs & Locale: Windows 7 32-bit Professional SP1
-Video Card, Video Card Drivers version: nVidia EVGA Geforce GTS250
-Sound Card, Sound Card Drivers version: Onboard
-DirectX version (start > run > dxdiag): DX11
-Detailed step-by-step method of reproduction:

1. Connect 2 monitors to the PC.
2. Raise the secondary monitor slightly above the primary monitor:

3. Put Winamp onto the the secondary monitor
4. Dock on Top

Expected results: Docks to the top of the main window.
Observed results: Docks at the height of the primary monitor

NOTES: This is observed in both the viewable and hidden states, as seen here:

Additionally, this was tried with both Big Bento, Bento and the Winamp Modern Playlist.
AND it seemed fine when docking on the bottom.

This is because my monitor stands aren't equal height, so I adjusted it in Windows...

Previously I apologize because you think I give a file that was corrupt.
But I also experienced the same thing with another file. But the same video format with a duration of ~ 23 Minutes (Without corrupt. Stroll stable and Normal In MPC-HC)

PC locks up between any songs that are played

Winamp 5.621 (non-Pro)
Clean install (following a full uninstall/reinstall), no 3rd party plugins or skins
Language Pack: en-us
PC locks up between and songs, or if resuming a paused/stopped song

OS: Windows 7 Enterprise x64 with SP1 installed (USA)
CPU: Intel Xeon E5440
RAM: 8GB
Sondcard: SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio
DirectX 11 Installed

Instructions (Big Bento Skin):
There's not much to instruct. If I attempt to play any songs, or one song ends and another begins, or I attempt to resume playing a paused or stopped song, my entire PC is locked up for about 30 seconds. My mouse is unresponsive, and my screen does not update. This happens outside of Winamp. For instance, if a song changes while typing something in a textbox (like this post, for instance), my keyboard is unresponsive and I no text appears in the box. Additionally, the song timer doesn't update in Winamp during this lock-up period, and the spectrum analyzer freezes as well.

I have also noticed that songs are not playing with gapless playback, and instead seem to to take 10-15 seconds to load up while this lockup is happening.

The last two versions of Winamp I used were 5.601 and 5.61. Winamp notified me of the update to 6.621, and that's when the problem began. I did a full uninstall/reinstall and the issue persisted.

Task manager seems to peak with Winamp at 25% of my CPU (however, it was mostly locked up and not refreshing as well, so Winamp may have actually gone quite a bit higher).

Now I've done a full uninstall and reinstall of 5.601 and the problem persists. What could be going on here?

Did you REALLY do a full uninstall? Did you read the uninstall instructions in the sticky.

The important thing to check is the %appdata%\winamp folder has been removed. This is where your settings are kept. Uninstallers never remove old user settings.

If you want a fresh install:
  • Uninstall Winamp from Add\Remove programs.
  • Next, open C:\Program Files\Winamp and delete the whole winamp folder.
  • Next, type %appdata% into your Win 7 search box. Now go into the roaming folder and delete the winamp folder you find in there. (Or you could backup this winamp folder before delete as these are previous settings)

(There is a more complete set of uninstall instructions in the sticky.)

Cannot access Audio in ML

I have the Winamp 5.62 Pro version. I downloaded the regular free one, and everything was fine, i followed all the steps, uploaded my music, etc. When i clicked on Playlists, i could not click on Audio to get to any of my music. nor can I import any playlists. It is like the buttons do not work when i click on them. I uninstalled and reinstalled it several times, which did not solve the problem. I finally got the Pro version and the problem is the same. However, while i was at college and on a different wireless connection, it seemed to work just fine and all the buttons were clickable. When i returned home, the same problems. I am running a Dell Studio Laptop, Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit, i5. i really love Winamp and would like this problem fixed. i have searched the web and cannot find any problem similar to this. Any help on how to solve this would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

@RoxxanneRedd: I have asked a mod to move your question to a thread on its own so we can help you out more. Once we are in a new thread, we can narrow down your problems.

When you install, what options are you selecting? And are there any things you are not selecting?

Is it only the MUSIC section on the left you cannot click on? What about Video? Or Playlists, Bookmarks, Downloads etc?

Video, Playlists, Video etc works, only thing that doesnt work in playlists is the Import and etc buttons. I click on them and nothing happens. A friend of mine has an identical computer to mine and his Winamp works perfectly at my house.

Edit file info bug

Not exactly a critical bug but here goes anyway:

Winamp 5.621 Clean install
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64 (en-gb)

Method of reproduction:
1. Make a playlist and start playing a song somewhere in the middle of the list.
2. Delete currently playing song from playlist.
3. Find currently playing song in Media Library pane.
4. View file info (Alt+3)
5. Edit meta info (ID3v2 definitely, might be other changes reproduces bug as well).
6. Press OK. Winamp now switches to playing the preceding song in the playlist, but at the same timestamp.

So to explain further, if I edit the meta info on the track that's currently being played by winamp, and I have deleted the track from my playlist while the track was playing, as soon as the meta info has been updated, winamp switches the file being played to the track now at the playlist position that the first song previously occupied. And interestingly, at the same timestamp. I've no idea what happens if you would do this at a timestamp that's larger than the track length of the track winamp switches to, but I imagine it'd be quite interesting.

@Dheo_f13: I think you have mis-read. I have not got a problem, so there is nothing for me to show you. Also I am not a film director so don't do movies.

My PC is fairly up to date: latest Flash installed; Two month old K-Lite Mega Codec Pack; Current Winamp.

Notice the lack of other people with your fault. Something is wrong with your config. Can you play that Flash file in another player? (i.e. Media Player Classic)

localised alphabetical order and Artist Index

Winamp 5.621
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Language Pack: English
Skin: Bento

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium
Locale: Czech
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz
Memory: 2GB Ram
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT
Sound: Realtek High Definition Audio
DirectX 11

Problem:
Czech alphabet has special letter „ch“, which is positioned between „h“ and „i“. While using Czech Windows, it’s not possible to organize some mp3s in Media library by Artist Index. All artist beginning with „ch“ can’t be filtered by Artist Index (“CH” is not in the Index, but they are not even inside “C” index). With no Artist Index filter selected (“All”), they are sorted between “h” and “i” (as they should be by Czech alphabetical order).

Method of Reproduction:
1. Have Czech Windows installation (my guess)
2. Have mp3 in Media Library with artist tag beginning with „ch“
3. Set the Smart view to Album Artist Index/Album Artist
4. Try to find mp3 from artist beginning with „ch“

Sorry if I misread. Strangely if this problem does not arise if I use MPC on the links that I download the video.

@Dheo_f13: The only other suggestion is to check the Preferences\Plugins\Input. Make sure you have an entry for ""Nullsoft Flash Video Decoder v1.4(h) [in_flv.dll]" as that is the part that handles flash. As well as the standard - check for obsolete plugins.

Winamp has IPv6 -> IPv4 fallback problem.

Winamp 5.621
Language: Japanese
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Skin: Big Bento

OS: Windows7 Professional SP1 64bit
Locale: Japan
CPU: AMD Phenom X4 9850 BE 2.5GHz
Memory: 6GB RAM
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5770, DirectX11
Sound: Realtek HD Audio
Network: Both IPv4(behind NAPT) and IPv6(global and NTT-NGN)

I found that Winamp has IPv6 -> IPv4 fallback problem.
When PC have broken unusable global IPv6 addess(*1), Winamp can't connect to IPv6/IPv4 dual stacked server.
*1: sometime occur in Japan (because NTT-NGN (many users in Japan use this) is broken)

Winamp is trying to connect to server's IPv6 address, and immediately rejected by TCP RST packet(NTT-NGN do this).
Winamp should try to connect to server's IPv4 address after fail. but Winamp don't do that.

I made mock environment that send TCP RST packet when connected to IPv6 address. (need IPv4 and IPv6 connection to work)
It seems that WMP, VLC, iTunes can play this url, and Winamp can't.

Skin: Bug occurs with all of Bento, Winamp Modern and Classic skins

OS: Windows 7 Professional (64-bit)
Locale: German DE

Memory: 4GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce G105M

For more information...

Problem:
Winamp crashed when i plug in my Android Phone

Method of reproduction:
1. Enable WiFi-Sync on Android Winamp
2. Start Winamp on your computer
3. Plug in your USB-Data-Cable from your Android Phone in your computer
4. Winamp crashed

Maybe the problem is a "multiconnect" with Winamp. The mobile phone is connected twice with Winamp.

Winamp 5.621 (build 3173)
Clean install, no 3rd-party skins or plugins
Also happened in 5.62

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)
Locale: English US
CPU: core duo@2.1 GHz
Memory: 3GB RAM
DirectX 11

Problem:
Winamp crashes due to RAM overconsumption when adding huge libraries with large album art.
As has been discussed in this thread http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=335960 we assume that there is a memory leak when handling libraries with album art in every single track that is 300kB and more, i.e. hi-res album art embedded per track in large libraries causes overflow and results in winamp crashing.
Current workaround is scanning in stages (manually start and stop), hence file defects were ruled out.
A video showing the increase in RAM can be found here: http://imageshack.us/clip/my-videos/841/poo.mp4

Also I attached a list of plugins etc. installed in winamp.zip

Method of Reproduction:
- Select a folder with more than 2000albums as a Watched Folder and with hi-res album art (if possible 300-1000kB per album art stored in every single file)
- Scan
- RAM will fill up and then at around 1500-2000MB RAM Winamp will crash
Attached Files
File Type: zip Winamp.zip (2.6 KB, 128 views)

MrX_1980: see http://forums.winamp.com/showpost.ph...4&postcount=68 which is already fixed, just requires new builds to be produced with the fixed version of the dll in it.
